im about 1/3 a pack a day smoker when i quit analogs and went to vaping completely.
around here in memphis, tennessee, for my marlboro southern cut, it is average about $5.00 a pack.
for ease of counting, let's say i averaged 7 cigs a day = $1.75 a day.
i vape around 2 to 3 mL per day ... i have quite a bit of variance, just depends on my mood and stress level i guess.
let's use the 3mL per day and im mainly Halo at 60 cents per mL which is $1.80 per day.
once you add equipment, i definitely spend more than i smoke.

Now that i think about this, it's probably cheaper overall if i stay with 18mg juice cuz i would prolly burn less joose.
but im actively trying to step down.
anyhow, figured vaping is still cheaper than patch and/or chantix ... gum has no chance of working.

i'll be going down the rba road soon ... so that'll reduce the overall money spent but only like after 5 years or so.
anyhow, it's not really about the money for me, it's about not being griped at by my wife cuz im stinky and she gets a headache and or dizziness from smelling my residual smoke ....
PRICELESS!

. . .once you add equipment, i definitely spend more than i smoke.

I don't know if I'd call 7 cigarettes a day smoking. When I started vaping I was going thru 2.5 PAD. When I vaped, I went thru at least 5 3.5 mL tanks on my days off. Ain't proud of what I done, just proud I don't "done it" no more. Your "smoking" amounted to about two hours for me. And I'm one that didn't think I'd ever be able to quit smoking. But. . .from my first drag off of my BLU ecig. . .I knew that I could switch off tobacco to ecig use. Good Luck to you with your step downs, and eventual quitting. Feb 6th. . .I'll anniversary 3 years no tobacco. . .one year no vaping. What did it cost me? I don't even know, but, it was cheap at twice the price. JMHO

Cheers,

My Nicquid costs me $0.19 per mL. I vape about 3-4mLs per day.

My Kanger Protank coils, which I build, cost ( on average)

$2.99/5 feet .32 gauge Kanthal
$2.99/5 feet Silica

I use about 3 inches of Kanthal and 1 inch of Silica. (12 x 5 = 60 inches total) ($2.99 divided by 60 = $0.0498/inch)

Since they're both the same price I can multiply 4 inches by $0.0498 which equals $0.1992 (20 cents)

I use about 1 coil per week, and if I vape 4 mLs (at $0.19/mL PER day = $0.76) x 7 days = $5.32 + 20 cents for the coil

GRAND TOTALLING = $5.52/week or $22.08/month or $264.96/year.

I used to smoke about 4 packs per day, but let's call it 3 and give smokes a fighting chance. I rolled my own so I paid about $2.50/pack

$7.50/day, $52.50/month, $630/year at 3 packs a day for me. Which is a gross underestimate for me.

SUMMARY:

Yes, vaping is cheaper. I spend a fraction of what I used to spend on smoking.

well, right now we are in the red but I think by about the beginning of next month we will be in the black and then after that the savings are just going to add up since we are both set up with 3 e-batteries (2 ego, 1 smart smoke pass through) each, chargers and different cartos. We have also been trying out new e-juice flavors. I like the dessert style - mostly vanilla based and then the coffee and he likes a variety but mostly java and cherry are his favorites. Once we find a e-juice supplier that we both like (looking for someone local that isn't a gas station) then that will likely go down in price too. We also got my son and his girlfriend to start trying them and they are considering quitting smoking. For now they use it when the little one is awake and they can't run outside to smoke which is still better than nothing. They have gone from a pack a day to 1/3 of a pack between them so I am happy that they are at least giving it a go. Once my ego and pass through batteries die I might consider a better but they do what I wanted and that was go get me off the stink sticks and back into the house to enjoy my daughters' company more while they are still home for me to enjoy them

I just started about a week ago, so I'm definitely in the red. So far I'm at ~$200. Honestly, though, that includes enough juice to last me a few months. I've got 40mL sitting on my desk right now with another 55mL coming in the mail (included in the $200 estimate). Assuming I can keep myself from buying more mods/misc stuff, I should pass my financial break-even point about a month from now. That's a big assumption, though...

Factor in how much better I feel, how much better I'm sleeping and no longer having to make trips to the local Walgreens to stand in line for 15 minutes to buy cigarettes, I figure it's already worth the money invested.

Started with an 808 cig alike. Moved up to a bigger (mah) cig alike. Call it a hundred bucks for hardware. Got smart and got a Provari setup (Provari, bats, charger, Vivi Nova, some clearos and tanks) call it $300.00. Some DIY juice supplies, another hundred. Rebuildable dripper and tank (IGO L & an AGA T 2). Wire from TEMCO ( $5.00/100 foot spool). Still ordering commercial juices too. Another Provari for Christmas ($160.00). Call it $800.00 but I'm pretty well set with the exception of juice!

Other then for those with extremely low smoking cost, its all a matter of choice if in the long run vaping cost more then smoking did. I warn all of those new to vaping not to expect to save a lot of money in their first 6 months. After the initial set up and finding what fits their needs best its entirely up to them if they save money or not. Obviously someone spending $400 a month on smoking has the ability to save a whole lot more then someone that spent $100 a month on smoking. ;)

I didn't start vaping to save money. I did hope to stop the rising cost of smoking caused by the ever increasing taxes imposed on cigarettes. Loved every minute of trying new toys for the first few years so I gladly spend on vaping what I'd spent on smoking. The difference between spending money on smoking and on vaping was that everything spent on smoking went up in smoke and was gone. Much of the money spent on vaping allowed me to create a large stash of vaping supplies. Now that I've lost my desire to try new vaping toys I get to sit back and enjoy my stash while only spending money on a rare vaping purchase :)

My friend welcome. Please count your devices and decide "how many people can begin e-cigws with them and get away with?" see it is cheaper. I dont even ask the price and availability of health. Yes it is cheaper. :)

Independently of health, it's just cheaper in the US. I've done the math, and vaping has saved me literally thousands of dollars, despite the fact that I've bought enough nicotine for diy to last three years. It would be more expensive if I were a hobbyist, into owning every expensive, non-cloned mod.

btw I grew up in Turkey. Is vaping cheaper there? Here in my state (Wisconsin) a pack is around $7. I know ciggies are cheaper in Turkey, and last I remember, practically every male smoked, which is not good for them :(

If you can keep vaping from becoming a hobby and wanting to try out the "latest and greatest", you can break even in a short amount of time. There is a bit more fiddling around with chargers, juices, adaptors, tanks, RDA's, mods, etc. Sort of like having a smartphone with needing to charge batteries filling tanks, changing carts, but really not bad. The health benefits are worth it by a long shot. (This is coming from an ex-twenty-plus year smoker). This forum is about the best place I've found for any info you might require.

If you can stay on a basic setup with simple equipment and just your juice it will be less than the "average" smoker pays.
However if you are not careful and especially around this forum, you can easily get infected with VHV. I would suggest staying out of the Rebuildables section, the APV section and the juice section. Those are known areas of infection.

While VHV is not deadly by any means it can stress budgets and relationships. Currently there is no known cure for VHV.

VHV - Vaping Hobbyist Virus.

It has been almost 10 months that my wife and I have been smoke free. In that time we have spent a little over one thousand dollars on vaping hardware and rebuilding supplies. We have spent another six hundred dollars on juices and DIY supplies, for a total of $1,678. At six dollars a pack we have not spent $4,810 on cigarettes. Net result we are ahead by over $3,000, and have a bunch of neat vaping stuff, as well. Of course, the health benefits are absolutely priceless. Vaping vs smoking?... Vaping is much cheaper and actually more enjoyable.
