Hey guys, i recently started using a 510. After 2-3 weeks my atty started to burn the xxxx out of my throat. I dripped it, blew it it, and made sure i topped off my cart often.

I would take a hit, big or tiny, and it would kill my throad. I smoked a pack a day for years so i know it just wasn't too "harsh"

I replaced the atty, and viola: no throat hurting.

Anyone else have this problem?

Two out of three of my 510s went through this phase (aside from the early unpleasant primer taste) after a couple weeks of trouble-free use. Don't understand it at all.

Until this happened I was very leery of trying any wet cleaning methods but I got desperate. An overnight Efferdent bath, vodka soak, hot water rinse, blowout and long drying period (basically everything I could throw at them!) seemed to lessen it. Then I used highly flavorful liquid and kept them well-juiced until it passed, which it did in about a day.
YMMV of course...but no sense giving up on a functioning atty yet!

Hmmm. that's a good possibility.

Isn't the stuffing supposed to be flesh with the cart?
I often pull it up a bit when it sinks

Yes, this is true, but chesterN is right: a stray fiber can do this. When I was packing my own 510 carts with disposable facial sponge I would trim them about a mm above the top of the cart, making it look like it had a crew cut. The sponge has almost no stray separate fibers, so it would sort of push in a little and mold around the bridge. If you are having to pull the filler up to get the wrap-around effect, it might be the bridge is simply pushing it back down. Often in this situation, the bridge can get starved for fluid, causing the harsh taste.

If you are using original filler, the coffee-stirring straw mod can help juice cycle better, but it is still not perfect.

I'm using Scottyball's auto-drip mod now with the silicone plug, so these issues are not applicable to my carts anymore. Even the best filler materials will require frequent topping off after a day or so of use, and chronic harsh taste. The plug mod seems to solve all these issues. If you have an xacto knife and a drinking straw, it is very easy. The 510 is finicky, but get the right cart system, and it is really great.
