Ah, it's the way it goes, like what am I going to do, send them back to HK  I mean it's not like they don't work, and the ammeter is spot on, I mean it's as accurate as my Fluke (a meter I could never afford btw, company expense cards rock! :D)

On an unrelated note, I spent a couple hours yesterday in Bellingham's (WA) Harbour Freight...finally got to see where a lot of you modder peeps get some of your gear...It's very similar to our Princess Auto or Canadian Tire up here in the great white north...but with a way more esoteric stock of stuff...a 10 pack of 1/4 diameter x 1/8 thick rare earth mags for $1.34? pfft, sold, in fact I'll take 2...I also got one of the visors with the interchangeable magnifying lenses with an LED light for $8...they also had this solid brass miniature sextant for $20, almost bought it, completely useless but come on?, haven't you always wanted a sextant?

poland, and the brassy lands of google
I gave the sextant pause too, no real chance to harvest parts from it for a mod, but all that brass... I think they had a few things similar to that. Couple of hours?! I get a max of 45 mins there, longer and I'd justify a larger purchase, something in the size of machinery maybe. They ought to rename to The Cool Tool Store.

I think Canadian Tire is something like Shucks Auto Parts perhaps?

Actually still have a sextant that we had to use on cross Atlantic and Pacific flights in the sixties and early seventies. In those days we only knew more or less where we were. So easy now with GPS.

Not so much as even that...Canadian Tire is one of those stores that's hard to pigeon hole and a Canadian enigma and has a not to bad signature tool line called MasterCraft (about the same quality as Sear's Craftsman)...as for the rest of the store, take a Lowe's and replace all the building materials with auto parts, air rifles and camping gear ...but Harbour Freight is definitely a Princess Auto...it's where you buy those types of tools that you'd use once in a blue moon, it'll be off-shore and of dubious quality but certainly good enough for the odd time you need it. I noticed the cross-slide vice they had was the exact same one I got a Princess auto, just re-branded.

Have never made a dual atty mod, but I usually vape two PTs, so why not. It even has a power on led.

Well I got my LM2596 boards in the mail the other day and decided to build a mod with one. I chose an Altoids tin to make it and I used 14500 batts.
Getting the boards turned out to be a pain cuz the ebay seller didn't pay the US shipping so I had to cough up the $6.12 to get them from the post office, I have sent them an email about it since it was advertised with free shipping. All I've gotten back so far is a reply asking me to rephrase the question as they are not able to understand what I was asking.. yeah go figure.. anyway.. on to the build..
This was SO fuggin easy compared to the other Altoids tins I have made using the parts from madvapes. I found a batt holder from RS for like $1.15, I glued it down in place, routed out the wiring, I chose to run the red lead thru the switch... I've seen others run the ground thru the switch but I'm not sure why, anyway this works just fine. I used a rubber grommet for the 510 connector and hot glued around the inside to hold it in place. the board is insulated from the tin using some double sided nonconducting PCB board tape I got from RS, it is very secure but can be removed if need be. The thing does work however I would appreciate any input from the pros here. Thanks!

Strange your shipping problem. I have purchased a least a hundred times from China and have never been charged in USA. International postage has to be paid in country of origin or it doesn't ship. They probably don't understand because it is impossible from their end, it was probably a USPS error.

Cool mod... congrat..

Looks fine.

FWIW I'm not a big fan of hot melt. The stuff I had if exposed to eliquid would eventually break the bond, and I always managed to get some leaking in around the connector. Even epoxy over the long haul will start to soften. The other thing is the connector can get quite warm with extended use, not hot melt friendly.

Yeah I thought it was kinda weird too on the postage, but they only had an address label on the package, no return addy, so I had to pay to get it out of the post office. Maybe for the next batch of boards I'll order from another ebay merchant, perhaps one of you could recommend a good one?

I thought about brazing the 510 connector to the top of the Altoids tin but the metal is so thin that I figured it'd just be a big mess before it was done. Any other ideas on securing the connector to the tin so it's solid?
