Well...for the average person sticking to a EVOD and buying a bottle of juice every week or so, yes it is much much cheaper.

Once it turns into a hobby, like any hobby it costs money.

That's pretty much it. I guess I'm a budget vaper as I stick with the basics and never buy much more. Ego batts and carts + juice work for me. I definitely spend way less than I ever did smoking. Probably $50 per month. I was paying $50 per week smoking.

I think there could be 3 different spending types I've seen.

Budget - stick to the basics - order online and not spend too much

Hobbyist - order lots and spend lots depending on level of involvement

Casual - buy disposables at gas stations and drugstores (like blu and fin). This one baffles me as some friends I have are like this. I've shown them the ego setup and given them links to buy stuff cheap where I do, but they still just keep buying cheap small disposables that don't work too well and cost more than they should. Drives me nuts when I see people buying a battery that can't be recharged because the carto is welded on there. Seems wasteful in regards to money and how we use our resources.

For me, it's a lifestyle choice .. when I started out several years ago, I paid $125.00 for an NJOY kit and have been on The Journey .. once I settled into what hardware worked for me thanks to the many fine folks on ECF that will gladly offer advice, my current costs are maybe $25.00 a month . well under a dollar a day .. in fact, since I've not had to buy any hardware in the last several months, it's likely even less than that ..

with 6000ml of NIC base in the freezer, several good tanks and a couple hundred cartos stashed away, I'm good to go for a long, long time ..

You're forgetting one more type...

Budget Hobbyist - Build your own mods, DIY your juice, re-coil your heads and attys, build your own tanks.

My costs are extremely low, only made a couple orders in the last 6 months, both under $50, and I vape about 3-4mL a day...:vapor:

Vaping to quit smoking is certainly cheaper. Comparing vaping as a hobby to smoking is not a fair comparison. Hobbies that people are passionate about usually cost quite a bit. I have tried most things, have lots of things and want more. Ive still saved a lot of money. If I bought every pretty thing ive looked at I would def be in the red.

Is vaping cheaper than smoking? Its up to you.

Yep, that's some costly stuff, I've been vaping for 3 yrs now, started off with the crappy OTC stuff from local stores. Then graduated to an ego style battery with refillable cartos and attys, next came the innokin itaste vv vw, and many batteries in between. I now have the itaste vtr, I am well pleased with that, and will probably stick with it for a while. That being said, it was still cheaper than smoking when you factor in doctor bills that would happen with years of analogs. I was spending 1500$ a yr smoking, i spend roughly 600$ a yr vaping. It's a great alternative if you ask me. I would chill with what you have now for the next couple yrs. vape on ppl

AMDTrucking, I am envious of your collection of hardware. very, very nice.

I agree with what other people have already said. It CAN be cheaper than smoking if you just stick with a single device or two and vape for the nic and taste and dont get involved in the hobby end of it. I am one of those people that just got into it for the sake of quitting analogs. But after I accomplished that, I turned it into a full blown hobby and I am glad I did. I spend a lot of time mixing recipes and re-coiling/wicking and it brings me pleasure and relaxation. IMO you cant really put a price on that.

"Saving Money" shouldn't be the reason that people switch from smoking to vaping. Those two words just don't say enough. I prefer the words "Cancer" and "Emphysema". Those are the two words that sold me on switching. Now I can breathe better, I smell better, and I got a cool hobby out of the deal. Its like I won the lottery....

I try not to order until I am out of stock. When I first started on this forum, I wanted the "high roller" stuff. But I want something I can carry around, vape, and be happy. I don't want to worry about scuffs, scratches, and vaping wearing microfiber gloves, lol. So I go with the clones and oddball mods. I admit, I have some trial and error sitting in my "vapocalypse" bag, but not to total hundreds of dollars. So yes, vaping saved me money.

The good thing about being a smoker in NYC? The price of a pack of cigarettes is so high that you CAN become a vape hobbyist and still be in the green. I could buy a Provari this week, and still spend less then what hubby and I smoked in a week. Anytime vape mail arrives, and hubby questions what I bought, I do the math on what we spent on cigarettes per week and per month. I win.

I do that very same thing.

It's not that I'm really saving money by no longer paying 20 bucks a day for analogs...and I sure as H E double hockey sticks can't blow that much vape up anyone's ....but the money manages to always find it's own level somewhere else...certainly not in my bank account.

I do like my new Elk Skin jacket :D and my roommate really...really appreciates the new Honeywell air purifier I keep next to my computer station...where I do most of my home vaping from anyway...she's a bit sensitive about the lingering pg/vg in the air...she's only a 50/50 smoker/vapor these days...no complaints here...can't take any of it with me anyway. ;)

I've been vaping since December 8th, and I'm pretty much right at breaking even/in the black. $80 for my EVOD VV starter kit, 30MLs of juice, then I went back for 30ML of premium juice a week or 2 later. I dropped another 20 today on a Protank II and some more juice that I liked when I was in the store. Roughly $120 in, and cartons of smokes cost $38. Guess with that, I'm in the black :2cool:

Analogs here in Denver are $4-6 a pack depending on how you buy them (carton vs pack, brand), I was 1 PPD. Since then, I finished the 2 packs that were left in my carton and I've bought 1 pack. Haven't finished the pack, and I don't feel the need for an analog when I'm at home and can vape to my heart's content.
