Yep. But Loong Totem is here now, has been here, and looks to be less expensive than the cleverly named Greencig. I haven't tried Loong Totem yet, mind you, but my future hope is to walk into my local tobacco shop once a week and buy a five-pack of atomizer-cartridge combinations for $20 that I'll use with batteries on charge at home. No reason yet why that can't happen (keep blinders on Uncle Sam or the tax on that pack will be $60!).

I definitely think this current delivery method of cartridges with fibers leaching liquid onto the steel wool needs to be eliminated. Not so much because it is inefficient at delivering enough of the solution but because I have had unpleasant experiences occurring when fibers come loose from the cartridges and begin to burn. Perhaps something like the device used to dispense water to small rodents. You know, the tube with the metal ball that allows liquid to escape when pressed. Maybe puffing on the e-cig could pull the cartridge itself closer to the steel wool, depressing the ball and releasing some liquid. Just brainstorming here.

long totem v9 got bad reviews when released...that was in december,so maybe they released an improved version since-if they have, theres no mention of it.maybe the next generation of these combination atomiser/cartridge devices will be more practical, and the production quality improved.i hope so,and i hope the price comes down too,cos i like the concept.

yeah, that would be good.some kind of innovation to make it more convenient and effective for us at the moment anyway.i agree with TB tho,i think that in order to make e-smoking popular and widely accepted by the masses,it has to become as easy and convenient as normal smoking, and much less expensive than it as at present.will joe public go to the hassle of buying liquid and refilling devices and so on like we would?hmmm,i dont know...we live in a convenience crazy world..disposable may be the only way in the short term.people are much more aware of green issues these days as you say,but lots of products we use are bad for the environment-and we still keep using them..so who knows-hopefully some compromise can be reached,a balance between green and convenience...i just dont think we are gonna be able to keep this product as low profile as it is for very much longer,in my country anyway.as the devices evolve, the more reliable, effective and easy to use they become, the more popular theyll potentially become, and easier to market-providing they are affordable.we havnt really surfaced in the governmental or public consciousness yet,but we will sooner or later.if it becomes popular will it stand a better chance of surviving?will it even get a chance to become popular?who can say.

Well, I could imagine buying small 'liquid-container-fillers' like buying cartridges now, if it has to be super-easy. Something along the line of how we used to fill our ink-pens: small plastic cartridge - push it into a designated space, punching it open while doing so. And a 'refillable from big bottle' space at the same time (or different choice of pen with that method if neccessary).
Would at least only leave us with a mountain of cheap, probably re-usable, uni-material (simple plastic).
But just my thoughts of course :)

My thoughts are just that, too, Katink. I just think the masses will embrace e-cigs only when they're as easy and convenient as Big Tobacco's cigs. Today, e-smokers are like roll-your-own enthusiasts. There's a market for us, but it's hardly the "mass" one. In order to crack that market, this practice must be much easier than it is now. Fred the Banker isn't going to sit home each night and inject itty-bitty cartridges with liquid squirted from a hypodermic needle.

And it's the atomizers, it seems to me, that are the weak link. They fail after relatively short use. They're ridiculously simple in construction, so there's no reason they can't be coupled with liquid content and sold as a single unit, for a price near commercial cigarettes.

Just thoughts. I'm a pipe smoker, so I'm used to fiddling with my smoking device. This is not a personal objection, you see. I just think that in order to take off, e-smoking must become buy-use-dispose. If the environment were a priority for most consumers, we'd all carry little camping kits of utensils on our belts when we travel to McDonald's for a burger and fries. But we don't, do we? We want use-once-and-dispose paper/plastic convenience.

I dunno how easy they are to make TB. Looks like there is some metallurgical wizardry in the mix at he least. Worst case scenario is that disposable e-cigs would be "unsafe" because they would be inferior to current models. Corners would be cut, safety features dropped, and a public outcry would ensue as people ODed on nicotine or the devices shorted or something.

This is where you and I diverge a little on the issue. i am one of the hand roll guys. While I agree that current models are unwieldy, I don't agree that disposable e-cigs are the answer. I'd rather they just made the cartridges one use, shorter life span for a solid hit. The machine itself? it needs to be sturdy under both physical inspection and non-smoker ridicule. throwaway e-cigs...aren't. My opinion.

My experiences of drip-smoking have led me to the belief that a device able to provide larger quantities of nicotine solution to the atomizer would produce a denser, more authentic experience.

Clearly there would have to be a radical re-design to enable this. Currently, the liquid is delivered via the wadding in the cartridge, and the flow into the atomizer is limited by the physics inherent in the design. Additionally, the liquid would have to be made weaker, given the larger quantities being delivered.

The solution might be to have the liquid delivered in measured doses via a mechanical system incorporated into the cartridge. The wadding would be done away with and a partially sealed area created in the cartridge for the liquid. Perhaps a miniature version of the valve found on shower gel bottles could be used, or maybe the viscosity of the liquid would mean that a small hole could be used without the fluid leaking.

Pressing the end of the cartridge would force a measured amount of solution through into the atomizer.

Just thoughts!.......

That sounds like a ace idea Joe manufacturers take note

Till now the only way to deliver the liquid to the atomizer is through the wadding, some have tried to overcome atomizer problems by designing a trow away atomizer, some have designed it in a way the heating filament sticks inside the wadding (which cause it to burn of course!).. we are trying to come up with a solution whereby the liquid doesn't even touch the atomizer and surely not the heating filament. Development takes time, I recon a year form now we might have a demomodel for testing...

The pictures show burnt stuff, but no mention of the manufacturer, model, etc. If you are going to post something like that it would be nice to have a few details to go off of.

If you are going to trash another product you should at least include the basics. Who, What, When, Where, Why and How. Scare tactics alone can be bad for business.

That looks pretty bad. I've been interested in the atomizer/cartridge combos such as the Longtotem one you posted. I was thinking of getting one for my grandma. She wouldn't be able to deal with replacing atomizers or worrying about cartridges, so I thought something like that would be perfect for her. Something needs to be done about the inside of the cartridge burning like that. They have the right idea but the execution is bad.
