Greetings it's the 'entitled' 'douche canoe'!
A couple of points, were it not profitable to distribute and resell items there would be no stores online or B&M. There would only be manufacturer direct sales.
If a store that knows when it is busy and when it is not chooses to under staff, I refuse to reward them under employing their part time staff by standing in line for an extended period of time to increase their profit margin. I don't consider that 'entitled' but I am a free man and refuse to patronize an establishment that has so little regard for my free time. When 2 tills are open 5 or 6 customers deep and 6 tills are closed, I consider that an insult to the customer. If all of the tills are open and there are still line ups the store is most likely packed (think Christmas shopping) and I have a choice of knowing I will wait or to leave and pick a less busy time to shop.
I happen to know a cashier who works at a major chain grocery store. She explained to me how management went about their cutbacks concerning cashier wages. If 8 cashiers sold xxxx dollars per hour they could save 25% of cashier wages if they could get 6 cashiers to ring up the same amount. Customers became snarly because of the wait and this in turn made shifts more difficult for the remaining cashiers. Due to customers changing store the volume at the store in question drops to xxxx - 20% per hour and the management decides that 6 cashiers are too many and drops it to 5 cashiers. Wash, rinse repeat...
I don't remember exactly where I read the statistic but the average north american spends about 2 years of their life standing in line. I would prefer that
some retail establishments didn't try to get more than their fair share. Some stores seem to think that the whole 2 years belongs to them and them alone.
So if not being willing to donate my time to a retailer to increase their profit margin makes me an 'entitled' 'douche canoe' I'll wear that title with pride. How are you willing slaves doing?
BTW it would also appear that I have hurt the feelings of some loyal Jugheads customers and if so I would like you to point out where I insulted Jughead? I said little more than I do not fit in his business model and if it works for him, all the power to him. It's obvious that he has more customers than he can handle and it is working for him so Jughead, keep doing what you are doing. It's working!
