I just received a new setup: a provari, and a 3ml j tank with a lr 2.0 boge carto. I'm vaping at 4.7v. The carto came prepunched with two holes. Ive noticed recently that the flavor/throat hit was not as good and the top of the carto was pretty dry. I placed 7 drops of menthol liquid (80%pg) and it was hitting good again. I've been an atty dripper for the most part and using a bottom feed mod, so I'm a noob to this. Anyways before I go carving up this carto I'd figure id get any suggestions. The draw isn't tight and the vape is ok just not great without me topping it up often. The tank itself hasn't leaked and is working flawlessly. I saw on the forum where someone punched a third hole at the top of the carto to help airflow. I'm also wondering if slotting would work better but I'm a little put off by the metal shavings. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

With your juice being 80% pg, you shouldn't need to have more holes in the carto. Did you prefill the carto before you filled the tank? It sounds like your carto is dry. Or you might have a pressure issue. Have you opened that screw on the side of your tank and let air into it? Are you getting little bubbles coming out of the carto when you vape? You should.

I don't have a side screw vent hole on the j tank but ordered one of the mom and pops mini subs that does. When I take a vape I'm not getting any bubbles so I'm thinking it's a pressure issue. The vent hole I think will do the trick hopefully for stubborn cartos that don't wick properly. I tried the condom method for filling btw

I'm using the same setup and I've found that the SR Boge 3.0's at least, tend to have the filler material packed tighter and with the 65pg I'm using, I need 3 fairly good sized holes to get good flow. They loosen up after a couple days in the tanks and then hit very nicely.
I also use a syringe to fill the carto and wiggle it around to loosen the filler material up a bit. I've been using the J-tanks this way for about 6 months and anything less than 3 holes gives me more dry hits and need topped off as you describe.

I've been using the 3.0 boges with two punched holes and do the condom fill method and it's working like a charm now. The holes are punched using the saddle valve and I turn it an additional three turns to widen the hole. No leaking or dry hits doing this. However I'm only getting about a 1.5-2 weeks off one carto before it starts tasting like cardboard. I just pop a new one on and I'm good to go :)

I realize this is a tad bit late, but there's nothing BETTER than reading a post, which EXACTLY describes your (my) problem. Glad to at least not be alone, or doing something wrong. I too recently got my Provari, and made the switch from dripping on an EGO LR atty, to Boge cartos swimming in a J-Tank. I've been stalking ECF members via PM's trying to sort this out. I've made about every n00b carto/tank mistake to this point, including leaving IN the white rubber cap that comes with the cartos ON, and jamming a drip tip ontop of it (wow, hot, sputtering mess that was), dumped numerous tank loads of juice fighting with caps, carto seals, and flood flood flooded numerous cartos as well.

I did expect there to be SOMEWHAT of a learning curve (as there was for dripping), but wow, sure am ready for the BOOM BOOM to kick in, so I can stop having issues. I found the EXACT same thing you did. J-Tank, 3.0 Boge carto super good on initial install, then shortly after, TH and flavor started to wane, leaving me wanting. Tried shaking, tipping, inverting which only had small gains. Noticed when pulling out drip tip that although the J-Tank was totally full, the top of the carto looked dry. Hmmmm, what the heck do I know about cartos ?? Not much. Topped off and wow, came right back.

The juice I had been using only CCreek House @ 50/50 mix. Not terribly thick, or dark, but it does darken as it steeps. Juice ?? Carto ?? Not filling it right ?? Air lock ?? Filled it correctly, did have air bubbles when vaping, not sure, maybe this is just how cartos are ??

Have refilled J-Tank (which never leaks but is quite hard to get cartos in/out of) with a PG load of Ecto Plasma on a fresh Boge 2.0 will see what happens.

My current setup now is a mini mom and pop tank with the side filling screw. It's super easy to fill, less mess, and the tanks are super cheap. In my previous post I stated I was getting 1.5-2 weeks off one carto but recently have noticed a bad flavor at 3-5 days. No big deal as cartos are pretty cheap, the only pita is when I completely fill a tank and then waw! Bad taste so I have to empty the tank and start over with a fresh carto. Just been using 3 omh boges at 5.3v and makes for hassle free tasty vape IMO . Recently been wanting to get into a rebuildable atty and tried the DID which was a total fail so I preordered a gg Penelope hoping its a little easier to setup vs genesis style
