I quit cigs Jan 2 using an eGo-C kit (recommended by a co-worker), and while it managed to keep me off the burning white sticks, its finicky-ness and unreliability prompted me to delve a bit further, initially with additional carto’s and attys, then on to tanks and dripping, and once I started dripping, all my research pointed to bottomfeeders, which naturally led me to the REO. After reading all of the rave reviews and posts by the loyal followers here I was pretty much a convert, but what really tipped the scales was seeing how easily accessible and involved the manufacturer was.

So I pulled the trigger and my VV Grand arrived 1/25/13 and I absolutely love it; my eGo batts sit in my desk in the off chance I forget my extra batts or an atty goes awry, or I want to sample a flavor before filling a whole bottle with it.

But I am having somewhat of a problem getting good atomizers and keeping them good. I initially had good luck with standard Joye LR attys, but they seem to have difficulty with any of the thinner, more PG, juices and end up gurgling and producing poor vapor with anything less than about 50/50 PG/VG
I’ve had luck with some of the SmokTech (Tek?) Dual-Coil LR attys’ with the thinner juices but they seem to clog quickly and 2 of the 5 I’ve purchased are so restrictive I feel I’m about to suck my hair back into my head just trying to get a puff (this was straight out of the package too)
I try cleaning the ones that perform well once they seem to start acting funny (using "Vladamir's Revenge-" $10 a half-gallon Vodka), but then it's a day-long struggle to get them back to where they were, and that only seems to last a day or two.

So I feel that in my haste to get right to the best device I may have missed some of the learned experiences others have gleaned from time spent messing about with other devices and their attendant atty’s/cartos. I’ve got a Reomizer incoming (should arrive today), and some of the Vapage AMG hybrids on the way as well, but anyone have any good advice on some solid performing attys? Oh, and I’ve tried a few carto’s as well, and they just seem to take the joy out of the bottomfeeder principle; I feel they leech all the tastes I’ve come to expect from my juices. I’m not opposed to staying with the higher VG juices if that’s what’s necessary, but I just wondered if anyone had any atty advice for someone who jumped in perhaps a little too quickly.

The rebuildables=RBA are a major game changer. But I purchased a bunch of bulk cartos and attys on fabulous sales that I throw on when in a rush and don't have a good or clean coil/wick on RBA handy.

Although DH and I didn't really like the shorty Smoketech cartos (and I can't really remember why) I see almost no people who try them not liking them. People report better flavor from those cartos. Sorry, can't advise on large percentage PG juice. Most people use half to mostly VG but not all. Hoping some all PG users will respond.

Congrats on quitting the stinkies and your new VVG.

With the Reomizer almost here, that's kinda what I was hoping to hear. Is there much of a performance difference is there between it and the A7?

Still looking for a good atty though; sometimes the convenience of "plug and play" is priceless (even if that means i have to try out some of those "Cisco" attys . . .).

and some of the Vapage AMG hybrids on the way as well,

I am certainly no authority whatsoever on atomizers as was a Kanger carto user for most of my vaping life. However, thought I'd put my small :2c: in on these ones. After experimenting with the Joye, 510 bridgeless atty, IKV 306 (which I just cannot get to work properly!), these hybrid atties have proven excellent for me. Short break in period although you will likely hear a good, resounding 'snap, crackle and pop' when you first start using them. Nothing to be concerned about. :) I prime them with 5 - 6 drops first and then off I go with them. You might really like these as your 'plug and play' atty.

I find that they also last a good long time. With only one alcohol bath, I generally get a good month out of them. They would probably last longer if I wanted them to but they aren't that expensive so I give them a month and then switch to a new one. I am way to technically challenged to even consider the Reomizer so will likely be sticking with these for the foreseeable future.

Just to clarify. As overly dramatic as that sounded, it's an understatement. RBAs are awesome. Cheaper to maintain, fairly easy to set up in a mediocre way that will compare to regular atties, much higher capacity compared to regular atties. Once you get the hang of them, they start coming out noticeably better than regular atties, yet have capacity comparable to cartomizers.

To answer your question about A7 vs Reomizer. A7 requires more fiddling, but I think is more flexible, so you can achieve better results. A7 is noticeably bigger than the Reomizer, quite a bit sturdier (I actually managed to break my Reomizer), and has higher capacity. Reomizer is made by Reo (which earns it quite a few points), and is simpler to setup to start with. It also works much better straight out of the package. Well, it's usable out of the package, unlike A7 that tastes like a well greased lawn mower in the configuration as it ships :)

I kind of figured RBA's would change the game, even at this early stage (for me). I'm anxious to get home and fiddle with the Reomizer. Hell, I haven't even built my first coil yet and I'm already trying to envision ways to improve upon wicks and coils and RBA innards. Good thing I picked a new "hobby" that has so many avenues to explore.

I intend to try DIY juices, but I'm a bit leery of it right now. Seems like baking, which I suck at (though I'm a good cook, I'll screw up anything where I have to measure out precise quantities). That, and I'd have to buy every available flavor just so I had it in case I wanted to "experiment."

Take baby steps, especially now that you are 'in the game' so to speak, with Reo & the Reomizer. The reomizer will come with a coil & wick installed, and I recommend buying some pre-made coils too...just in case. A lot of the photos you see online are zoom'd in & enlarged...the coils are really small but not that tough to work with once you get the hang of it.

Like you, i recently quit smoking with an ego-c starter kit. I hated it from the start, which was a few months ago, and finally took a sigh of relief during the last week...since my vv grand arrived. Can't believe that even the expensive ecigs suck so bad.

You really should enjoy this, its a totally different thang than what you've used before. 100% improvements in most every area of use.

I have also been fiddling with 100% vg juices lately, and found that I can really crank up the voltage with vg. With a normal pg/vg juice mix I usually vape around 4 volts, with a good vg juice i'm up over 5 volts & loving it. You don't get the throat hit or tickle with vg juice.

Welcome aboard & read up. It'll save you a lot of time, $ & hassles. You are most of the way there already!

Welcome, Stratified :)
I wouldn't worry about DIY overly much. We don't do exact measurements in this house. When you get around to it, you'll find it's a lot easier done than said once you get past your first batch. We use a syringe to get close and then add drops to taste. You can make it more of a science if you want to, but it's not necessary.

I have to admit, I'm a much happier vaper now that I'm using RBAs. I wasn't interested in them at all, but once I tried one, I was sold. It has saved me a ton of money too. I loved my Cisco 306s and HH357s, but the RBAs really do seem to perform better...at least for me. Please, do not over tighten the reomizer....it is hard to remove if you do and easy to break.

Strat, you did well to get a REO. I have been using 1.7 supershort cartos and love em, but about to start RBing A's now that I have a hornet on the way. I don't want to be unable to get cartos or pay excessive prices for them if the FDA starts to regulate. I just picked up a few feet of Kanthal at a local shop to practice twisting up coils while I await the RBA.

Good luck to you and enjoy your REO and the fantastic resource of the many helpful REOnauts here on ECF.

Thanks for the info; I've already come to rely on this thing entirely too much, if I did something to it to take it out of action for any amount of time I'd be lost.

Yep. THAT'S why most of us have more than one.... :) You can get so spoiled that there's just no way using an eGo again for even a day or two while the REO is in the shop would cut it. That's the REO virus that gets all of us.
