First of all, let me appologise for the length of this post. I seem to find that alot of questions asked are usualy answered with another question about details. So i thought i would try to avoid as much of that as i could and just include it all up front. Thank you for taking the time to read and respond!!!
Here Goes!!8-o

Ok so my wife and I got a set of 510’s about a week ago, bought extra batteries the PCC, juices at 24mg strength a 10 battery charging station, empty carts and threw in the kitchen sink for good measure:)

SETUP:
Charged the batteries for 2 hours, took about 10-12 drags off them and charged for the remaining 8 hours.

Mixed the e-juice at the following ratios: (have tried it with vodka and without didn’t seem to matter to the attys
10ml of 24mg e-juice
8ml VG (food grade from Michael's)
3ml distilled water (also tried using 2ml water & 1ml vodka but it didnt seem to matter to the atty)

Used refillable carts, dripped 5-7 drops then used a toothpick to lift the batting a bit allowing the fluid to flow down to the bottom then gently push the batting back down and top off with 1-2 drops or just before the juice would not absorb anymore.

Primed the atty with 2 drops of juice then install cart.

VAPING:

Now just for some understanding of our smoking habit, I was a VERY HEAVY smoker, during the week I smoked 2 packs a day and on the weekend would go through 3-4 packs per day. Yeah scary I know, this is why I decided to Vape ;)
Day 1 & 2: Good vapor seemed to be missing some mouth flavor but good throat hit. Although I did have to add 3-5 drops every 10-15 minutes to because it kept running dry.
Day 3 SATURDAY: now time for the real test. Keep in mind when I said 3-4 packs a day I was not kidding. So I noticed by about 10 am seemed to be not delivering good vapor so I switched to my second atty. That worked great and once again I was topping off the cart every 10 minutes or so and went through a total of 12 batteries in 1 day!
(we bought a 10 station charger and I used a combination of 4 batteries, 2 automatic and 2 manual. Each battery was displaying the solid green light on the charger and each lasted about 1-1.5 hours)
Day 4 SUNDAY: So now I have another issue, the second atty is now starting to go limp on me as far as putting out good vapor(the new one I used for Saturday). So as described by one of the members I boiled one atty for about 10 minutes, blew it out and dried it, wow that was working great.
That worked great so now grab my other atty and the wife’s, since she is having similar issues. Did the same process and they all worked like new. 2 hours went by and 2 attys DIED. Ohms tested and it is infinite resistance. Hmmm ok so boiling is not good, it can and will kill attys with no sense of remorse, how sad.
Rush order a 5 pack of attys and pray that no more die and I have to buy analogs, YUCKY8-o!!

Day 5,6,7: Limping along waiting for the new attys. Vapor is week and the Analog cravings are getting very strong. Tried to change ejuice mixture to get better flavor and vapor with no luck. Read up on batteries and started wondering if the 510 is just not all its cracked up to be, so ordered a 901.
New Attys finally arrived and they worked great, WOOHOO!!
Take that you nasty analogs:pervy:!!
The 901 is good, the wife is liking the draw much better then the 510, I don’t like it as much, but the 510 is making me nervous.
Also got a passthrough, and that worked good, even when an atty was starting to limp that seemed to give it an extra boost to make it almost work good again. Hmm maybe voltage issues?
Also got new juice from a different company, mixed it with above ratios and seemed to be good. I ran the drip test for consistency that was explained here in the forums and it is very close to straight e-juice so once again guessing I got the consistency correct.

Saturday again: Now we start all over again Saturday the atty seems to be doing good, but quickly gets weaker and weaker through the day. Once again, new atty on day 3 its not looking good, the e-juice is a totally different company so thinking that the juice from the company is probably not an issue since neither ones seemed to do any better.
Sunday again: Same story, put in a new atty Saturday night and by Sunday night this one is limping on me as well. Hmmm ok now getting real nervous comparing atty prices every 2-3 days to analogs. Hmmm this is not looking good.

Monday-Ok so here we are just over a week into the ecig experience and wanting to stay off analogs because I feel the difference of so much from smell, to taste, to energy.

Sorry for the novel, but wanted to give as much info as possible to help the experts give advice.

So here goes the questions:
  • Does the ejuice mixture look correct or am I running to much of one or not enough of another, or should I be using PG instead of VG for atty life?
  • The 901 didn’t seem to do much different then the 510 except irritate me cause I kept covering the breather hole. Is there another model I should look at given the amount I vape?
  • Does it really matter where you get the attys from since I got mine from 2 different companies? 1st set were from china, and 2nd set were from a company in the USA . 2nd set specifically said “Authentic Joye 510 atty”
  • I read about a KR808 battery being used with a 510 atty with the adapter and the increased voltage makes more vapor, so I was wondering with the amount I vape, would that help the atty last buy reducing the buildup since it burns hotter or would it cause it to fail even faster by burning it even hotter, or would it just not make any difference on atty life and just increase vapor?
  • Cleaning atty’s seems to be a major hot topic, here I found out boiling doesn’t like me or my atty’s. Given the major amount of juice I run through my ecig, that has to be building up on the coils and plugging things up. Also give the fact that after boiling it did help a lot until it they died, so what is the best cleaning and safest cleaning process?
  • Mouth vs Lung smoking? I am a mouth smoker meaning I use my cheeks to fill my mouth with smoke then remove the ecig and then breath a deep breath to get it into my lungs. Where as my wife is a lung smoker, meaning that she takes one very long deep breath sucking the vapor straight into her lungs. She typically gets more vapor and has a bit less issues with her attys but not enough that I can really tell. So does it really matter on smoking style as to the life of an atty?
I can not thank everyone at e-cigarette-forum enough for all the awesome information. I have learned a ton but still need some expert advice.

THANK YOU!!!

Since you were such a heavy smoker and now are a heavy vaper, DOOL, you necessarily are hard on atomizers (the most vulnerable and quickest to die part of an e-cig). You can expect to go through them more rapidly than the average vaper.

Any vaper should have several attys in reserve; you certainly. You can extend their life by proper cleaning (which you obviously are attempting to do) ... and by always keeping them moist. Cartridges don't necessarily do that very well. I urge you to regularly drip one or two drops directly on the bridge of the atomizer (I just plop the drops down the tube in the general direction of the center) – just as soon as the flavor, throat hit, and/or vapor wane.

Here is MoobyGhost's demonstation of how to clean a 510 and 901 atomizer:
Now, your e-liquid. VG is known to be more likely to clog an atomizer than PG. Also, I am curious: Why are you diluting your e-liquid? To lower the nicotine strength? In the process, you are also diluting the flavor. Better to start with a lesser strength e-liquid, e.g., 18mg or mix your 24mg liquid with, e.g., 12mg liquid of the same flavor.

As for 510 vs. 901 vs. some other atomizer, I don't think you need to switch, if you are otherwise enjoying the 510 experience. The 510 (especially the Joye510) is one of the very best atomizers made. Mine have lasted me longer than any of my penstyles (e.g., DSE801), which BTW give me greater TH, but less vapor.

Although atomizer problems seem to be your main concern, you also mention battery. A higher mAh battery like the Kr8 (280 mAh) or the 510 Mega battery (same 280 mAh) will provide more puffs per charge than a standard 510 batt (150 mAh) and will provide a bit more power, since it will stay near the max level of ~4.2V for longer. However, that voltage will not burn out an atty. 6V+ might, especially if the atty is not kept moist. This is the era of the battery mods: there are so many to choose from. One of the higher mAh (e.g., 900) 3.7V batteries might work for you or even perhaps a 5V mod. And bigger batteries (not mods) for the 510 are coming on the scene, e.g., the 650 mAh eGO and Tornado.

So: Never give up, never surrender! [I've always loved that line from Galaxy Quest.]
