Jomotech ohm meter not working??

Ok, so, I tossed my last one because it started reading 19.5 and then OL every time I tested a coil. I refuse to believe that every single coil is the exact same error. Now, my new replacement ohm meter (same exact product) is doing the SAME THING with DIFFERENT coils, but again with every single one. What is wrong, how do I fix this? I really can't afford something better right now. Hell, I couldn't afford to replace the first one. But now I'm stuck with NO usable coils and completely unable to test any of them. I don't want to blow my face off, but I also don't want to go back to cigarettes until I can afford a different ohm meter. What would you advise?
Eta: Just had the entire tester piece fall off. What a piece of crap. New question is, what would you recommend I use to test my coils, that I can get for under $20 without having to wait for shipping? (Seriously have no coils and replacements in town are $15 for a 5pk.)

If you don't have a vape shop you can get to that carries a decent black box ohm checker, you can get a digital multimeter from any good hardware store. Here's an example from Home Depot. A DMM will also allow you to check battery voltage, which if you're using a mechanical mod is very important for battery safety and longevity.

You'll probably get a better deal if you can wait for shipping. Here's one from Amazon.

It's harder to use these than a black box tester for resistance, but unless you're making 0.20 ohm setups, it is very doable.

Best of luck with it :thumb:

The Jomotech one I got was from a vape store. But currently I don't have a battery that can handle lower resistance, so I don't need anything too great. I've heard about Home Depot having something, but I don't know what to ask or anything. Thank you for your recommendation, I'll try to get to Home Depot and check it out. (Also, I don't have a bank account or debit card for shopping online.)

Babz, if you want to try a digital multimeter you only need to make sure it can do a couple of things.

1) Resistance in the range of 0-200 ohms for atomizer builds.
The one I linked to at Amazon has the following spec for ohms;
Resistance: 200Ω/2KΩ/20KΩ/200KΩ/2MΩ +- 0.8%

2) Volts DC (as opposed to alternating current, or AC) in the range of 0-20 for checking batteries.
The one I linked to at Amazon has the following spec for volts;
DC Voltage: 200mV/2V/20V/200V +- 0.5%, 500V +- 0.8%

The one I linked to at Home Depot has the same ranges, but they don't list them on the webpage. I see them on the picture though.

There are DMMs that 'autorange', which means you simply set ohms or volts, connect the leads and the DMM figures out the correct range from the value it reads. They are more expensive though and you don't need that feature to get the job done.

Here's a video on how to use a DMM. She mainly talks about autoranging DMMs but she knows what she's doing and the difference with non-autoranging DMMs is only that you have to set the correct range yourself on the dial.

Hope this helps a bit. If you have any questions, just ask :)

So hey, I figured I'd let you know, I ended up getting an istick. The vape store nearest me didn't have anything to offer besides the same ohm meter and permission to come in and use their meter every time I build coils... Or an istick... So now I owe my lady's sister $20 for what she contributed towards it lol. But at least I got something that will work better for us, right?

I like the way you think.
