So I'm looking at these on eBay. My question that I'm sure has been answered though I haven't been able to find is about the amp rating. The green one seems to be good only to 2 amps, while the red says 3 amps. How important is this?

LM2596 DC Step-Down Adjustable Converter Power Module | eBay

The green one say max 3 amps with heat sink and that is for continuous use. With our intermittent use we don't need the heat sink. I have used at least 20 of the green ones in my mods, mostly because they are the smallest. Have not blown one yet.

Me and my wife use cgr18650s with them and no protection
Thought about gettin the 2cent fuse but never did

I do not use fuses in any of mine, the LM2596 has protection, and I usually have a master switch that turns everything off. I use 12 and 18V 5 amp power sources on my PTs and no problem.

Where did you get that awesome white box?

Looks like you used a router from the inside of the box to make a recess for the volt meter to shine through the box's side.

Very Nicely done.

Seems like a very awkward place to put a fire switch.

Even worse than this awkward position.

Wow, that's a blast from the past...ended up trading that for my SGV3...the box is black...the meter hole was cut, meter installed and epoxied so that it's face was raised "just" (like a 1/64th) above the the surface of the box...then I sanded the whole thing down first with 220 grit, then 400 (which also sands the black paint off the meter face) then just painted it white (over the meter, the whole works)...it actually worked out pretty good, but at the time, I had my doubts...

but in actuality that shouldn't be posted here...there's an OKR 6T in that not an LM2596

Regardless of what is in it, it is still a work of functional art.

I still want to know where you got the box. I think that it would be great mod project.

Thank you for your response

I decided to build a variable volt bottom feeder. My brother and I put this together this past weekend. We also did a passthrough basically the same design but with a 12v power cord for the car. We used LM2596's of course. The things vape like a dream. I found the blue LED volt meters on ebay from China. It's powered by a set of 18350's. The box is from RadioShack, the lid is held on with a set of magnets.

Nice job there, the blue LED voltmeter makes it quite awesome!

Quigs, on your xbox passthrough unit, did you cut the cord coming out of it and reuse the cable to the handheld portion? I got a dell laptop PS to use, hope to get to it soonish.

Nah, that cable (that runs from the Xbox to it's PSU) is way to bulky...on two of them I just use 16 awg speaker wire...and on the third, one of my guys at work gave me a chunk of Siamese power/control cable, it's got a 18 awg pair and a 24 awg pair in it...I can turn the PSU off/on from the PT...one of the nice features of using Xbox or ATX PSU's is the 5V standby power trigger.

Shoot, I gotta do a master switch too? I hadn't thought about that but probably a good idea, or I have to plug it in all the time. Very good point about the PSU cable, I'd rather use a CB style cable (if the gauge is good) or something sheathed in shoelace, could even be speaker wire. I've got a 1s -6s voltage meter, but I'd rather keep it for a travel battery meter than permanently install it anywhere.
