I think you really ought to try it and see if it works for you. I think if you want to avoid nicotine it's not right to suggest using it, but if you can get a satisfactory vape using 0mg e-liquid then it would be perfect for you. There is a lot of variables to consider like mentioned above. Flavors, vg/pg blends, devices, etc all have a significant impact on the throat hit you get. I've had some 18mg e-juice that had no throat hit at all because of the flavor then I've had 18mg e-juice that had a stronger harsh throat hit because of the flavor. I have used 24mg e-liquid and it wasn't really so much the throat hit that was different but the taste of the nicotine in the mouth and how it hits your bloodstream that was different.

I run a brick and mortar vape shop and in my experience personally and with thousands of customers I find that nicotine most definitely enhances flavor and TH to a point. TH is also affected by a liquids mix (pg/vg). You've got a few variables to work with and c onsider. Are you knew to vaping? I would never recomend that a full-time smoker start on low or zero nicotine.

This and

It is said on this forum that nicotine is what mainly affects throat hit.

My experience is that I get greater throat hits with a warmer vapor. My warm vapor is created by a higher voltage battery combined with a lower resistance (ohms) cartomizer/atomizer.

Just my story. YMMV

3PAD?! Reds?! Wow! How long are you vaping? Did you start out liking throat hit?

Only a couple weeks but I'm down to less than a pack a day. I never liked throat hit that's why i smoked reds not menthols. Its not all nicotine that makes the throat hit. All my juices are 24mg but this lime is killer throat hit. None of the others were this bad.

Most people will tell you that nicotine is the main factor in throat hit.
Some people will tell you otherwise.

I have read way too many stories of folks that can't get down to zero nicotine simply because of missing throat hit.
There are a number of artificial throat hit additives that people have tried, and from all accounts none of them really work.

If people have gone to zero nicotine and found a way to get a decent throat hit, they should post it here.
I don't recall ever seeing anyone accomplish the feat, but I very well could have missed it.
:)

But the best suggestions I've ever seen are to use menthol to at least give you some kind of kick.

I've been quitting off and on for years so I haven't smoked daily in a long time. Now mainly when I'm drinking (not very often) or occasionally after watching a movie where everyone is smoking. :)

My ideal goal would to vape something that feels exactly like smoking a Peter Jackson light with no nicotine and the taste would be like a slight tobacco flavour but more caramel/vanilla.

Right now I'm vaping 18mg Mac Maurier from Flavour Crafters and the throat hit and exhale are maybe 75% like really smoking but the nicotine effects are too strong (feelin' it the next day) and the aftertaste tastes like I put a pack of analogs in a bowl of water, boiled it down and drank it.

Also my only rig is a Redds 808/carto setup.

Is what I'm after just not possible?

That right there my friend is called RY4 and there are tons of vendors carrying. We have a huge post about the vast majority of the RY4s available, you may find it interesting to check out. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...views/193327-really-big-ry4-roundup-long.html

But as for finding something that feels "exactly" like cigarettes? Not really possible as far as I have found in my time vaping.

Does nicotine affect TH? Yes. Is it the only factor? No.
The flavor being vaped can have an effect on TH. Some flavors mimic TH well, such as menthol, hot cinnamon, clove, or licorice/anise.
Vendors can also use additives to mimic TH, such as Flash from FlavourArt.
Another factor to consider is the manufacturer of the nicotine. Different nic solutions can taste different. Nic juice from one source may be smooth, whereas another may have more of a peppery bite.
Just some food for thought....

I hear ya. If I could maintain the feel at what I'm at now with 18mg nicotine with 0, that would be idea.

TH is the irritation of an already damaged area of the throat caused by smoking cigarettes. I always get it with >12mg and don't get it with <6mg. Sometimes in between 6 and 12 it may depend on warmth of vape, PG/VG ratio etc. Point is, we like it if we are really trying to 'emulate the enemy' but if we can get satisfaction from a vape without TH then so much the better.

Also I should add that I have always hated menthol cigs so can't imagine I would like vaping it.

Smoking menthol and vaping menthol are not even close. Vaping menthol gives you the same feeling as chewing mint gum or sucking on a tic-tac. It's a breath freshener in the form of vapor.
