Well, I decided to see if I could bring my sick original 510 atty back to life. It wasn't producing much vapor no matter what I did with it...

So I soaked it in alcohol for two hours, washed it in hot water, dried it with a hairdryer, and let is sit overnight.

And then dripped on it. And, law and behold, after some initial sputtering, it came back to life and is now happily producing tons of vapor.

Cool. Except for one problem: some of the paint came off...

Sort of makes me wonder how well these things are made... I mean, really, it was just alcohol and it's not like the water was boiling or anything.

Depending on the hairdryer, they can peel paint. I've used the 151 with no problem but never used hot water. Some do use boiling water. Glad it's running again though.
