Oh I'm going to try that, I was just staring at some leftover celery and wondering what I could mix with it to juice, and I just happen to have tomatoes, no broccoli but I'll try mixed greens. A bit of lemon juice can be really good too, here's a cool article on all its benefits.

I've read all about the benefits of lime and lemon but will check out your article to get another opinion on it.

Today's juice: Two oranges and two kiwi. I don't normally do fruit juices because of the whole overweight diabetic thing but DANG IT I wanted an orange juice!

I juice every single day. :)

My favorite recipe is:

4 Kale Leafs (do first, so the items you do next, force the rest of the Kale juice out)
1/2 Bartlet Pear
1 whole Green Apple
4 whole carrots
1 snip of ginger

I take that, and pour it into a blender, with a scoop of yogurt and a bannana with 1 cup blueberries. Delish.

Good tip about the Kale, I juice it often but never knew that.

Do you guys make your juice every day and drink it fresh? That is what I like to do. However a friend of mine likes to make big batches and freeze it in serving sizes, then she thaws overnight and drinks in the morning, what are your thoughts on this? I'm thinking it may loose too many nutrients. I know heat destroys enzymes, not sure about freezing?

That's how I'm starting to feel, I notice I'm not juicing as much b/c I'm getting too lazy to do it every day so I was thinking about making batches myself. I think I'll do a little research on freezing and enzymes as well, b/c if it doesn't damage them I make make huge batches and freeze as well.

I make about 3 days worth each time. I put it in a tupperware container and put it in my fridge. I am sure that fresh is probably slightly better for you, but I am a procrastinator hardcore..... and I want to drink my juice every morning. If I dont pre-make it I will find an excuse to skip.

I know you are not supposed to use a blender or food processor if you really are after the nutrients. You still get A TON but the friction does take some away. Also, the moment the juice becomes open to oxygen it begins to lose nutrients. Immediately. Freezing slows this effect down, but a juice that was frozen overnight still has only roughly 3/4th the nutrients, and after another day only half. I don't KNOW this for certain, it's just things I read on a juicing forum.

Today's juice:
Kale
Carrot
Ginger root
Celery
Broccoli
Apple to sweeten

I just decided I wanted a little bit of everything this morning. Not the best tasting juice but boy is it good for you!

Well if it retains 3/4 of the nutrients, I can live with that! It's tough for me to wake up early, and waking up earlier to juice bothers me even more hehe.

Do you guys buy organic veggies, or go to the grocery store? I just go to my local grocery store, as the organic stores are quite a drive away for me. There will be farmers markets in the summer though I can buy from.

Organic stores are out of our price range. We deal with having to buy from the grocery. It's not the best, but it's what I can afford and it's still better than the preservative filled junk I used to pour into my body.

Personally for me, though, waking up, taking a shower and then heading to the kitchen to juice while I listen to smodcast on my tablet is a daily ritual and I couldn't imagine starting my day any other way. =)

It's more expensive, though, isn't it?

@Diet Sam - congrats, you are off to a great start. You may hit the occasional plateau but hang tough through it!

BTW: we have a niece who did the lap band a few years back. She lost huge. BUT: she didn't change much in her habits and now she's heavier than ever. So, surgery isnt the golden answer either.

My understanding is: sugar cravings signal need for protein; salt - mineral; Fried / chips - EFA (essential fatty acids)
Fiber is needed to "sweep" the gut, bind up toxins if I remember correctly.
Protein being the build & repair ... please don't rule out whey protein.
Up to 1 gram pound of body weight, its easy on the digestive system.

LOL - the Bright Side podcasts are my daily ritual!
Juice fasting is said to be an excellent break for the body be it 1-2 days a week or monthly.

If your interested - checkout the benefits of virgin coconut oil - good info at Tropical Traditions ... that along w/ veggies & meat allowed me to loose 100+ and keep it off for 4 years now.

I don't listen to Bright Side, I listen to smodcast, Tell Em Steve Dave, I Sell Comics, Plus 1, The Secret Stash, Jay and Silent Bob Get Old, and the Smod-Co Morning Show. All of them are "smodcast", which is Scott Mosier and Kevin Smith (the guys behind Clerks, Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob, etc). If you've seen Comic Book Men, that's all of them. Tell Em Steve Dave (my favorite) is the bearded guy and the shop owner, Walt.

Not at all familiar w/ the smodcast crew. Thot perhaps it was a typo.

Broodwich: The Brightside had an excellent 2-3 weeks just on statin drugs and the mess they make of your body - think that was Nov. I see a lot of the mind crap in hubby - he's been on statins for 11 years.

Reading about Dr Gerson a few years back cultivated my mistrust of the medical profession. Not to say that he would 100% cure all cancers, but the fact that they pushed him out of the country and he was helping people, just goes to show.

I will look into that Nov series b/c actually I just had to Google what statins are. I'd be willing to bet diet could mostly fix Cholesterol, I'm not doctor but diet is usually what causes it right?

Smodcast stands for smith and Mosier podcast. It's a play on words for their last names.

Like I said, Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier. The Clerks movies, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Jay and Silent Bob, etc. They're from Jersey, hockey fans, comic book collectors (Kevin Smith owns a comic book store which now has it's own show on AMC - Comic Book Men - The people form that show all have their own podcast shows on smodcast).

There's an app on android called Smodcast forever or something like that that I use to listen to podcasts, but you can also check it out on their website. Just look up smodcast.

This mornings juice:
1 half a lime (big mistake, the limes I previously used were much less potent. These were VERY POTENT and half a lime was WAY too much)
1 whole cucumber
1 and a half leaves of kale
1/4th a jicama
a heaping handful of spinach.
