First of all, hello!
I was wondering if my friend's super worn out Brass Goon RDA is still usable. It's never been polished and the insides are discolored and dark from old wicks and juice that's been sitting in it. I cleaned it, but it stayed the same. I'd like to add that it's Brass that is often alloyed with Zinc which is toxic at certain temperatures. I've read that people should avoid Brass in attys. I don't know how true that is.
Welcome and glad you joined. RDA's are close to foolproof. If there is no short in the coil posts, clean it and it's good to go. I vape nothing but RDA's and never had any real problems nor unsafe experiences. RDA's are, hands down, the best flavor equipment out there.

Have any coca cola? You can always leave it in a cup of it for a little while.

My only concern would be using it on a mech with a build too close to its sleeve. If the coil were to arc from it, you would definitey produce toxic vapors as the zinc in it is vaporized by electrical arcing.
Zinc toxicity is a medical condition involving an overdose on, or toxic overexposure to, zinc. Such toxicity levels have been seen to occur at ingestion of greater than 225 mg of zinc

225 mg is about 1/4 gram or 1/128 of an ounce. but still, that would have to be one hell of an arc... I think you would be more concerned with the hole in your hand at that point.

Exactly this^ If something goes wrong, I have no-one to blame but me.

I mean, while many vape shops might have employees that know what they're doing and have been in the field for a while, I've seen more with people like "yeah bro, I'm rocking a .09 in this hadaly on my nemesis with a hg2...want me to hook you up?":facepalm::facepalm:

sadly i've seen this too... the only time i ask now is if i'm speaking to the friend that owns multiple shops, not the employees unless he recommends them.
