I heard about and seen a couple guys use nail polish on their battery wrappers to paint over nicks and on top of the battery wrapper on the positive side to hold the wrapper down and keep flat.

Is this safe and has anyone heard of this?

To fix a damaged wrapper? Please don't do that.

However, recently I have heard of people using "liquid electrical tape." I googled it and watched a few videos on Youtube of people using for cars and such (not batteries); I guess that seems doable. I personally wouldn't even opt for that over a fresh wrap of real insulation, because it seems you've got to lay on the "liquid electrical tape" pretty thick and it's probably a pain in the balls at the end of the day.

Nail polish? What's next, using a sharpie?

I agree with Funk Dracula. Nail polish doesn't have the flexibility, wear resistance or the insulating properties that battery shrink wrap has and that in my opinion makes it a bad plan. It's so cheap and easy to do it right, why not do it right

Thanks everyone, I didn't think it was a great idea to begin with, just was curious if it was somewhat safe. Thanks Funk Dracula, I didn't even think about it being flammable.

My dermatologist doctor told me to use nail polish to remove any body warts or skin tags that may appear..it will harden and eventually fall off by itself..so it must be pretty good stuff..and definitely not flammable in that small amount..

For the price of a new battery, any of my questionable batteries are removed from the rotation.

I've done is several times without issue. Never if there is a problem on the side, but sometimes a sliver on the top or bottom will need repaired; usually on older batteries that will soon be replaced.

I think it's some kind of acrylic, which should do OK as far as abrasion resistance. It insulates well, and is not flammable when dry and the volatile carriers have evaporated. Fingernails incinerating the girls doesn't seem to be a problem.

Just be sure to replace the battery when possible. Don't use this method if violation of the coating will instantly cause a battery discharge or short! Just to be on the safe side.

But, it works for me.

IMO it's so easy to do this there is no reason anyone whould need to recycle a battery if the wrapper is bad, or try to MacGyver it.

Thanks, I actually seen that thread a couple weeks ago, but I can't find any battery wrappers locally, since I normally don't order much of anything online, because I mostly had horrible experiences. Which is why I was hoping that I was wrong about nail polish being unsafe to use on batteries.

It's relevant for the bottom firing mech mods otherwise the mech will be always on.

And if nail poslish is good for that, it's obviously also good to repair my pool pump bearings, or seal my bicycle tire ... because my dermatologist told me it works for body warts

The outside battery casing is negative. As edyle said, if you don't have the wrapper your bottom button mech mod will always fire unless you put the battery in upside down. Put it in upside down and when you hit the button you'll hard short the battery.

It's too bad when things don't work out. I ordered some heat shrink from FT about a year ago. Took a while to get here and I have not needed it yet, but the time is coming I think. Up to you, it's your decision ...

It works well, it does, but depending on the fit of your battery, the little bumps and inconsistencies it creates can sometimes be a nusance. There were a few times that I had to pop off my top cap and push the battery back down because it got stuck. In addition, the dried liquid would literally just come off again, so I'd have to reapply.

It is definitely handy, but I am either going to buy new batteries or just get a bunch of those shrink wrap jackets.

Good you reported back. I'd never heard of that liquid electrical tape until that guy mentioned it in your previous thread. Figured it would be more of a pain than a solution for our purposes.

Seriously though guys: the fasttech tubing is more than a lifetime supply of the stuff for a buck. Snip off a length of it and shrink it by holding a bic lighter near it. Done in under two minutes.

I re-wrap my VTC's just to change the color of them so they make my Reo SL look different. (by design you can see the battery through door and body slots, and I got tired of "sony neon green") I've got a friggin' rainbows variety of shrink tubes to choose from, and why not, it was damn cheap.
