Cotton and a microcoil for the first time! Sorry, I know you're thinking "so what!" but I'm stoked!

Well I was bored, so I did 9 wraps of 28AWG kanthal round a 3mm drill bit, screwed it onto the atty, fired it, compressed it a few times and threaded a strip of a cotton ball into it. Came out at 1.9ohms so the next time I'll use less wraps.

Oh my, that coil looks a mess. When I compressed it, it ended up bulging to one side. I kinda sorted it out, but its still a mess. Anyway I'm sure the next one will be better. Still, when I threaded the cotton thru, the coil didn't budge. I got it sitting nice and high off the airhole, and it's an amazing vape. Wow the flavour off it is stunning, and decent clouds too.

No I'm not gonna post a photo, the coil is too embarrassing. I think it's the last time I'll need to buy silica. It's going to make rebuilding a breeze.

For next time, I'll buy organic, unbleached cotton. (I boiled the bejesus out of the Mrs's cotton wool for this experiment), and better tweezers, the ones I used were so flimsy.

What a journey though, I was on my eGo/CE4 starter kit on September. Now I'm on DIY juices on a cotton microcoil build.

3mm is a bit big for a 'micro-coil'! Go smaller - you'll get more wraps, so more surface area, so better flavour!

Smaller? Yeah it would work, more wraps you're right. It was a task threading the cotton through this one! I'll give it a go

I just started too. On my 4th coil now and it looks 100% better than my first attempt and only took 30 minutes instead of an hour, lol. Practice make perfect.

3 mm is pretty close to an 1/8" drill bit. Diameter of a micro coil is 1/16" or closer to 1.6 mm. Try 8 wraps of 28 around a 2 mm bit.

check out a local dollar store for a 1/16 drill bit in a set.

Congrats! It's always fun (and rewarding) to discover something that works good for you.

If you can, try using 30ga for a micro. 9 wraps of 30ga around a 1/16" bit gives me 1.7 ohms (on a PT2 coil).

As to the cotton, I use cooking twine and thread it into the coil using a bead threading needle. The twine has 8 strands and I use 3 (doubled over makes 6) in the coil and 4 (doubled to 8) for the flavor wicks. It wicks and vapes great and never a leak or gurgle.

I too love my cotton... But not the micro coils... Im more into nano coils... But try a cotton bed/cloud or even a cotton wrapped microcoil... Those give of some nice flavor

Cotton is the way forward. It's amazing the difference it makes in anything from a Kayfun to a Nova.

As others have said, try a smaller coil. I've found my sweet spot now - it's a 1.0mm nano using 30g kanthal - amazing vape

If you want to step it down gradually a 2.0mm coil is a big improvement still.

Cotton has given an extra depth of flavour to all my juices. Easy to change and wicks like a beast

if only cartomizers produced the same flavor and vapor one can get from say a dragon nano coil. i love my ibtanked(s). sometimes they just don't cut it, though.
