Just bought 5 Boge style cartomizers and delrin drip tips... not impressed

So, I have a Joye 510 platinum several months ago. I am still using the original atty with the carts. I am using e-juice from Obsidian Vapors to the tune of 12mg in assorted flavors. Very happy with the amount of vapor they produce (80/21 PG/VG mix, I think). Just got my Boge style cartomizers per several online suggestions with delrin drip tips. I have to say... I am not impressed. It took FOREVER to fill up the cartomizers, and then while I am using them, they are very noisy (crackling and bubbling). They have a VERY light draw (especially with the drip tips). I can get over that part... but the vapor production is nowhere near the original atty that came with my 510. Am I doing something wrong? I have an eGo battery (passthrough type, but can be disconnected to be used as a normal battery) and cone coming in the mail sometime this week. Not sure if that will make any difference. Right now, I am thinking I wasted $15. Can you guys let me know if your experience was the same or if I am doing something wrong? Thanks!

If you got regular cartos, they are probably 3.0-3.4 ohms. To get the vapor and hit of your atty, you will need to get low resistance cartos. Boge makes those too, and they are among my favorite. The resistance of those can be 2.0-2.5 ohms, depending on the vendor. If you are using a regular Joye 510 battery, however, you will want to keep the resistance of the carto to about 2.5 ohms. Lower than that can damage the smaller batteries. Any LR carto on an eGo will be fine, since they are higher capacity batteries (650 mAh vs ~160 mAh for a regular 510 batt). I have one of those PT eGo batts that I use in the car, and there is always a Boge Lr carto on it with a drip tip. I actually like the slightly airier draw of them, but this can be greatly reduced by using the cone.

Crackles and pops are normal for a carto, but these tend to diminish as you use up the juice in it. To me it means the carto is full and working well.

What Kurt said!

Also, some other cartomizer suggestions (which I personally prefer over the wildly popular Boge 2.0):

  • Smok Tech Mega Dual Coil: About twice the juice capacity as the Boge and a smoother taste. Unfortunately, it really needs higher voltage than the 3.2V eGo for optimum performance (although you may love the pairing). Works very well on a 3.7V Riva or mod ... and many vapers treasure it at 4.0+ volts.

  • Smok Tech 1.7 ohm Mega Single Coil: Same juice capacity as the dual coil. Nicknamed the Resurrector by Crystal Clear Vaping and ReJuvenator by SmokTek, because it brings new life to the 3.2V eGo. It hits hard.

  • CigEasy's Elite 808: Also twice the capacity and, perhaps, my favorite cartomizer today. When used on its own 4.3V (not under load) battery, the TH is intense – sometimes too intense for me. On the lower-voltage eGo (with a 510-to-808/901 adapter, e.g., from Good Prophets), it is a smoother experience.

  • EastMall's LR 801 (sold here in the states by Vapor Junction): Same size as the Boge, but with a different taste (deeper, richer to me). Also hits hard. [Use on the eGo (or any 510 fat batt) with a 510-to-801 adapter.]

  • Any of IkenVape's cartomizers: I've only tried their LR 801 (which is great), but I understand that it is just one of their 510s (not sure which) with an 801 connector. So using it with an adapter on an eGo (as I've done) really is silly. [NOTE: I see that IkenVape is currently offline.]
Links are to the supplier mentioned and/or to one of the lowest priced suppliers for the model.

So lots of choices (and there are others). I would be shocked if you didn't find one (make that more than one), which didn't strike your fancy.

You can easily fill most of them using the simple carto cap (aka condom) method demonstrated here by Doctor Vapor:

The larger cartos will take two to three such carto cap fills. After vaping for awhile, topping off via the drip tip is quick and painless.

What comes to mind for me is that maybe you have it overfilled? If the lack of vapor is consistent the whole time you are using it then that would not be the case but if you overfilled it and then just took a couple puffs with little vapor then maybe it is just overfilled. For me personally, even the low resistance boge cartos do not hit hard enough for me and I prefer the ones that Don mentioned the smoketech single coils(resurrectors). I do not get huge plumes of vapor but its not bad by any stretch. About the cone, when I used an ego style batt I enjoyed vaping with the cone much more than without, it tightens up the draw and since you are forced to draw a little harder it in turn produces a bit more vapor imo. Good Luck.

For a new carto, drip 20 drops into the top holding the carto at a 45 degree angle turning slowly. Now let it sit for 20 minutes. Look down into it again..if it looks dry, slowly drip one drop at a time until it looks slushy. Now gently blow through it to remove any juice that may have entered the airhole. Vape away. The Boge are one of my favorite carto's. Draw is just perfect for me...not too tight and not too airy. Draw slower...oh and the snap, crackle, pop is music when using these...you know they are working properly.

If you want a warmer vape, try 2.0ohm Boge. For a hot vape, 1.5ohm. And for a cool vape, 3.0ohm.
