Good replies guys. Thanks.

Obviously everything I've used has been a kanthal coil. When I buy whatever mod how do I know which mode is required for while metal coil type? Ie kanthal. Titanium. Stainless nickel etc?

That's really what's been intimidating to me.

What settings are generally used for each type?

Right now I've dusted off my old istick50w and a Goliath v2 and that's what I'm using. Still anxious waiting to replace it.

My last set up was an istick 30w and various subohm tanks. Kanger subtank. Goliath. I sub g.

All were pretty good but they aren't powerful and I almost always run into wicking issues and get a burning taste on one of the atomizers in a pack. It turned me off of vaping for awhile.

Now I'd like to get the latest and greatest in terms of vapor toys to play with. We can debate the greatest all day but truthfully I have no clue what I'm doing with amps, volts, ohms. Etc

I've always been a "change the atomizer. Use it" type of vape user. Never built own coils etc. Always bought premade ones etc.

I understand now that regulated mods with external batteries powering things like the tfv8 running 0.15 Ni coils are closer to the high end of vaping performance.

Can someone show me the way so I can feel confident in placing my order and using it without fear I'm making a mistake and about to blow my head off.

Please and thank you.

(Juice wasting is no issue. I buy by the gallon and make my own flavors diy so the cost is minimal for me)

I generally build and lean towards drippers but lately I've been a TFV8 fanboi.

Do you DIY your own juice?? To be completely honest if you don't have a source of cheap juice with a TFV8 you'll cry yourself to sleep. It can put down juice like you won't believe.

Kanthal can only be used in wattage mode, while titanium and ni200 can only be used in temp control. Stainless steel 304 can be used in wattage and temp control modes, although some mods don't support ss in temp control. I like stainless steel 316l and nichrome because they have a lower resistance than kanthal, so you can wrap bigger coils and get more surface area for a lower resistance.

Mods usually display pretty clearly if their in temp mode for each wire. For example, it will show "ni200", "ss304", etc. It will also display the temperature.

This is information for instance is the Reuleaux RX2/3 off the Eciggity.com website tells you everything you need to know about what it does and supports:

  • Output Wattage: 1W - 150W (For 2 Cells) 1W - 200W (For 3 Cells)
  • Output Mode: VW, TC-Ni200, TC-Ti, TC-SS, TCR Mode
  • Temperature Range: 100°C - 315°C / 200°F - 600°F
  • VW Resistance Range: 0.1Ω - 3.5Ω
  • TC Resistance Range: 0.05Ω - 1.5Ω
  • Powered by Either 2x or 3x High Amp 18650 Batteries (Sold Separately)
* The green is what types of coils you can fire or Temp Control (TC)
* The red is how low the mod will fire in Variable Wattage Mode (VW) or TC mode

So with this information you could go and look at the various coils offered for the TFV8 and make sure they would work. so in VW it will fire a .1 ohm coil. So the tfv8 .15 ohm coils should work no problem. With the correct batteries that @Baditude referenced in the mod, your face should be safe.

Thanks. This is basically what I was looking to know. So I don't do something stupid like attempt to fire a Ni coil in vw/vv mode.

Will mods fire coils in the wrong mode? I know some automatically change modes once it detects what type of coil it is. But the others?

And ok then I'm likely to go with the TFV8. It looks like a monster. As long as I find a mod that has TC mode I should be good correct?

Any mods you guys suggest?

So far I've only found the smoketech hpriv and the Reuleaux RX 2/3 (mentioned here) interesting. Would you suggest one of those? Something else?

Ty . I'm appreciative of everyone's patience. A lot has changed in the last year with vaping

I was searching for a Sub Ohm Tank myself and I acquired a few that were serious disappointments (at least for me) until I got a Kangertech Pangu. I am using the SS316L coils at .5Ω which is the smoothest, coolest vape I ever experienced out of a Sub Ohm Tank. Top Fill and e-Liquid flow control on the PGOCC coils. Only thing I can say I am not fond of is the air flow has no adjustments and I use a vape band to restrict it. I have used this tank on my iStick TC40W all the way to my RX200S. Winner!
