Don't waste your time with an eVic. They are chintzy! Sold my friend mine because I didn't care for the build quality. 2 weeks later he dropped it and the head fell apart.

Anyone else know about this experience??

So it's 80 with the dct tanks or 100 with the brand new kanger protank 2 and the 2 tanks, so 3 tanks, should I pull the trigger?

My 2 cents from my research is no - you can buy it brand new for a little more! Plus you can get a much better unit (Vamo or ZMax is what I have been considering per my research). I think you will be buying it "just because" its there... I would keep what you have, save your money and do your research on what you want then spend that money on what you want. Check out all of PBusardo's and GrimmGreen YouTube reviews - they are the best! They are my guides! :)

Good luck!

HappyJoanne brings up a good point. Is the Evic a mod that you have coveted for some time after comparing it to other mods in its class, or did you only become interested in it because you thought you might be getting a good used kit deal, kinda regardless of what the mod actually was?

I know that I had won a free Evic at a free raffle drawing at a local vape shop's grand opening party. I didn't know a whole lot about the Evic at the time, but what little I knew about it I didn't think it "fit" for what I typically look for in a mod. I like to use mods that can be used both at home and out of the house. The Evic is rather large and not particularly pocket-friendly. It's more of a stay-at-home mod.

I asked the store owner, if at all possible could I exchange the Evic for a less expensive MVP, and he agreed. The MVP was a mod that I desired owning one day, and here was the perfect opportunity for me to own one.

From what I've read around this forum, doesn't the Vamo feel cheaper? Quality wise? looking them up on youtube right now

Well I just recently started looking into upgrading from this Twist ever since I got offered that k100 and I been watching k100 videos for a while, didn't know there so much to it than just putting the battery in and vaping tho, then I saw a Vamov2 in some brass color a while ago I thought it was kinda neat, wasn't thinking of upgrading yet tho

Maybe its too soon to pull the trigger on this deal. You should be confident that this mod has the features which you want or need, and I don't think you have figured that out yet.

Are you looking for something you can use both at home and out, or primarily at home? You can continue to use your more portable Ego's when out and use a larger mod just for home. I prefer having a more versatile mod myself which I can use equally both at home and out, like my MVP or Mini Provari. I don't have Egos to use outside the house, and I'm not sure after using only mods for over a year I wouldn't consider an Ego to be a step down and be disappointing.

I'm looking for something I can use both at home and out, my ego-c twist is ok but I'm starting to get bored of it? maybe because I'm using the cheap clearomizers it came with, sometimes I can barely taste the flavor, what voltage should I be vaping at?

If you decide to get a Vamo, I highly recommend not getting the gunmetal finish. I thought it looked cool too, but the finish rubbed off where I hold it in about two weeks. I later read in the Vamo forum that gunmetal is the least durable of all the finished. Stainless steel (although it costs a bit more) is what gets the highest rating.

Going from a Twist (which is a perfectly good device, I still have 2 for back-up) you're probably going to be happy at this point with just about anything more advanced you get, since you'll have more power options. You might want to browse through the APV section to find out what sort of problems current owners are having with their devices and how they are dealing with them.

With a Twist, you just dial to where it tastes good; up if it's cool or too weak, down if it tastes burnt. You can't set the voltage very precisely on a Twist.

Clearos (I'm guessing you mean top coil) aren't known for having the best flavor. I switched to carto tanks with my Twist and was quite happy. That is still my preferred set-up today. Have you tried a Protank? If you haven't, perhaps you might want to try a mini (they are less top heavy on a Twist than a full size). An EVOD might be worth trying too. Both a very popular bottom-coil clearos.

There's lots of regulated mods to consider: Vamo, a whole line of Innokin mods (MVP, SVD, 134, VTR), Smoktech/Segelei (ZMax, VMax, Mini), Smoktech SID, Evic, Lavatube, Provari, etc.

There's way too many mechanical mods to even try to list.

Either the Smoktech or Segelei made ZMax Mini is a shorter mod that is pocket-worthy good for home or out.

The best taste I have found is direct dripping, which can be done with a Twist. It's not always convenient though, so my next favorite is a carto tank. Those are what I use with any tube mod. For clearos, I prefer bottom-coil. I don't like the flavor as much, but they are convenient, which balances it out for me.

Proper Terminology: Is it a carto, a tank, or what?

As noted in my above blog article, there are a few categories of "tanks":

  • Clearomizers or clearotanks - these use silica string wicks as the material to carry e-liquid to the heating coil. These can be broken down into top-coil (to produce a slightly warmer vapor) and into bottom-coil(for a slightly cooler vapor). Some people will say that a clearomizer may mute some flavors, but the later generation of clearomizers are getting closer to cartotanks for flavor production.
  • Cartotanks use cartomizers in them. A cartomizer uses a different wick system than clearos to carry the e-liquid to the heating coil. These use a wad of polyfill material which completely surrounds the heating coil with juice. The larger surface area of juice actually in contact with the heating coil seems to allow for more flavor production. Cartos in tanks must have holes punched in them so that with each drag that the user takes, the negative pressure created causes juice from the tank to replenish the carto in the amount of juice that was vaporized. The tank is actually only a liquid reservoir for the cartomizer, which is most responsible for the flavor and vapor production of a cartotank.
  • RBA tanks are tanks that are completely rebuildable by the user. Wicks and coils are created by the user himself. The quantity & quality of the flavor & vapor production can be manipulated by the build of the wick/coil combo made along with variations of the voltage and resistance chosen.

My preference are cartotanks, in particular the pyrex ones. I find them to be more consistant and dependable with better flavor production than a clearomizer. However, the dual-coiled 16 wick Innokin iClear30 clearomizer is only a close second to the cartotank IMHO. These are MY favorites, others will prefer something else entirely as their setups will be different from mine.

Just want to say that I am another that had two Evics both lasted around 2 months, I dropped both maybe two to three times and the heads broke off. I then had two useless silver tubes and had to purchase two of what they call easy heads to use instead. I will not be investing further.

I also have an Innokin SVD, dropped often no problems, I have it since it came out over 7 months, I have a Vamo, dropped often no problems, I have a mini Zmax dropped often no problem, and I have the Innokin Itaste VV V3, dropped often no problem. I am disabled so I do drop the PV's often, I just think for the price that the guy is asking, you could buy new product and get better quality. My money is on Innokin product under $100.00 or if you are really smart, save a bit and get the Provari. I am not able to buy any equipment at all right now, but, when I can, I will get a Provari. The build quality is there.

I have to agree with Baditude and others here that advise the different toppers and working from that angle before doing anything else. You would be shocked at the differences between different toppers. The resistance of the coils, top coil vs. bottom coil, the clearo vs the carto-tank, everyone has a different preference and this is the best place to start. When you are more comfortable with the twist and settings, then look at the mods. You will be able to better understand what the settings will mean to your experience. You will also be able to understand rebuilding the coils.

I am not a techie, but I took the time to learn what was safe and bought the items that were safest for me to use.

I couldn't like your post more than once Karen, so I'll do it here.

LIKE.

:smokie:

That's what I should have done. There should be a "Hi!" and "I agree" buttons. "I disagree," "You're joking, right?" and "This poster is one carto short of a tank" would make nice buttons too.

Oooookkkayyyy So I'm a newbie to this still.... However, since I'm out of work recovering from a serious knee surgery, I spend a lot of time on this forum and just learning about all of this in general. That being said... Here's my :2c:
Thanks to this forum, my first vape (after abandoning my blu) was an EVOD BCC... It's pretty cool and was a great start to vaping... After that, like you I decided I wanted something VV so I got the eGo C Twist and put a ProTank II on it.... after more research and reading I decided to go towards something more advanced but I know I'm not ready for the wide world of mechs and rebuilding coils and mesh and and and and and (you get my point). I ended up getting the VAMO V3 with another ProTank II. A lot of people don't like the swirls in the metal on it but I like it... looks classy to me. The most common issue with them is weak threading however for under $5 you can get an Air Flow Controller and this fixes the problem. I thought about getting an EVIC though... I love love love love my VAMO. It doesn't blow clouuudddsss like you'll see in pics and youtube videos but it blows clouds in comparison to my other setups for sure! I'm a big nerd and one of my guilty pleasures as a smoker was smoke tricks (blowing smoke rings, French inhale, angry dragon) silly, I know but it relaxes me, and my VAMO is more than sufficient. And I believe you mentioned that you want something portable, the VAMO has parts that you can remove so that you can make it smaller or bigger to your taste. My suggestion: look for something (not mech) that has VV/VW, and has parts on the body so you can change the size... And for tanks either a protank II or the iTaste 30. Best of luck!
