I just posted in the other thread, but in my opinion it 's not a deal killer for those running high PG. I have to use 80% PG, and all three of my egrips behave if properly wicked - and all three of them have two holes by the screws!

Interesting you are getting different results Amanda. Seems like most here and on the other thread have probs with high pg when all four holes are not covered with wicking; myself included when I don't cover all four even though I can on my rba. Some have felt the need to insert an extra piece of cotton in the tiny space between the chimney tube and the screw post prior to dressing the coil wick to stave off flooding. Some are considering sanding down the bottom of chimney tube to allow further rotation to expose the hidden holes to wicking.

Perhaps "deal killer" was a little too aggresive for the general public, I dunno, just trying to put two and two together to help folks. I absolutely can not tolerate flooding with my vape so for me it would be a deal killer if an easy fix could not be employed. Glad its working out for you.....vape on:thumbs:

Wow. Missed a lot in this thread. :)

Both my rba bases look like Mr. Sparkle's pic…guess I got lucky! I vape anywhere from 50/50 VG/PG to 80% VG and I have not had a single gurgle, not once, in either of my eGrips which are in heavy use right now. The only leaking I've experienced was the first one I bought that had a tiny trickle of juice out the bottom until I tightened it up (two front bottom screws and old airflow screw) and if I fill from the side sometimes a drip would come out the rba air intake. I figured out that if I put my finger over the airflow hole after the tank was full and tilted the unit up and down until I saw a small bubble rise from the bottom, even that little bit of leaking went away.

I guess with something relatively new, quality control might be a little off at first. I hate that people are having issues with the eGrip…it is my absolute favorite vape and has completely cured me (for now) of any residual shiny-itis for anything else.

So Cal
Does anyone know if the prebuilt coils that come with the rba base are good to go as far as installing them without problems? Seems I'm gonna have to learn how to build coils.

I haven't had a problem with mine, but some others have.

As far as mine not leaking with the holes misaligned, I do stuff a tiny bit of rayon down each side by the screw holes, in addition to ensuring the main wick is fanned out enough. This works for me with high PG - it's just a matter of using slightly more wicking, but not so much it chokes the RBA.

I'm using 28 gauge coils at about 1.7 ohm. I like using this thicker coil a little more vs the stock.
Also I had two (right above the juice channels) out of the existing 4 holes enlarged . The airflow is better imo.
BTW if you are lazy like me, you can take your rba to a vape shop and ask them to build/mount coils. Drill holes for you. They shouldn't charge too much.Sometimes if you buy eliquids they will do it for free. With the stock coils you have right now , when your ready to change your wick , before putting in a new piece of cotton , you can just dry burn the coil for 5 sec to get the gunk off. You can do this for a while imo. Like for multiple months use the same coil.

Well I put it on anyways let it prime the wick good. I'm getting no leaks gurgling noises or any liquid in the mouth just great draw of air and really nice flavor. I started at lowest setting and worked up all the way to 20w with nothing but snap crackle pop and nice vapor and flavor using a 40 VG 60 pg mixture. I am so impressed at the difference even from a brand new stock coil. I hope it continues to not have any problems. *happy dance*

Did yours come with the little 501 adapter thing? http://www.joyetech.com/product/details.php?gno=221 It allows you to put the rba head with the coil inside, screw the top down, and screw the 510 base into an ohms reader to check the resistance of the coil. You should get one if you don't have one because you will need it when you start building your own coils. Also, I have been told by other posters in this thread that it is necessary to heat the coil a little before you wick it and install it in the eGrip. Check back some in the thread, Cigatron tells me how to do this. You would want to do this to make sure that the resistance of the coil is right for the device to fire it. I got lucky with my factory installed rba coils…both of them were ready to rock straight out of the package, I just filled up and vaped. However, when it was time to change out the coil I made the mistake of just sticking another of the factory made coils in the head, wicking it, and vaping it…and the heat from the first hit caused the resistance to change on the coil so that it was too low for the eGrip and it wouldn't fire again. I took it out and fiddled with it and got the resistance right and it worked after that, but in the future I will be pre-heating my coils with the 510 adapter and my iStick before installing them.

Glad you are enjoying your eGrip…that rba head makes a world of difference!

Nope it didn't come with the adapter. I got problems with it now though. Just about a full tank leaked out of the bottom of the rba air hole. I have no idea what to do now.

Hmm. That sounds to me like either you don't have enough wicking material, or you don't have the bottom screwed on tight enough and the vacuum is failing. Did yours come with cotton already installed in the coil that was in the head? If so, it might not have been enough. I would take it apart and make sure that the cotton is long enough and positioned correctly. There are pics in this thread of how people are wicking theirs…I'd post pics of mine but I have no idea how to do that. Also, unlike the stock heads, the rba head screws down hard into the device, at least mine does. It will screw down until it will not turn anymore.

I'm a relative noob myself…those are my only suggestions. Hopefully someone like Mr. Sparkle or Cigatron will be along directly and they can I'm sure help you much more.

Starting from like page 27 on, Mr. Sparkle and Cigatron are discussing wicking the eGrip. Here is the page with pics I was talking about:http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/cignot/613850-joyetech-egrip-i-am-loving-thing-36.html It's page 36. That is what it should look like. You might need to screw the top chimney part on, then move the wicking material around some inside the chamber before you screw the very top piece of the head on.

Also, make sure that the metal chimney that screws into the base of the rba, over the coil area, is tight. Mine was loose out of the package.

I put a longer piece of wick into the coil, pulled the wick up and slid chimney over it, then I used a safety pin to push the wick like all around the sides as best as I could to get back behind the post where the other 2 holes are hiding. I hope that's OK to do. Then I put e liquid onto the wick put the top cap on, and screwed it into the unit nice and tight. Now just letting it sit for a bit to try again. I hope this works.
