It feels like the roof of my mouth is bruised, a newbie's lament

My first post so please be forgiving of my inexperience and rambling writing style.

I tried my first ciga-like [21st Century] and couldn't stand the taste or inconsistency of experience [bad batteries and seemingly empty carto]. Did a minimum of research and tried the Halo G6 first with carto then mini tanks. Like everyone else like the Tribeca flavors. I tried all their other tobacco flavors and could only stomach the Turkish. But after 1/2 day my mouth felt burnt, not a heat burn but more like a chemical burn. I was using 18ml juice so I switched down to 12ml and that helped a bit. And I really increase my liquid/water intake as well. But still, I was not getting the vapor/TH I was seeing that the reviewers on youtube were exhibiting. G6 was ok and a get me by but I wanted to rave like the other members I read on this site about the joys of vaping but I was experiencing mouth/taste issues. Tried other RY4 products from local vape shop. Great for an hour, then chemical/taste issues.

I upgraded to a protank & itatse vv battery. So now getting the vapor & TH but the mouth/taste issues persisted. Tried Killer Juice [Cheerrywood & Dark Choc Tob.], great for 1st half hour but then sickly sweet and mouth issues after that. So I mix the Turkish with the Killer and now the taste remained ok but the roof of my mouth feels like it's bruised. I usually am using between 3.7 & 3.9 vv setting.

I hate to admit it but I feel off the wagon and went back to analogs this weekend so my mouth could heal. Today I'm trying to get by with the G6.

Was I just vaping too much? My puff count was around 400 or so a day. Please help me get back on track. I loved not smelling like smoke.

Big changes take place in side the mouth when you switch from smoking to vaping. Could be you have something similar to vapors tongue. Drinking lots of water is definitely a good thing to be doing. "falling off the wagon" is nothing to kick yourself over and is actually a pretty good idea imo since you did it to give your mouth a chance to recover. But I'm confident that your mouth and tongue and whole body will soon adapt to the transition. Just stick it out and keep researching and asking those questions.

In addition to what Fisheeboy suggested, you might want to try a higher Vegetable Glycerin (VG) ratio with your e-liquids, and maybe even 100% VG. Some people are very sensitive to Propylene Glycol (PG) and can even have an allergic reaction to it. Generally speaking, VG lends more vapor to the experience while PG carries the flavor and "throat hit" better. It can take some time to dial in a ratio that works best for you.

There is definitely an adjustment period going from smoking to vaping. It took me about a week and a half to get past it. Things like dry mouth and minor throat irritation, which did subside eventually. I didn't know how dehydrating the act of vaping was until I woke up one morning with a fairly strong headache and a little nausea; I read up on what could've caused it and then saw a multitude of suggestions about how important it is to stay hydrated.

I agree that it would be a wise decision to try some 100% VG (Max VG--trace amounts of PG exists in the flavorings :() to rule in/out a PG sensitivity. OP--The issues you describe are very, very similar to many of us that do have a PG sensitivity/allergy. I am one of those unfortunate souls. I was too stubborn to listen, so I got as bad as blistering on my gums and cold sore looking sores on my lips before I switched to VG heavy liquids.

Of course, I am not a doctor, so only a physician can make a diagnosis on an allergy. However, if you find that VG liquids used exclusively over a length of time helps, then you've got your answer.

The bad thing is, Halo (although they make an excellent juice, IMHO), doesn't disclose their VG/PG ratio. I suspect it's higher in PG, due to the thin nature of most of their liquids (ohh, and the blisters I only get when using PG for an extended period). The good news is, if PG is the culprit, there a many vendors who cater by offering custom VG ratios, and VG only vendors. Good luck to you--this CAN work for you. Cheers.

I would suspect your having a PG allergy. Find a juice in 100%VG and try that. I'm so sorry your having problems but your not alone. There are a couple of people in the Halo forum who can only vape 100% VG perhaps they can help you determine if this is your issue seeing as they have both been through this.

I suffer from the PG allergy myself. You might want to try some Bobas Bounty from Alien Visions. It is highly rated and is PG free. That is the direction I went and it solved the problem for me. Be wary as there is a different company selling a knock off of the Bobas so you want to stick with the avejuice site.

Best of luck!

OUCH, Littlemosdad - sounds painful. I had much the same experience a few days into my vaping journey. My lips, tongue and mouth felt like they were on FIRE. I talked to the juice company I was using and read a lot here on the forums. I believe I have a PG sensitivity, and it sounds like you may possibly have a problem with PG as well. Easy way to find out is to get some 100%VG juice (or plain USP glycerin from Walmart or CVS in the first aid area near the rubbing alcohol and band aids. A bottle only costs about $2.00). If you can vape the pure VG without mouth issues it will answer your question. SOME people are sensitive to the chemicals in the FLAVORINGS of the juice, and that is a harder issue to pin down, since many juices use a combination of several different flavors. More likely than not, it is a high PG that is bothering you. What was the PG level on your juice? Johnson Creek Juice makes the liquid for the Blu ecigs and they have a juice line called "Red Oak" that is PG FREE. For a few weeks I vaped nothing but their Vanda, which is a great vanilla. Once my mouth settled down I can now vape some other juices that are not pure VG as long as I don't over do it. You mentioned Killer Juice and I have gotten "max VG" from them and it has not given me any problems. Don't give up - this is an issue a lot of people deal with and there are many good juice companies that you will be able to use. Some people vape high VG because they just like it better - so more and more juice companies are adding the option to amp up the VG now. I don't have any trouble finding plenty of great flavors to try in high VG -- in fact, I believe I am becoming a juice hoarder -- it is totally doable, so don't let this bump in the road stop you!

I want to thank all of you for your encouragement and advice. Went to my local vape shop [Smoque on Dearborn in Chicago] and the girl there was so very helpful. She has had PG issues also and though their shop didn't carry Max VG she pointed me in a good direction and gave me a sample size 20/80 to tide me over. I've been vaping it for the last couple of hours and though I notice a little something it is nothing like what I was experiencing before. For now at least I feel convinced that this might be my issue.

Again ECF community Thanks

Just a quick update, I've been vaping the 20/80 PG/VG mix for 24 hrs now and just minor tongue/roof of mouth irritation, but nothing like it was previously and it's very doable/livable. I am anxiously awaiting my max VG order I place yesterday to arrive in the mail so I can try a flavors more to my liking.

That's wonderful news and I hope things continue to get better and better for you from here on:thumb:
