There's always at least one lawyer :D

I just realized that this IS Rob's forum (being in he suppliers forum and all...call me an idiot for not even checking that and suggesting a change to something that doesn't even belong to me )

Oldbroad and ed101z make some valid points...I think moving forward I will cease and desist in my perceived attempts to hawk my mods on Rob's forum. I should also check with Wa. copyright laws as "infringement" may include the modification thereof....I'll just stick to lurking, as much as I respect perfection and authenticity (of which I believe Reo's truly are) I'm not the kind of person to leave well enough alone...

I'll see if I can get a bf only sub forum started...sorry to offend.

Oh boy if someone is offended by this discussion then well what can I say, I guess there are trained professionals able to help. I don't suppose we may be over-reacting to a couple of guys pimping their Reo's and giving everyone else a glimpse of what some creativity and hard work can do. Last time I looked traits like that were encouraged in life and not subdued.
Right behind you Quigs

Drat.... you read it before I could delete it...hey, I'm old and slow:D

After I reread about 10 times, I realized the error of my ways... but I wasn't quick enough to delete my post.

My apologies to you.

No offence taken, I just was worried that you misunderstood our intentions thats all. :)

Quigs you haven't offended me you never have . I dont have any problem with people posting pics of there modded reos or even your one off mods .
I envy you guys that have time to mod I cant get 10 minutes into a project and the phone is ringing or one of my guys asking me ?s .
Many of the mods that are done are things I wished I had time to do .
I would certainly never go at one of you guys for building a mod . I try to keep to unicorns and rainbows for the most part life is to short to get ruffled about such things .

If one was using my forum to build his own business that would be out of line

Perhaps you misunderstood, we don't sell anything, we're users just like yourself only difference is that we like to tinker and change things to make them unique. I take days to make something adding up to probably hundreds of hours of labor. I certainly won't turn round and sell it. This is all about making something beautiful and unique for us to cherish and enjoy.

I understand now...you talk too hifalutin for my peabrain...and i tend to suck on my toes, so to speak, while i'm conversing:D

First off, let me say that there have been times that i've been highly displeased at some of the non-Reo posts/threads here and have voiced that in certain threads. (Occasionally, i've been too vocal and i'm pretty sure Lisa has slapped my knuckles once or twice.)

But that displeasure usually involves someone going out of their way to hawk other mods or attys, or posting what they believe is a better mousetrap, hands down

That said, i've never found anything wrong about what Tcad, Quigs, and Capt (and some others) have posted, whether it's modding a Reo or an original mod. It's pretty clear you guys honor the Reo either way. It's fun and inspiring to see what such talented guys come up with. I appreciate the creativity, artistry and technical prowess, whether it's a mod or a patina'd door. And, 9 times out of 10, even Robert gets a kick out of it (as he posted above) since he's a modder at heart.

But, because of the "creep effect", it might make more sense to post original mods in another section, to prevent future ruffled feathers. Some day, someone not named Tcad, Quigs or Capt will cross the line. I, for one, would subscribe to that thread.

...I took some time to think about this and I've come to realize that my enthusiasm to share what I think are my successes may have gotten the better of me.

As always, thanks for the kind words Rob...but I believe SITS's is right, I have put you in an awkward position by suggesting what I did...in retrospect, this isn't some hobby you do for $&@ts and giggles...this is your livelihood and I lost sight of that.

Lastly, MamaTried nailed it (as eloquently as usual) in regards to the "creep effect"...Rob, while you say you don't take issue with peeps posting their non-Reo creations, and in your world of unicorns and rainbows...that would work...provided everyone had the same respect for the Reo product as I and others here obviously do, however, that may not always be the case...the last thing I'd want to see is this forum become some "free for all" ...the first time some hack posts an Altoids box with a 2A switch and an Efest saying he's gonna rock the SO cloud chasing world for a 1/4 of he price of a grand I'm gonna say, yup, I did that...yay me!

...bottom line, I'll continue to post modded Reo product only, and though I will not attack with the same vitriol or spout copyright law as some of you if someone posts something off colour...let's just say I get it...peace citizens of Reoville.

Thanks MamaTried for a very down to earth post that reflects all our sentiments. None of us intends to promote other mods here and we certainly don't plan to leave our careers to start mod making for a living.
As per ECF rules, if someone posts inappropriate material the moderators have the ability to delete the post. If someone simply doesn't want to see modifications then he has the choice not to click on the thread.
I really don't understand why all this controversy? What's the difference between someone doing patina on their Reo door vs someone dressing up a Reo in brass or wood? Both are Reo's.
As for the 'creep factor" I agree but again that's why ECF has moderators to deal with issues like this

well.... to be perfectly honest, the main reason i suggested the other forum for non-Reo stuff was cuz i didn't want to get b-slapped again by the mods :)

the mods do a great job (and i appreciate them), but it is best if we help keep them outta here...

I think the majority is quite the opposite and maybe you misread some responses here. We love seeing REO related modifications, it's the "non" REO that just wouldn't be well received by the masses here "in" the REO forum... You guys rock with the REO modifications, I myself would like to see what other ideas you have rolling around in your heads, but in the right forum, of course...

Well I wouldn't worry if there is anything wrong being posted. Besides Lisa monitoring the threads Rob has the Law Firm of Screwem, Hitmann & Berrium on retainer who also watches real close. You don't want to mess with those guys.

That's would be breaking one of the cardinal rules...peeps personal creations are not (nor will ever be) for sale...that's just wrong in so many ways...to extend that argument, Rob doesn't sell Buss automotive fuses peeps jam in place of his spring?, or pos. contacts made from brass feeler gauges, at one time Rob wasn't L/P'ing Grands/Minis (I did one years ago and never posted it for fear of massive blow back, and now?)...he also doesn't sell custom doors made of PC board and he doesn't sell square bottles...these mods are happening anyway, I'm just suggesting a little corner in Reoville for peeps to express their ideas

It would be for pure self builds only or modded Reos....absolutely no modded V mods or Boggers, no juice bottles taped to the side of a tube :)facepalm:)

I just think we're missing out on some of the most creativity a community can offer...nothing changes but you yourself may poke around in there and say "hmm, that's a good idea, bet I could do that)

This post has gnawed at me for a couple of days now, because the modifications you mention are now almost all catered for by Rob himself. But at the time they were not.

The fuse mod for instance was imo a fantastic exercise in lateral thinking, that improved a Reo, for people that vaped that low. In response we have the now standard gold contacts and springs that benefit every Reo user. Making new doors to personalise a mod is creative and you can now buy engraved doors/brass doors and so on from Rob himself.

What has happened is that people have opened their eyes to the possibilities of customising their Reos, in the full knowledge that the robust nature of it will allow them to do so and that if the improvement has enough merit, Rob is receptive enough to incorporate it into future sales.

All of these things make the Reos today better than they were 2 years ago and the people that thought of those modifications ought to be praised rather than denigrated. If you consider the fast moving pace of development in PV's, it's better to be on the topside of that curve. Who'd buy a Wetbox now apart from a collector?
