I just received the Joyetech Cubis tank and I am using the .5 Cubis coil but it is burning my throat a little. Any thoughts on why this is happening? I put 3 drops of juice on the cotton and then I let it sit in the tank for about 10-15 minutes. I currently have my device set to 18 watts. I don't know the vg/pg mix of the juice because it was a free bottle and it doesn't say on the bottle. Any help is much appreciated.

It likely has to do with the wicking - check your cotton, make sure it's not too loose or tight, and it's wet enough around the coils. Apart from that, it could be a high nicotine juice (>6mg), and you should try lowering your wattage.
I think they are using stock coils.

It is a 6 mg nicotine but I have been using a 6 mg for over a month now and I have not experienced this before until recently. If it helps, I was using the .5 coil that came included with the tank. I heard that those are not good coils sometimes.

It is possible you got a bad coil, the tank itself is decent (not my favorite) and there are other coils that work with it that you may want to try. I don't sub-ohm so don't care for the .5 coils myself. I use 1.5 coils when I use mine.

I think I did get a bad coil. It started to smell burnt so I took the cotton out and looked at it and It was like a brown/black color. Also, the juice I was using was kinda clear but when I got the excess liquid out below the mouthpiece, it was very dark in color. That has never happened before.

Those coils are kinda strange because the airflow just hits the top of the coil because of the tank design there is no airflow under the coil. Sometimes they work good for me, and sometimes not so much. There are newer coils that came out when the Cubis Pro came out and they also work in the regular Cubis.

I have another device that takes the .5 Cubis coils and I was using a 70vg/30pg. Could it be that the juice is causing the problem? If so, I might have to back down to a 50/50 mix.

I usually don't have an issue with 70/30 juice, but sure wouldn't hurt to try if you have it to see if it makes a difference. :)

The .5 ohm coil likes to be ran at 23-30 watts, maybe the coil isn't burning enough juice and is spitting. If you like running 18ish watts use the 1.5 ohm coil. It loves 18 watts. Another option is the AIO's .6 (my favorite coil). 20 watts it is a great MTL coil. I have one right now in my eGrip2 at 18 watts, yummie vape.
