DS: your juice (w/ lime) still sounds yummy!

Broodwich - wont have time for a few days to see if I noted it but Ben had quite a lot to say about the truth of cholestrol testing ( tells them squat actually). You are correct about diet - but different reasoning! ;)

Nutshell: if I have it correct, it's the body's band aid for inflamation from free rads - caused by diet.
There's another program Fire Your MD w/ Dr. Peter Glidden. Also on GCN Radio. They both more or less look at statins as either "stupid, stupid, stupid" or a cruel hoax.

OMGosh! Apologies! I misread your name as Sam!
Is kale more sweet or bitter? You have some good stuff in there!

I always add SOME to my juice, but the yield is so little that I want to add other high producing veggies like celery and cucumber in order to really enjoy it. Every juice I make has some kale in it, and I usually have some spinach too.

I'm really enjoying 'The Bright Side.' It's really informative and I enjoy listening to his callers too. I'll def have to check out 'Fire Your MD.' Listening to this just reminds me how happy I am that I quit smoking. It's a great willpower boost.

I'm off to the store now, going to have carrot apple juice this week. Sooo simple, and also my favorite!

Answer to flavor of Kale: Honestly? I'm not too certain about the flavor of the juice, the yield is pretty small so it's usually just like half a shot of kale juice for an entire tall glass of green juice. Couldn't pull the flavor aside if I wanted to. Tomorrow, I'll take a sip of it before other juices are added! It's just there for the benefits to be honest.

I'm going to guess it tastes bitter. Let us know though, I'm interested to see what it's like on its own.

Oh it'd be very doable. Add a little ginger root or even an apple to sweeten it. Or, just bite the bullet. I often drink juices I don't like just for the benefits. One common example is tomatoes, which I feel leave way too much pulp and I hate the texture of it. But, if I'm running low on vegetables I have to make some sacrifices!

Hi guys. My wife and I both started caring more about our health once we got into vaping. Five weeks ago we started dieting too. I've lost 30 pounds so far =)

A big helper of this has been juicing in the mornings. I juice things like broccoli, cauliflower, celery, carrots, etc. I then add a fruit of my choice for a sweetener (usually a banana, it's my favorite fruit).

What are some of your favorite juices? What are some secrets you have for juicing? My big secret is CINNAMON. Ground cinnamon is good for the metabolism and speeds it up. If a juice doesn't turn out as tasty as I had hoped I can add a teaspoon of ground cinnamon, wisk it up, and enjoy. You can also add cayanne pepper.

Good thread! I've used a Vita Mix for many years to make smoothies. Ten years ago I lost 80 lbs by practically living off the raw veggies I packed into that machine. Last year I got a Jack LaLanne juicer and I use it several times a week. I make a lot of carrot juice, and usually have at least 25lbs of carrots in the fridge. I add ginger, apples, cilantro, beets and other fruits and veggies as I feel like. The Jack LaLanne sieves out all the pulp, which makes great compost (and, I would think, great carrot cake if it's just carrot or carrot/ginger). The VitaMix is like an industrial-strength blender (think Ford Escort vs Hummer). It simply pulverizes everything, and you have to add liquid to make a good smoothie. I use them both, and I'm a huge fan of juicing!

Congrats on losing that weight and getting healthy! I have been juicing for about a year myself....it really helps, sometimes I slack and don't juice for a week or two, and I feel so much better once I get back on track. More energy, clear skin, etc..

I would love to juice more myself, but it's not in my budget. I think I'm going to start having a juice fast day once a week; I've been hearing a lot of health experts say it's really good to give your body and digestive system a break.

If you like carrot juice....in many areas you can ask at the supermarket for horse carrots. Those are the less-than-perfect carrots that don't get put out on display. They have cracks or funny shapes but are perfectly good. I usually buy a 25 lb bag for about $8.

No Way!!! That is just awesome news to hear, I will be doing this next time; I just went to the store on the way home from work, wish I woulda read this first lol.

Got enough goods to do a one day juice fast (Monday) and hopefully enough for a couple more days. If I want to do it weekly though I'm going to have to do some adjusting in my budget. May have to be every other week instead.

I think when summer comes around I may start doing smoothies to for good energy boost in the mornings. I'm also thinking about buying an Omega Vert in a few months. We'll see if I still want it after I save the money :p My $70 centrifugal is doing pretty well I think, but SO loud.

The Jack LaLanne juicer costs around $100 (I got mine on Freecycle - keep your eyes open). VitaMix, Champion, Omega all cost more. The JLL is quiet and works very well. The only hassle - and this is true of any juicer - is that you have to take the whole machine apart and clean it with every use. Not a real big deal IMO. Earlier this afternoon I came across this thread and it inspired me. I juiced about 6 lbs of carrots, a big bunch of cilantro, a medium sized beet and probably 3-4 oz of fresh ginger. Gonna start my day with that tomorrow!

A lot of your smoothie making can be done with any good blender. The thing is you have to add liquid such as fruit juice or almond or oat milk, or even water. You can also add things like bananas and avocados, which you can't put through a screen-type juicer because these fruits don't have juice - they have oil. You can add nuts, seeds (try chia), or even a spoonful of coconut oil or yogurt if you want. So the blender is actually more versatile than the juicer, costs less for the most part, and is easier to clean, too. Plus you get all the fiber that's in the pulp and skins of the fruits/veggies. All that said, it's the JLL I use the most, because the strained juice is just so darned refreshing.

EDIT #1: Cilantro and parsley are both very cleansing herbs. Cilantro is the only herb I know that is said to be able to chelate heavy metals from the body. The seed of the same plant is called coriander.

EDIT #2: Horse carrots. I was in the big warehouse-type grocery store a couple months ago and asked for them, and the young kid I talked to had no idea what I was talking about. He asked me if that was anything like horseradish. So it never hurts to ask more than one person. Last time I was there, they had the big 25-lb bags of ugly, broken carrots out on display. The check-out lady was closer to my age and the first thing she said was, "Hey, Shoog. Those for horses or juicing?"

I just got off a huge juice cleanse.
I lost 20 lbs or so, mostly green juices.
I will say before careful, I've done it a few times, but made the mistake of flushing my system too quickly.drinking, parties, and crap food stuffed up my body, and I juiced beets daily. They flush your kidneys better than anything, but cleanse too fast and you will get a kidney stone.
Don't juice beets too often, or Other strong flushing antioxidants.
Otherwise juice rules

I got one of those nutribullets. Its a like an upside down blender, super powerful, turns stuff into juice and I drink my fiber too. The fiber is important because it cleans out your intestinal and digestive tracts which, really needs to be cleaned out because certain foods cling to the lining. But juicing, with or without fiber really seems to be a seriously good health move to make along with vaping. I actually started onto a macrobiotic diet while I was still smoking. Then I went full blown vegan, not even with soy meat substitutes. Vaping has turned me into a total health nut. If we are going to enjoy our consumption, we may well make sure we can live a long time to enjoy it and feel good too. :)
