Joyetech BF SS316 Coils

Hi folks,
I don't post much but have a quick question about the 0.6 version of these coils.
I bought the Cubis starter kit and one of these coils came with it. I was the best coil I'd ever tried, primed it the first time and it lasted about 2 weeks without a problem.
I thought great, and sent away for 2 five packs of the same (original Joyetechs) from the same reputable dealer I bought the kit.
I'm now onto my 6th coil in a week and I'm having the same problem with every one. After it's primed I get about 10 minutes max of decent hits and then they taste burned rotten. I then have to re prime them to get my next 10 minutes, and it doesn't seem to matter how I prime (use them right away, let them sit for a while, or even prime and leave overnight) the result is the exact same with these first 6 coils. The only adjustment on the Cubis is the airflow, and I've tried it in every position.
Am I missing something, or has anyone else had the same problem?
Please help as it's starting to drive me nuts, especially knowing that the 1st coil that came with the kit gave me the best puff I've ever had.

Edit to say... I also tried those notch coils and had no luck with them whatsoever.

Does it taste like gym socks smell? I know that seems like a weird way to say it, but it is what it is. If so, you are probably just experiencing the cotton breaking in. If that is the case, as nasty as it may taste, just try going through the next one for an hour or so. After a tank or few, it should lose the funky taste and be much better.

Some I've been re priming for 3 or 4 days and it's still the same (I usually suck up some juice because I've filled the thing, then 10 minutes of decent flavor, then burnt to hell and repeat).
I've even filled up 4 or 5 coils at a time with juice and left them standing upright so I can just swap one after the other.

I keep thinking I must be doing something wrong, but can't figure out what it is.

  1. Prime it with a few drops
  2. Let it sit in the juice for 10 minutes
  3. Never take a hit for longer than 3 seconds max
  4. Only take one hit every 45 seconds minimum to 1.5minutes
  5. Use a high PG juice (70% PG 30% VG) PG juice is more LESS viscous, so it will soak that coil more quickly.
  6. Never direct lung hit it, ever...
These problems occur because the coils re-saturate extremely slowly. If you look at the bottom of the coil you will see two tiny holes for the juice to enter, and this is problem, the juice can't enter the coil fast enough to re-saturate the cotton quickly enough, and so if you don't give it enough time, the cotton will be dry and you'll be burning it up.. If you look at other companies coils they all seem to have big openings on the side where the juice can easily flow in, not these joyetech ones.

If you're a heavy smoker trying to quit, and need those frequent hits, then I would not recommend this device. If you're a light smoker, use a higher nicotine juice so you're satisfied with fewer hits."

Good luck.

From HERE Joye BF coils SUCK.

A couple of quoted replies from the same thread noted above that may be helpful: :)

"I would highly suggest going with the 0.5 ohm Cubis coils. They wick better, can provide better airflow if needed but you can turn it down and do MTL."

"I tried DL hits on the default .6 coil and got a nasty burnt taste. There is MTL written on the coil itself. Since then I've been using it only for MTL and have had no issues since."

We have never used the .6 coils but my better half & I have 6 Cubis tanks in rotation atm plus 6 more in the stockpile. We have used a number of the .5 coils over the last year. Coils seem to last 2 to 3 weeks, sometimes longer for us. I don't remember ever getting a dud. We use DIY 30/70 PG/VG juice & DL hit. Great flavor and vapor & no issues with wicking, dry/burnt hits. They have been great for us. Perhaps try some of the .5 coils & see if you get better results.

Don't give up & good luck! :D

Thanks for the replies, and it's starting to make sense.
Can anyone recommend a type and brand of 0.5 coils with bigger holes (not the notch coils though) that wouldn't burn so easy? I smoked Marlboro reds and pretty much hit on my device the same way as I smoked (not sure if that's a direct hit or not).
I have sent away for an Eleaf Pico 75w. This will be my first device where I can adjust the voltage and watts (I think), and hopefully I'll have better luck with that, but I'd still like to have this small one as backup if I can find the right coils.

Pico is great. You only adjust the watts on it (and it has temp control), but that's irrelevant.
If you bought the kit, it has a Melo III tank which is OK too. Far less troublesome than BF coil tanks.
Surely you can just buy a different tank for the Cubis mod, or am i missing something?
Today, for example, I was using an Innokin iSub tank on my Joyetech Evic mini.

I suggest, if you are a MTL vaper (cigarette like inhale), Joyetech CL-R coils and a tank that takes them. ie: Tron (S or T) tank, Ego One mega V2, Pico-S RTA.

I have been rebuilding the same 3 CLR coils for the last 12 months. The Tron S tank that my wife abuses has survived far far longer than I could ever imagine.

Cheers

I'm looking at the Tron S tank now, but the threaded part looks way narrower than the opening on the one I'm using which is over 3/8 of an inch wide.
Here's the one I have....
eGO AIO BOX - eGo AIO - E-CIGARETTE

Correct...the Tron/CL-R coils would be for use on the Pico.

Sorry for the confusion.
