I will start off this story with a bit of a disclaimer. This was not intentional. I do my best to blow my vapor away from people. I also do not vape inside (with the exception of my office), but I feel that outside is free game.

Yesterday, while visiting a certain memorial site in NYC, I took a vape. I was outside, so it should be no problem, right? I realize that NYC has declared e-cigarettes to be the same as tobacco cigarettes, but I figured I would play dumb if my few vapes caused a problem. I think this problem was created by the fact that our 2nd hand vapor seems to hang in the air much longer than cigarette smoke when it is warm and humid. Anyway, I took a quick vape when I thought nobody was paying attention, dropped my MVP back in my pocket, and then exhaled a normal cloud. The breeze carried the vapor to a group of three people that were standing about 6-10 feet behind me. Almost immediately I heard a gentleman in the group make a comment. I quickly turned my head to see all of them looking at me with confusion because they saw that my hands were empty. They then walked away, with the gentleman making a statement about what a nasty habit smoking is.I just laughed to myself and went about my business. Too bad they didn't notice that it smelled like pineapple mango. That would have really confused them.

The public only knows what the news tells them. ANTZ gets more press than anyone else. If you listen to the news, no one knows what evils might be lurking in an ecig. The antifreeze hype has finally slowed down, but it's funny that no one tells the public that they are brushing their teeth with propylene glycol, rubbing it into their hair, applying it to their faces, drinking it in soft drinks, eating it in foods, and it's also in their antifreeze.

They need to know that and I usually work it into the conversation when they tell me antifreeze is in my ecig. But first, I tell them that it's in antifreeze because it's safe. The old ethylene glycol that it replaced killed animals who liked the sweet taste of antifreeze and licked it up where it dripped out of their cars onto the pavement.

I think this is Something that Many People do not stop and Consider.

Whereas Many ECF Members here Read the Very Few Available Reputable Studies about e-Cigarettes/e-Liquids. What does the General Public have? Slanted Reports from the CDC, the NY Times, and Glantz.

It amazes me how big business profit seems to trump consumer health. When McDonald's was outed for using up to 15% beef that was destined to be dog food, washing it in amonium hydroxide and then declaring it fit to eat, no one even considered a ban on McDonalds.
But now the FDA and Health Canada would rather force us to obtain nicotine through smoking (a KNOWN health risk), because ecigs 'might' be bad for us?
If you would like a source for the beef/ammonia claim do a search for Jamie Oliver McDonalds, you will find all the info you need.

So when did profits become more important than our health, by the very governments that are supposed to protect us?

Hey Don't Bag on McDonalds for Putting Out a Product that I wouldn't feed Detainees at GITMO. LOL

They are one of a Very Few who Allow Franchised Owners to make their own e-Cigarette Policies.

...

Walmart limits use to designated smoking areas; Starbucks forbids smoking of any kind within 25 feet of its stores. CVS, which doesn’t allow smoking anywhere on its corporate campuses, has a no-tolerance policy on the electronic version. McDonald’s has banned e-cigs in its company-owned restaurants, but leaves the decision up to owners at its franchises.

This is the biggest problem in the world today! Greed is rampant! All hail the mighty dollar, for nothing is more important! We bust our asses and give up so much time to chase a dream that is printed from thin air. Modern day slavery is what it is...buy buy buy all this crap you don't even need! That is, until someone tells you you need it! :tumble:

I have gotten many a strange look from people that don't know what vaping is. Also I've gotten many people that will stop me and ask about it as well. Which in my opinion is a good thing. I tell them how it has taken me away from smoking 2 packs a day and when they ask about it being safe I can only explain to them what I know. But the main thing to me is no more Butts!!:vapor:

I remember when I was young (40 years or so ago) a door to door salesman knocked on my door. I was young then and I felt bad for the guy so I let him come in and do his schpiel even though I knew I couldn't afford to buy his wares. He was so joyful that he was able to set up his display in my living room, gave me his 30 minute presentation, I told him I would love to buy it but I didn't have the money so I thanked him. Remember, in my mind, I thought I was contributing to his feeling good.

He continued to try to convince me that, bottom line, I couldn't live without what he was trying to sell me. He even said he was the son of Peter Lorre, as if that was going to make a difference. After I told him my last "thanks, but no thanks." He got very angry at me and told me in no uncertain ways that I shouldn't have made him waste his time and stormed out of my house after picking up his "toys."

So, right then and there, I made the decision to never allow a door-to-door, marketing call, or anything of that sort, to make me waste MY TIME. I still feel sorry for them because they have to sell their wares that way, but know that I'm not responsible for their poor choices.

The point of this story is that I've since followed my own need when it comes to acquiring things and not the latest hype. I do watch and do research before I buy and do check out anything new that would make my life easier, but not because someone pushes it down my throat.

Tell her she needs to quit smoking, she's smelling it on herself!? or, someone else she's close to!? but, definitely not you. Why would her opinion be more important than yours?

She doesn't smoke. I explained how my e cig worked and asked if I could use it in her house. She said it still smelled like a cigarette. Got me.

People see the vapor and INSTANTLY they think cigarette! And of course they have to show their ignorance by making some nasty smoking comment. You know, it really amazes me. People will start fake coughing and act all offended when it's not even a cigarette! But they THINK it's a cigarette, so here comes the fake cough and oh smoking stinks when we are not even smoking! Some people really lay on the drama to! I think what bothers me the most is the fake cough. Acting like we are smoking and they can't breathe. Some could win a Oscar with their drama.
