The beginning of three new PTs. Clones of one that has been in use a LONG time. Damn I hate cutting the meter rectangle. Wish I could just punch it out.

Ive been trying to find an easy way to do it. I just got a small drill press that my dremel attaches to. I'm hoping using a cutting bit and setting up a jig will do the trick.... Either that or it will rip the box to shreds. Ill keep you guys posted

You guys are looking at it all wrong...this is where your true inner artisan gets to shine...I've spent over an hour with a Dremel and a set of mini diamond files for a seamless, press fit hole to a tolerance of 1/10,000th...or, screw it, buck the hole in, black epoxy the meter in slightly raised above the box surface then sand it flush (for the "white" meter look, ;))...or then, for an even cooler look, paint the box after with a Krylon plastic spray-paint and ghost the meter...those LEDS will show through almost any colour but the darkest.

At my age I have little inner artisan left, and have to expect sloppy holes :p, as you say the light shines thru, have a lot of 400 mesh I no longer use and that makes a great cover with CA.

Staples to Offer Low Cost 3D Printing Service

3D printing system service to go mainstream. IDK costs. I probably doesn't do things like fine threads well, and I think it forms them out of plastic. However, it's interesting from a DIY perspective for all sorts of things. Beats having to have your own 3D printer (like Maker bot).

Custom boxes? Battery connector, button, switch and VOLTAGE METER holes made to order! Won't be offered in the US until at least after 1st quarter '13.

Should give me enough time to see if I can teach myself any of those drawing programs

I thought about popping in here and asking if there was some interest in designing a custom box and maybe see about getting a small co op going for an order through hammond or someone else that does customs, but we'd likely all have very different specs and ideas about what we want in that box, so back to dremels, whiskey and cockeyed cuts

Autodesk 123D - Free 3D Modeling Software, 3D Models, DIY Projects, Personal Fabrication Tools

I've been playing with this for a little while now. In still working my way through the learning curve, but I like it better than Sketchup.

123D is pretty good, Autodesk realized it had better throw something out there for free before they lost market share to a bunch of kids (future computer graphic designers?) to Sketchup. In some ways 123D is more intuitive but Sketchup's myriad of free 3rd party plugins (Sketchup is open source) including STL file import/export for 3D printing (which 123D does native). 123D will eventually catch up in the "free to the people" 3D design platform, they definitely have the guns, after all they did invent Autocad ...but they have to be careful not to have you constantly at the "if you want to do this you must buy our Pro version" wall or they'll lose traction.

good link Radar :)

"Very different specs"...nailed it, I mean my own specs change multiple times mid build...TC's link is where the vaping modders a couple yrs from now are going to rule...it's only a matter of time before someone comes up with a crazy cool mod that he had printed...and if someone else wants one, np, they just email the STL and a parts list and go nuts...I look at the tech my 19 yr old 2nd yr engineering student just completely takes for granted...the term "old school" is quickly becoming "ancient school"

I'm actually just throwing in the towel and going to wood bottom feeders, I almost don't even want to play any more, I suck
