Sound like there is still some juice on the atomizer. Typically when I refill the carts I put a couple of drops on the atty. It is good to keep them moist. I don't know what else could be smoking.

BTW, don't turn on the atty too long without juice on it. You can burn it to dry it out but don't hold the button too long.

Im new to this. I have a joye510. If i take the cartridge off and turn on the atomizer it still produces smoke? WHat is this smoke?> Why is it smoking? I thought the vapor produced was the nicotine juice......is something wrong?

No, nothing is wrong. If the atty is new, its the primer fluid burning, if it's used, it's juice residue.

It should to this..... All of the nickel mesh in the base and bridge of a 510 atomizer holds a lot of fluid.. like over 5 drops worth. The supplemental wick that runs down from the bridge to the coil also holds some liquid. Pulling the cart off doesn't get rid of this. That's also why when you change flavors in your cart the actual change isn't immediate. There is a lot of juice in the actual cartridge that has to be diluted and vaped-away.

When I had an atomizer go burnt-tasting on me, I did a little experimenting with powering the atomizer without a cartridge on. There was no end to the *smoking*--like, smoke and not vapor. Half an hour later, I could power up the atty, and it would still put off a horrible, acrid, chemical smoke. Do we have an answer to what that smoke is?

Most likely it is burning the remnants of the additives in your e-liquid. And that can be all kinds of stuff. It is unlikely that it is "burning" the actual nichrome, and the supplemental wick and coil core have a very high "burning" temp. I've never really damaged them with dry burns.

I have always been able to get a coil to ultimately stop "smoking". Then I give it a good warm water rinse and blowout.... repeating that process a dozen times (only takes a minute) and then I do a final blowout and let the atty dry (I accelerate that process with my air compressor). That usually brings back the atty quite nicely.
