So...Ive had my Kebo Russian 91% for a couple months, and Ive got the whole coil thing down pat. But...about a month ago I found a juice I absolutely adore. Its a 90/10 mix so VERY thick. My problem? Dry hits.

Ive tried perhaps every possible combo of wick/coil. 5/64, 7/64, long wicks, short wicks, not much cotton to lots of cotton. Also have tried everything from about 1.4ohm up to 2.2 ohm. Inevitably after 10 or so hits, dry hit. Ive been alleviating it by plugging the air hole and giving a short suck to get some juice back on the wick, and it works fine for another 10-15 hits. Im super frustrated. Ive also adjusted the airhole screw from about every position possible.

This morning I moved to a larger coil...1/8, 7 or so wraps, comes out to about 1.5ohm. About where I want it. Just enough cotton to not bunch up when pulling through, and cut so just the tail of the wick just touches the deck. Ill try this for today and see how it goes.

So. Any other suggestions? Im not ready to give up, and Im hoping moving to a larger coil might help, but any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

I also have a Russian and still have issues with the wicking for it, some times it wicks really well and other times it doesn't. I use a 50/50 blend and at times I have issues. I have tried less cotton more cotton and some times I will just say poop on it and throw whatever in it and it works. I used some Japanese cotton in it and that seemed to help it. I did have to send it back to where I got it as it kept leaking from the 510 connection so they are replacing it and crossing my fingers with the new one it doesn't do that again. I'm going to try the Japanese cotton when I get it back and hope it works good again. I'm also going to order ready wick and give that a shot.

The thing you have to remember is, all more cotton does is hold more juice, it does nothing to improve wicking capability. When you're dealing with thicker juice, you have to compensate by wicking *much* looser. If there is any sort of frictional resistance which requires you to up your force of pulling the wick through, with the thicker juice, you're going to have a bad time.

You're not over-filling the tank are you? I found that I was getting dry hits even though I had wicked it properly and this corrected my issue. It seems that over-filling creates a suction on the juice and doesn't allow it to flow freely to the channels.

Step 14: Fill the Kayfun nice and slowly until all you see is a small air pocket of space left, don't fill any further than this:

It certainly IS a possibility. I always fill properly, from the bottom fill hole. I fill to just above the window. After reading a few posts of people only filling about 3/4, I filled this morning to just below the window.

Ive taken probably 20 puffs so far today (low count, at work haha) and so far the larger coil seems to be working. We'll see how it goes through the day.

Here's hoping that that's all it was. :toast:
