Re: first sentence - the same was true for buggies and buggy whips before cars; whale oil lamps before electricity; Atari and Commodore before Dell, Apple, HP, et al. Not much 'blowback' (but some, from all concerned).
The difference being that buggies and whips, whale oil, and early micro computers weren't a major source of revenue for various goobermints, nor was there an entire branch of academia who had made it their life's work to eliminate the scourge of wheeled transport, lighting from homes, or computing devices from society.

That's true. But newspapers, magazines, movie theaters, and video stores *were* a major income source, before the internet, and then there's long distance telephone service... Most of those still exist, but they sure aren't the King of the Hill anymore. I'm not sure long distance survives anywhere except AT&T; everyone else has gone to smart phones, Skype, or VOIP. And there *have* been those convinced that the internet is "the antichrist" (pretty sure there are still a few), but the internet hasn't gone anywhere. And despite all the idiocy of our gov't, the US doesn't own the internet, and therefore, can't "regulate" it.

People can fight new tech, but eventually, new tech wins. Always. And when the new tech may protect the health and lives of as many people (if not more) as the smallpox vaccine and Lister's antiseptic surgery combined, it's even more likely to eventually carry the day. It doesn't matter what some idiots say about truth; it's still truth. The truth will always out.

I agree it's harder with gov't programs but there have been many - more at the state and local levels where privatization has occurred. And I guess the Soviet Union might be another example :)

I was more pointing out the obvious point of how things change with technology and I think that ecigs are in that category.....

Consider the printing press, and what IT was up against : THE POPE! Oh, he HATED the printing press, and the Catholic church did everything it could to suppress it. Didn't matter. It still prevailed over monks in scriptoriums writing out by hand what the Church WANTED people to know. Modern technology has now almost obsoleted actual printing presses (there are still some, but they're rare), and I bet the owners of those presses railed against modern technology -- to no avail.

Most of the older tech took quite a while to become obsolete; everything took longer, in the past. Nowadays everything moves fast -- look how PCs and telecommunication have advanced since the late 1980s! With the impediments that the gov't is trying to throw at vaping, they might slow it down somewhat, but eliminate it? Never. They might have stood a chance in 2008, but that was 8 yrs ago -- and just look how EVERYTHING has changed in 8 yrs -- including vaping. In the modern world, 8 yrs is an EPOCH.

Just remember that the only thing worse than believing all those weird conspiracy theories, is to believe none of them.
Interesting perspective. How do you chose which one(s) to believe in ? Do you chose the ones most closely aligned with your political and/or world view, or do you have other criteria ?

Stolen quote, though I typed it from memory so probably not identical... Do happen to agree with it because many conspiracy theories have a kernel of truth to them. Key is to find one with multiple kernels of truth and cautiously show a bit of public support (while staying as far from the kooks as possible). If / when it eventually grows into the mainstream then gloat and point out that you (and or your spouse) knew all that ten years ago.

Hint, you do not find references to JFK, Big Foot, or 911 on food labels. Has a greater potential to bite mankind in the bee-hind that almost anything. Not totally off topic for this forum because it has been done to tobacco.

I think Elvis is Alive and Well. And is living in Santa Fe New Mexico.

problem is once it is out there it is out there and no amount of correction will make a difference, people will now go around saying vaping is the same/worse than smoking now, but then I am sure they know and counted on this fact.
Yup, the correction/clarification was published on Jan 5, a week after the original press release, but not a mention in the mainstream media. As @Hulamoon said in the other thread :

Sadly, and as I've mentioned in the past, you can say whatever you please and flat out lie to the media - provided you get your oar in first. Then, no matter how outrageous the lie, that's what sticks with the public memory. Anything that refutes such grandiose porkies then sounds like nothing more than a defense tactic. It's a nasty ploy, but well within the immoral compass of bought and paid for "scientists".

If by "conspiracy" one means people getting together and trying to work out how to get exactly what they want, then it's very hard for me to think of anything that is NOT a conspiracy. I'm pretty sure it's what happens in every boardroom and every living room across the world every day.
