SS cable/mesh hybrid

A guy at the local B&M suggested trying a SS cable with a SS mesh wrapper on the top of the cable as as a good wick for my AGA-T. It seems like it would be pretty basic to build but I'm a little unsure about how the mesh wrap is fixed to the cable. Is anyone familiar with this or know where to get information on it?

I found a large thread here about using the cable but after reading a couple hundred posts the thread turned to cable construction and anodizing. Mesh never was mentioned and I didn't want to read hundreds more posts.

Let me just state this, If your looking for a 'better' wick than SS Mesh; SS Cable is NOT your answer.

Now that I have got that out of the way. Short answer is just role the top half inch of the ss cable with ss mesh and oxidize and wrap your coil around the mesh.

IMO ss cable is a PITA, it doesnt wick nearly as good as SS Mesh, and if you need to cut it just forget it.

I use 3/32 ss cable in some of my gennies, and I like it. As the above poster mentioned, cutting it can be a problem. I already had a small cable cutter, which works well; but they are expensive for a good one if you have to buy one. If I remember, my cutter was about $40.
I use just enough mesh to go around the cable about 2x. It's about 9/16 inch. You just roll it around the cable, just as if you were rolling a mesh wick. It will tighten up nicely.

I have never had a problem with my SS rope/SS mesh combo's at all. They wick better than just using SS mesh by itself. I bought pre-cut SS rope from Kidney Puncher for all my gennies. I use them in my RSST and my Ikarus hybrid 2.1 clone. Taste and vapor are the best i've ever gotten out of an atty of any kind. Here are a couple pics of the RSST and Ikarus builds.

I've had success with a sleeve of ecowool over SS cable on a genny. Very simple to set up (just torch the wool for 5 seconds before cutting to size, slip it over the cable, twist a coil onto the wool, and vape away). No hot spots, no hot legs, wicks just fine, no messing with mesh.

Just a thought.
