Hi-

I imagine this has been asked a million times before, but I couldn't find it in a search. I have a basic Apollo setup, but the atomizers just seem too hard to puff on- I had been hoping the "drags" were like a real cigarette, but they're just not. I'm finding myself having to puff three times to get a "drag". Is there something I can do with the setup I've got, or is there a system that has a draw more like a real cigarette?

Without knowing what you bought and how you inhaled a cigarette it's hard to advise you. Did you direct lung inhale or mouth-to-lung inhale a cigarette? I use to M2L inhale a cigarette but not everyone did/does.

I no longer M2L inhale vapor (like I did a cigarette). I prefer to direct lung inhale.

What I mean is that I pretty much have to puff on the vape three times to get anything at all. Could it be that I'm filling the atomizer too full and it's taking that much to heat up the fluid?

The Kanger Esmart Starter Kit is closest to what I bought, I think.

Hi @Bill51 and welcome to the forum.

The good news is you started at the bottom rung of vape gear, or very close to it. There are literally hundreds of steps above where you are, both in quality of vapor and taste. I started on something very very similar.

The most recommended set up for newbies is the Aspire Nautilus Mini tank and an internal battery mod like the iStick 30 watt (in pic below) which is a great set up for mouth to lung vape newbies.

However.... since you are a lung hitter you may like the Kanger Subbox mini (below) or some of their other type starter kits. I would suggest looking at starter kits (some of them are pretty advanced) at some vape stores to see what could be in your budget.

I'm doing some editing here. I'm thinking a tank plus a battery equals a system (duh). So I need a tank with a better draw, or a higher-powered battery that creates vapor more easily. I'm 64 and on a fixed income, so I don't want to drop too much cash on a system like that until I know what the objective is.

The airholes on the nautilus will even be a step up for you. Honestly, I still use mine daily. You can do very smooth direct to lung with it too. It's even better on the subtanks because of the much larger air holes and the power of the system. You'll get enough on one inhale to qualify as a good hit pretty much guaranteed, even with the 1.2ohm coils.
I recommend you start with those, the 0.5ohm ones may be a bit too hot and harsh for someone who's just starting. It would have killed me.
The other good part with the subtank is it comes with a decent rebuildable deck to work with in case you ever want to try it.

Yeah, I did a little more research, and it was like "d'oh, a bigger air hole". I'm hoping I can just buy tanks with bigger air holes that fit on the Apollo batteries that I already have. Those are universal, right?

^^-- Most tanks will fit but the Subtank is wayy too much power. Nautilus, GS Air will work but not their best. Original EVOD will work perfect (or too hot) and EVOD 2/Protank 3 dual coil tanks are fine except the low ohm coil versions. Aspire K1 yes. If you are using "CE4" type atomizer, anything is an upgrade.

Some of the high power devices are actually more than a cig, massive, wide open ... more clearly a lung hit than a little paper tube.

Highly recommend the Kanger mini Subox or now mini Topbox to any new vaper. Spend the $60-65 on a setup and couple batteries and you're set. Comes with RBA head if you progress and loads of options for prebuilt coils.
