No, it is not you. Boges lately have not been consistent. I slot, drill or punch my own. Some will be airy, some tight draws, and others just DOA.
I suck through mine before I slot/drill/punch them, to make sure they have air flow at all. I think that when I punch them sometimes, they partially collapse the tube, other times no problem. When I slot them, they are a little more airy. I will use those for higher VG juice. Last two I drilled sucked. I don't know why. Some are good and some are bad. I buy 25 at a time, because it costs me less than a $1 apiece.

Thanks for the advice. After noodling this through, I took some cartos out to my drill press but that's not an efficient way to punch them; the stainless was too hard and made the little drill bit wander. I think I'll take your advice, buy a bunch and a press and experiment with punching and slotting them with my Dremel. This is not an evolved technology, but it is an enjoyable habit! The inconsistency of the cartos is annoying.
Apologies if this is a bit OT, as I guess this is about the eVic and ProTank. As for the eVic and what seems to work for me........
I recently picked up a Vivi Nova and find that it works reliably with my eVic using the 2.8 ohm heads. I will buy another one or two of those, a bunch of 2.8 ohm heads and use that as it seems reliable. The eVic does earn points in that respect as with the read out, you don't need to measure the resistance of each head to learn which impedance coil works best for you. I'm not a huge eVic fan though; it has both more and less than I think I need in my main mod. Off to ProVari land when the mood strikes.
One really useful move has been the acquisition of a good charger; that has made this mod a lot easier to live with. My particular eVic took forever to charge an 18635 and it frequently never fully charged the battery. It didn't seem to matter if I charged using the AC adapter or computer port, and took 12 hours every time. Unacceptable in my view.
Overall, I feel I get no better results with the eVic than I do with my Spinner except that with the charger and spare batteries I can vape without interruption.
There is a learning curve.
