If you have an old laptop or printer power supply kicking around they're perfect...they're usually anywhere from 12 to 16v DC and in the case of laptop power supplies, can output 5A and up...they're just about perfect...then you can grab a glue gun and build this:

so I'm assuming the wall adapter would work?

Here again, depends on what the output is. If you have one you are considering using, what is the output? Voltage/amps?

You can pick up a 12V/2A very cheap on eBay. Also get the corresponding female DC jack. The plug on the end of the AC adapter is usually 5.5mm X 2.1mm or 5.5mm X 2.5mm. Whichever size you get, you need the corresponding size female DC jack.

It's an wall adapter for usb plugs. Output is 5V at 0.2 A

That won't cut it, the minimum specs of a wall adapter for an LM2596 PT are (at least what you're going to find out there):

Volts: 12V DC (must be DC, higher V is fine but no more than 24V, the LM2596's upper input V is 30V I believe but why push it)

Amps: 2A minimum, but shoot for 3-4A, in the world of adapters bigger "is" better...our gear will only take what it needs but you don't want to be operating your adapter at it's upper limit constantly, it'll just get hot and die an early death...just my opinion...

Well those are the specs I was looking for, lol. Thanx

50W 12V 4.16A Switch Power Supply Driver SPS AC100V-240V For LED strip lighting | eBay

Hows this for a desktop passthrough??

I also have a question, i'm in the process of designing a 2 (or 3) 18650 vv box using the lm2596. I think i have the wiring down except for the voltage indicator. I want to use a 3 position on off on switch to display batt voltage and regulated voltage. im planning on having a master on off switch on the positive side and the fire button on the negative. Can i just run a + wire from the master switch to one on position of the 3 way switch and run another + wire from the same position of the master switch to the lm? would i do the same with the + out of the lm to the 3 position switch and to the + of the atomizer connection?? AHHH I'm rambling, ill draw a picture of what i mean

Now that's a power supply!...that'll work careful on those exposed AC terminals...

As for the V meter switching, I think this is right...

Schematic.jpg...a little hard to see, sorry
