Here's a comforting hug for you, ((((Vpr4me)))). :)

Your iStick may be perfectly fine--many of them are. Just be aware that it's not the most reliable battery out there. So, don't leave it on a charger unattended, don't charge overnight, use a wall adapter for charging (you don't want to fry your computer), and generally just pay attention to its behavior. This is true for any battery, BTW.

If you notice that your iStick is doing something it shouldn't be doing, like overheating or misfiring, stop using it, take your topper off, and contact your vendor and Eleaf/iSmoka and report your problems.

Let's hope you'll never have to do it. :D

I hope so. Guess I won the lottery with 2 out of 3 (could have been 3 outa 3 but I fixed one) :)

Seems to me it's probably more like 1 in 500 -- and you STILL hit the lottery, bikenstein! :D

Hey guys long time lurker but since this happened I had to post. Me and my girlfriend bought an Istick 50 watt about 3 weeks ago, and last night I plugged if up to chatge, woke up unplugged it and went dang this thing is hot. 2 mins later it goes kaboom and catches on fire. Just figured I'd post this up to warn others. Don't trust the chargee to turn off the voltage to your batteries. I'm trying to upload pics but says file is too large.

Everybody should go to the batteries forum and read about lithium batteries. All rechargeable batteries have the possibility of going up in flames, and lithiums most definitely so. I am a firm believer of never leaving any lithium batteries charging when nobody's home. Ours charge in a large Pyrex dish away from anything flammable, and never with anything connected to them. If they go bad and turn themselves on but nothing is there to be a load, it shouldn't hurt anything. If they short out as long as they're stored safely in Pyrex, or even better a charging bag, at least you shouldn't burn your house down.:-x
This also is a good indicator to buy only high-quality batteries. There are a large number of garbage clone batteries for every good battery system out there. These garbage clone things are bombs and fires just waiting to happen:w00t::-x:eek::evil:

As someone in one of these threads pointed out recently... You do know that pyrex can explode violently when overheated, right? that's why all pyrex dishes say "not for stovetop use".

I've heard about that possibility. I use a Pyrex bowl because it's not metal. I don't want anything metal in contact with the batteries or charger connectors while they're charging. I seriously doubt a battery going bad could get hot enough to shatter Pyrex. I've gotten Pyrex bowls amazingly hot accidentally without them shattering. Hi-ever, The Pyrex bowl is now resting inside of a larger rectangular metal bowl. All of my previous cautions still apply. If you look at the pics of the one that caught fire, it was resting on carpet and that is most definitely an extreme no-no. The safest thing would be for them to be charging in a large fireproof box outside, with a long extension cord keeping them completely away from any structure. That however is a little extreme:eek::evil:

Heh, yeah... I just charge mine on my kitchen counter -- if worse comes to worst, I can always just put them on the ceramic tile floor away from any rugs. I just keep my eye on them, and give them a feel now and then to make sure they're not overheating. So far so good!

I was charging one of my 18350s in my nitecore i4 one day, and it seemed to be taking an excessive amount of time without progress (the flashing light didn't change); when I felt the charger, it felt much warmer than usual, and the battery was also quite warm. I took it out and let it sit for 24 hrs, then tried charging it in my efest luc2; no problems. I'm thinking I probably shouldn't use that nitecore i4 anymore.

If it does it simply unscrew the atty. Even if it keeps tryin to fire (which it probably will) it can do no harm at that point. Their are many minor issues with some 50's but the auto fire units appear to be few and far between.

Well, personally, if one of these things was auto firing and cooking my atty, I wouldn't be attempting to unscrew the atty. Murphy, of Murphy's Law fame, since he rules the universe, would just about guarantee it would blow up in my hand during that process. It would be picked up with a leather glove and thrown outside. Thanks to this thread I now have a pair of leather gloves sitting right there by the charging station. I think that's about paranoid enough...:(:eek::evil:

No I think that one is gone to the great electron pusher box in the sky. I would also look at that battery with extreme prejudice as well.:-x:eek::evil:

Even with small danger possibilities with batteries, heads, coils, fires, etc. all of that is tiny compared to what them damn cancer sticks are going to do you IMO. Just practice "safe charging" (Ooh I like that one) Never have anything connected to the battery while charging, never leave anything charging when an adult is not home to keep an eye on them (including when you're all asleep):(, and charge in a safe place and the odds are incredibly tiny. That being said, try not to ever give Murphy an easy shot at you. :-x:eek::evil:

Glad everyone is ok. Was just looking at getting a 50 instead of a 30.

Now on Google looking up an extreme level 4 fire suit... Ooohhh found one... ouch... never mind the thing is gonna be horribly expensive... I can vape for years on that... Ha I have stock in these guys too. Maybe I had better buy some more. they should sell lots of suits to protect ourselves from all these burning batteries.:w00t::eek::evil:

At this point, no idea which one it was. It hasn't done anything strange; I think it was just that charger. Just glad I was there to supervise, or it might have become a very unpleasant day.

I wouldn't... the 30s seem quite sound, I've seen very few reports of badness happening to/with them -- but the 50s, jeez, everyday it's a new mishap with those.
