It could also be the way you're inhaling the vapor. You don't inhale it the same way you do a cigarette. With a cigarette it's a short, hard puff, deep inhale; with e-cigs, it's a long, slow, easy pull, then let it linger in mouth and throat for a bit before inhaling (or even instead of inhaling), then slowly exhale via nose, or nose and mouth. In vapor, the nicotine absorbs better in the soft tissues of mouth, throat, and nose, rather than in the lungs. With cigarette smoke, the combustion particles in the smoke are so fine, nicotine absorbs better in the lungs.

When I realized I was trying to vape the same way I smoked, but was still having to go out for that "first smoke of the day" (the only one I smoked, for the last 3 days I smoked), I started paying attention to inhaling more slowly with vapor, and that night, while practicing those long, slow inhales, I managed to get so much nicotine into myself, I got the sharp stomach pains -- and I was vaping 6mg. The next morning, instead of running right out to get that first smoke, I vaped, doing the long, slow inhales, nose exhales -- and that was my first smoke-free day.

Cigarette satisfaction is immediate; the satisfaction with vaping takes longer, 5-15 minutes. But if you can make yourself slow down and take your time, you get every bit as much satisfaction from vaping.

I have 2 tanks. One has a 0-6mg flavor of some sort and the other is a 15-18mg tobacco for when I get a real craving.

Works well for me.

I also smoked cigs when I started vaping. Went from about 12 a day to 2 instantly then 1. While I smoked analogs I could not believe how gross it was and how much I enjoyed vaping more.

Hi there. I think you have to first ask yourself if you really do want "to quit". It is a strong addiction and a very hard friend to say goodbye too. (talking about cigarettes) I am not sure how much you smoked before you started vaping but I can only think of two suggestions. . .

1. You increase the nicotine percentage of your just and see if that helps with the urge to smoke.

2. Try a WTA juice that I have read where some people said that it was what helped them. Here is a place where a friend buys from that I have never tried personally, but has helped many people.

Whole Tobacco Alkaloid WTA Eliquid Ejuice

Good luck to you and please let us know how you are doing. ECF is a great place for reliable information but it is also full people that care and want to help you any way they can.

I've been vaping for about 4 months now. What I've experienced is the higher quality mods/tanks I get the less I want to smoke an analogue. Though I do still smoke (My fiancee just had our first child so it's a bad time to quit lol) having gotten the eleaf Istick 30w and the kanger subtank mini I dont WANT to smoke as many analogues, as the flavor and vapor of the device is so good. My first vape product was a little ego style thing (offbrand) and I didn't give up even one cig a day. My next was the Itaste MVP with the Iclear30. That device made me give up about half a pack a day. Now with this setup I really only crave my first thing in the morning smoke and the after meal ones, and I'm finding that even those are going away. I get up, go outside and light up and think "Well this doesn't taste like blueberry lemonaid...what a waste of time." Just my two cents. Good luck!

I woke up this morning and my cousin asked me if I wanted to smoke. As bad as I wanted to say yes I looked over at my Evod and said no. I took a drag and French inhaled it and it took away the craving. It had 18mg and I used it with my Evod 2 battery which is 3.7v. Might get a vision spinner to get 4v but the extra nicotine definitely helped as apposed to 12mg. So far no cigarettes today.

Lots of good comments above :) It's perfectly possible to quit smoking as you're ready to do it. I was "fortunate" that I never needed super-high nic levels (12 is the highest I've ever vaped), but it's all about you and your mindset. +1 on Andria's comments about technique. Some folks just struggle with the actual hit. Got a buddy of mine at work whom I'm trying to help, and I'll offer for him to try whatever new DIY concoction I've made. He tries to hoover it like a cigarette every time, even though I tell him every time "slow and easy" on the draw.... Of course he chokes and hacks every time.

Not everyone quits the millisecond they start vaping. I smoked and vaped for about a month before I finally just stopped buying the smokes (my last pack lasted 3 days, and I had been a PAD for 25 years. And, I was using Spinner 1600s and EVOD tanks - and did for about another month before I started my "never-ending" upgrade adventures.) I'm glad to see that you reached for the vape instead of a smoke, but if you choose the smoke, don't go jump off a bridge about it. Try to reach for the vape the next time - or, take a hit off your cigarette, and take the next hit off your vape. It's one day, one hour, one minute at a time.... Good Luck :)

Definitely stick with the stronger nic at least for a while. I smoked for over 30 years a pack and a half a day and was able to use ecigs to quit. I enjoyed smoking but after I woke up a couple of times having breathing problems I knew it was time to quit. I tried quitting cold turkey; patches; gum; Chantix (made me very sick); and nothing worked. Several years ago I finally found the local Vape shop and got started with the Joyetech ego-c. I had some anxiety the first few days but I just kept vaping away....however often I wanted at a high nic level.....it worked! I just vape now because I am addicted to it and I enjoy it! I no longer use nicotine I just like the feel of the vape! :)

I'm feeling very lucky after reading this thread. I was a PAD smoker for over 30 years. First time I vaped I quite ciggies completely. Never went back.
Over 2 years later I'm down to 3mg nic and sometimes use 0mg nic.
I think I really, really wanted to quit and had so much motivation that I willed it to be. Just made the choice and that was that. I do feel lucky though.
Got my lungs back and I feel great. I did find that as I eventually worked my way up to mods, I could lower the nic level as vaping was so much more satisfying at lower nic levels.
Good luck man, and keep on vaping. I really hope it works out for you.

Great thread, was wondering the same about the lungs...just started vaping about a month ago(istick 30/aspire nautilus), last 2wks 0 smokes!! Feeling awesome!! Talked my friend in to gettin one, he got the same setup with 12mg nic...he's gone from 2 PAD to just 5 smokes a day and can't believe it!!

2.5 mo without a single puff on an analog . i wont say how much i was smoking , but ... so i am not like joe pro or anything . just some words of encouragement cause i really struggled but feel i have made it over the rough hump . things were nightmarishly bad for a while though .... i mean really tough but nothing compared to cold turkey which i wouldnt have been able to do that so ...

a variety of flavors i enjoy / good hardware AND the times when i wasnt suffering from vapor fatigue was what made it easy but i can tell you that after a certain point , for me things got a lot easier and i honestly haven't craved at all . even seeing people on tv / movies , and occasionally smelling cigs being smoked i havent had those strong trigger urges like i have had in the past . i have "quit" cigs a half dozen times for like 3 months up to almost a year .

once i got some juice that i really love / good equipment , and the goofy side effects subsided , i can say i seem to enjoy vaping infinitely more than the analogs .

figuring in all the good benefits , the "snot smelling awful / stinkin up " its been soooo worth it as i really do enjoy it . the biggest unexpected thrill has been taste enhancement , like salad ... my steak dinner on friday , and the other day i had an oreo , generic mind you but there was this rich dark flavor in that , amplified , i havent tasted that since i was a kid , and it was simply mind blowgly good !

hang in there , every day it gets easier .

Halo has amazing tobacco e juices. Captain Jack is a dead spot-on pipe tobacco flavor and Long Horn kinda tastes like Marlboro southern cut to me. The "Reaper Blend" from Rocket Fuel Vapes has really high rating (was 2014 e juice of the year in Spinfuel magazine, which I highly trust for its e juice reviews).as a tobacco e juice. Ramp up the nicotine level to 24mg, and vape yourself sick until you don't wanna look at the cigarette. Or, which is a lot better method, do not try to emulate smoking with vaping. Emulation never surpasses original. Just take vaping in a different light. That what you need is NOT a cigarette, but nicontine. and vaping gets that for you. Try bunch of different e juices instead - like fruit flavors, dessert flavors, as you did, and find something that you really, really like. Vaping gives you a different satisfaction from a cigarrette, and try to enjoy vaping itself. I was an incorrigible, a pack a day, Marlboro Red, oh-so-b!tchy when she's out of her cigarette smoker for six years but I've been vaping exclusively for last two months. and I have no stress at all now.
Tobacco e juice does NOT leave you smelling like cigarrette. Some e juices does leave some odor around that lingers a bit (like Captain Jack), but NEVER to the extent what an analogue does and the smell from e juice does NOT stick to your hair, which is very awesome.

I have vaped Peach Rings, Razzle Dazzle, Apple Rings, Mango, TNT, Monster Melons, Grape, Banana, Unicorn Milk (disgusting), Heather, and a few other ones I can't seem to remember at the moment. Most of which were good in taste but I always find myself still craving a cigarette. I want to quit because I hate smelling like an ashtray. I vape 12mg nic. Is it the throat hit? The tobacco taste? Would a tobacco e juice still have me smelling like an ashtray?

I found 2 tobacco flavors of juice that scratched my itch. Clayton tobacco flavor and Buck Naked American Blend. Clayton is a cheap Chinese import sold at gas n gos and such. The Buck Naked I got at a tobacco shop, it is made in North Carolina. I tried all the tobacco flavors that a couple of vape shops had and all were nothing like smoking. Cloves and butterscotch does not taste like tobacco.

I like the fruit flavors but must have some of the tobacco flavor to kill the cravings for a cig. Over 2 months for me with no cigs.

So I caved about 10 minutes ago although I only took three puffs of a cigarette before I put it out. I guess it's the flavor. I remember buying an e juice called Camel Toe (imagine asking for that, embarrassing) i thought it was going to taste like the cigarettes. It most definitely did not. I enjoy really fruity flavors like the Peach rings really had me hooked but I haven't been able to find it anymore. I got my tank filled with Heathen from my brother and I really enjoyed that flavor. I live in Utah, i there any good tobacco flavors I should look for? I'm towards salt lake city.

Most local shops know what compares to local flavors of cigarettes. Online they mostly compare to national brands. In NY most people haven't smoked a national brand in a decade. Finding a flavor thats very close helps at first, at least for me it did.

I had ZERO interest in flavors. But then suddenly I did.

Then I found flavors I LOVED!!! Oh dear god how wonderful. Cigarettes are gone for good.

I'd be puffing along on some high nic magic juice with no cigarette taste what so ever and just like that I'd want a cigarette. Guessing some part of the brain puts the taste and the effect together and sometimes can't make the jump.

So I started filling a tank with a juice that tasted like what I smoked plus a "happy tank".

For a good while I'd hit the cigarette tank then the flavored tank. And that ended the cravings and I could move forward.

Now I haven't had a tobacco juice in a long while.

Vaping, like life, is a journey not a destination.

I started out with ordering just menthol juices since I was a menthol smoker. Pretty soon I began opening up to different flavors. Now I have been vaping a lot of melon flavors like honey dew, watermelon, some berry flavors. Since I still have so much menthol juice left, I have been blending them with the other juices to simply use up the menthol.
