@NotSoMini and anyone else who might have a concern about the electroplating on the battery door...

About a month-ish ago, I began to have some issues with the battery door, and it looked a bit like the pic you posted, NSM. I contacted JV and we went thru many email exchanges trying to figure out what the heck was going on. We also discussed the pH issue and tho it IS possible, I'm still not sure. (nor am I a diabetic)

Add to those question marked ideas, I had two other possible sources of the problem. I have NEVER, in all my keyboard years, been able to keep the lettering on my keyboards. I have no klue if it's my nails scratching away at the keys, or if it is INDEED the pH of my skin. In addition to this fingertip failing, I had also used a special micro fiber cloth to clean off the electroplating. My dear Bestie and Sleuth Extraordinaire figured out that what was so special about the micro fiber could be just the reason the plating starting getting so bad. It was an anti-static cloth. Again, very possible, but we made no absolute conclusions.

I didn't even think to mention it here because JV explained that out of the thousands of Jax they've sold all over the world, there were only about 6 or 7 of us who had this problem. I just figured I was an anomaly (and oh yeah, part of a very special group! ).

Where this led was to the idea of wrapping the mod, or minimally, the door.

Weeeeelp, who in the heck has wraps for the Jackie? NO ONE, that's who. :D So, DPL and I began the adventure of seeing what we could do about that lack. We contacted VaporSkinz, and engaged an eager and klever Miguel to create vinyls for the Jax!

I sent him my Jackie, and within a VERY short period of time, she was returned to me, along with several beautiful wraps (thank you, Bestie  )

Long-winded me will stop blabbering now. I just wanted to let all of you know that you can now get wraps from VaporSkinz for your Jax and Jackies!!! Simply pick the wrap you like, then look for Jac Series B in the drop down menu. Easy peasy. He does AMAZING work, and his clear wraps are second to none. Plus his sales are super dooper!

Your link to VaporSkinz is timely so thanks for this as well as the leg work you did with VaporSkinz. My Jac has picked up a few nicks here and there. I am going to wait to order though until Jac Vapour has the new battery cover.

I really want to make sure this doesn't fall thru the kracks. For anyone with magnet probs, I do hope you'll heed a bit of advice from someone who erred on the magnet surgery.

Marking the magnets with a Silver Sharpie is best.

ALSO, using a glue OTHER THAN super glue would be advisable, as super glue sets up so quickly that if you make a mistake, it's too bad, too sad, too late.

I used a fabric glue, but any old Elmers (general) glue would be fine. Those glues will give you time to remove the magnet if you place it incorrectly.

DPL and I discussed this issue IN DEPTH, and DPL approves this message. :)

I did go to Home Depot the other day and the different brands of super glue was overwhelming. I like your suggestion of using Elmers so am going to pick up a bottle. I like having the time to get the magnet into the slot before the glue dries. For sure with the bottom magnet I will need the time as I have not been able to get it into the slot. Changed the battery a couple of times using just the top magnet only and it has been holding without glue so far.

    In the meantime —

Well of course there is a discount, as of yesterday I have no freaking job !

    :grr:

Rooting loudly for you that something better comes along.

Edited: I too got laid off after working with a company for a long time. Five months later they called me and asked if I wanted to do contract work. Decided to give it a try as I was under no obligation. Ended up doing this for 11 years at substantial more money than when I was an employee.

I cannot begin to tell you how many times I've done the same thing. It's during that five year transition from when you remember everything to remembering nothing before you finally realize you can't remember anything so it's time to make lists, workarounds, and notes. And NEVER say I'll do it later. I've lost count of all the times I got out of the chair to get something only to forget what it was I was getting by the time I got there. Frustrating!

Not a bad idea, and the VaporSkinz will be there for the "if and when". I'm still loving the Jackie (OH!) with the total zebra skin on it, just by the way. But I too, am anxious to see what new batt cover JV brings us.

Ain't THAT the truth. Time for YOU to start a thread, Bronzed One. You could call it "I can't remember why I started this thread".

:offtopic: My lost Vape Therion DNA 75C is now is visiting Germany. My DNA will have lots of jet lag if it ever arrives in the states. I can't figure out why China would ship a package through Germany with a US destination.
Unless you pay for a specific carrier, it's whatever is cheapest on a given day.

There were zero options for shipping except free shipping. I'm talking about healthcabin.
On the first checkout page there is a dropdown with "Free Shipping, DHL, EMS, Registered Airmail, and HK UPS Express". Easy to miss when you are all excited about ordering something new. DHL @ $17.93 is generally 3-5 days from China and is very reliable if you can't wait. Registered Airmail ($10.83) is usually no faster than free shipping options.

There was no other option for shipping. Here's my reply from healthcabin.

Hello, may I have your order number please? So that I can forward to our logistic team to follow up.

For the shipping option, we are adding more shipping options now, will be online very soon. Thanks

I would have paid the extra.

Exciting news. I received a notification from track 17 saying my package was delivered. I wonder if Merkel will forward it to me.

After the VAT is applied (see today's Wall Street Journal for a related story, if you care).

I don't think I'll ever see it. How on Earth did it end up in Germany and delivered? I'll let PayPal resolve and I'll order from some US vendor since they are in stock again. Healthcabin can pay any vat. :)

@NotSoMini - My Jackie is nicked up pretty well, but that was my expectation from Jump. I'm going to let this one ride out, similar to my 5+ year old black Provi V2 ("Distressed", lol), then cover it with a glittery thing that will surely bring out my feminine side.

There is a 2nd though, which is still sitting in its absolutely beautiful box. That one will get a clear wrap before I even put a battery into it. I loved @ENAUD 's "tool not a jewel" comment, and almost all of my mods show wear. I kinda like it (nicks & scratches), but I'll keep Jackie II pristine, for as long as I'm able to do so.

    Strokes & folks. :)

I think I can top you — in addition to the nicks, I now have scotch tape holding my battery cover on at the bottom. I bought the Elmer’s glue and glued in the top magnet without any issue. I knew the bottom magnet was going to give me problems so I practiced putting the magnet in the bottom slot. After several tries it’s in. It is not glued in and I cannot get it out. I let the cover sit for a couple of hours to ensure the glue was set. I then go to put the battery cover on. No problem at the top but at the bottom the cover was flapping in the wind, would not lock in plus the lower part of the battery was visible. Really strange because everything looks fine other than the two magnets are not making contact. I decided to put it aside and then today thought I wonder if scotch tape will hold the bottom of the cover in place. Sure enough it did. If I need to replace the battery of course I need to remove and replace the scotch tape.

A few days ago I did let JV know about the magnet issue as I wanted them to be aware of it. I think it may be more widespread because they indicated they are aware of it. It appears they will have the manufacturer use a stronger epoxy whenever they make another order. JV also wanted to know if I was able to glue the magnets in. I finally responded yesterday with my experience. I received an email back indicating they will send me another Jac. Obviously I may still encounter the battery cover finish coming off as well as the magnets. I just ordered a Vapor Skinz at least to protect the cover. I would like to get a Jackie and will hold off temporarily.
