just got an e-cig

I was wandering around my local mall this evening... saw a 21 century smoking kiosk, tried one of their samples and ended up buying the starter kit. got the blackjack kit with monte carlo cartridges. seems to be very close to a comventional cigarette.... only thing is sometimes it doesnt make as much smoke as other times. salesperson said I need to get used to it but there is a 10 day return period if i dont like it. looks like it will be a much cheapr way to smoke since cook county and illinois just raised the taxes on conventional cigarettes again. if i can get the same type of dra every time this will be ideal. anyone have any tips for a newcommer?

Tip one. Shop. The ECF supplier page is where you should start. Chances are you paid about $100 for thirty dollars worth of equipment and supplies.
Tip Two. The more it actually looks like a cig the less performance it will be capable of. This is where you need to decide if you HAVE to have a small discrete unit or you Could be ok with a larger(sharpie sized maybe) better performing device.
Tip Three. Read, Learn, Ask. Comments here are pretty forthright. We are all ex or want to be ex smokers. We all will try our best to point you in the direction you are looking to go. We do not get paid for doing this we are here on our own will to help our fellow man (unisex).
Tip D. Do your best to not be discouraged. Theres a Sea of information available to you here, Stick in your toe to see if its ok is pretty normal.
I began with an over priced under performing unit and stopped a 2 1/2pack habit. I smoked for over 20 years. There where some rough spots but looking back I feel proud to know that no matter how expensive that first device was, it gave me the ability to stop smoking. I now can say its been almost 2 years since my last analog and I have no desire to return to them either.
Hope to see you around. Good Luck. Happy vaping.:)

Welcome and congrats on taking the first big step in becoming tobacco free. You have started in the same place many of us did. In truth though, it is not the best start. Many attempts at replacing tobacco with vaping fail with the kiosk e-cigs. Don't want you to fall into this group. It is totally understandable that the first place to start is with a cigarette look-alike. But, they rarely provide the satisfaction sought. I think you'll find that the real pro's here will recommend something that does not so much resemble a real cig, but that delivers what you need to drop the cigarettes. Take a look at the crystal clear vaping website for a Kgo or E Power kit. They don't look like cigarettes, but they are much better than the kiosk e-cigs and cost a lot less. Hopefully, you can buy one of these in time to return the kiosk product. Your prospects of replacing cigarettes with vaping will be much better. If it is important to you to have a cigarette loo-alike, at least look at the V2. A quick search here should identify good vendors. They are much better than the kiosk product and are available at better prices. Your next big decision will be juices that suit you This forum is a wealth of knowledge in helping you zero in on something that will please you.

Again, welcome to ECF. Don't hesitate to ask questions. This is the most helpful place on earth!

Hello, welcome and congrats on deciding to make the switch. :)I'm not going to add to the above 2 posts other than to advise you to look at how long the person making suggestions has been a member here. You're going to be flooded with advice, but those who've been around here for awhile will do their best to stir you in the right direction.
Good luck

I did a quick look at their website and I didn't see any kits for over $30, so you were overcharged. Plus, if you have a three part e-cigarette, they are considered outdated and not many people would recommend them. Return it to the kiosk, you can get a good quality kit for the same price or less than what you paid. If you're willing to go a little bigger, I'd recommend the KGO or the e-power, you can get a kit for about $50-$60. However, if you want a small battery, I'd choose smokeless image over v2. The quality is just as good if not better, and the price is a lot lower. Wherever you decide to buy, look for a coupon code, most places have them.

If you're using a kit with one battery, you might find it hard to stay off the cigs while it's charging. Charging time for cig-a-like batteries can take a few hours and give you a few hours of use. Also, no matter what the vendor says, a cartridge does not equal a pack or pack and a half of cigarettes. It equals about 6 or 7 cigarettes according to people who have been vaping for some time.

If it's important for you to have something cig-like, then I would highly recommend Smokeless Image. I used their 78mm Volts exclusively for about 6 months and was very happy with them. (Until I ran out of supplies during a high stress time and bought cigs again). The standard starter kit with 2 batteries is only $44.95 Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Starter Kits SIVOLT50 will give you a 15% discount.

There are of course a LOT of options if you're not particularly looking for something cig-like. I'm not an expert on those. I use the bigger batteries from Smokeless Image because they work with all the cartomizers I have stockpiled. LOL Don't feel like you have to jump in head first. Starting to vape rather than smoke is a personal journey. Do what you're comfortable with. It would be hard to spend as much on vaping supplies over a year as you would on cigarettes anyway.

The fact that you have found this site is a big step toward your success. Many people who start out buying retail crap end up being less than impressed and give it up. It's worse here in Canada since they sell you expensive crap and they aren't allowed to sell anything with nicotine in them. So as you might imagine this only serves to turn people off to vaping big time. 10 bucks for a disposable with a couple ml's of no nic juice, then you gotta spend another 10 bucks to buy another one. So no matter how much of a ripoff the store stuff is in the states it's nothing compared to this :)

The good stuff is what you order online though wherever you are from and don't give up before you try some of that :)

I gotta say, maybe not all kiosks. I started out with a Volcano Inferno-T, which was great - and only around $80. Volcano is getting kiosks all over CONUS, with most of the line-up (from what I hear). I dont know how far you are from Lombard, but their fb page might interest you
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Volcano-Electronic-Cigarettes-Lombard-Illionois/387581477946056

The Volcano Inferno is basically an eGo which is a kit you can get at many places for around $40. While they do sell decent stuff - their prices are very high. An eGo style kit is a great starting point though and it may be all you need. I have "better" PVs but I still carry my eGo clone to work every day. An example of a decent kit is here, the 2nd kit on the page with 900 mah batteries is a good place to start - it's what I carry every day:

Hello Stormchaser and welcome to the site. congrats on taking that step to get off the ciggy's!! It can be so overwhelming and scary, but you can do it. Please don't take any of the advice given personally, the only goal of all the advice given so far is to help you have success in your new journey.
I am also new here and have just ordered my first personal vaporization (vp) kit from an online supplier. I was so confused, but kept coming back to this site! I looked, lurked, laughed and cried over all that I read, but in the end I was able to come up with what seems to be a good and affordable starting vaping plan.
Just keep coming back, the people here will give you all the help you need:)

first a big gratz on making the big step a real good choice im new here as well and following the well worn track of "need another kit now and its only been 9 days " i can only echo the comments so far
i started with a look a like ciggy now waiting delivery of a riva 510 ( that has function over form ) not a ciggy look a like but will be closer to the real ciggy experience you may find that you get lost in a sea of information with strange numbers ,odd terminolgy, electrical saying volts amps ohms etc dont panic
these bodys in ecf are probably the best sat nav you will find to navigate the maze of options
dont give up and best of luck on finding whats right for you :)

I'm going to agree with Jen. If you are looking for something that looks like a cigarette, get a volt from smokeless image. I would return that product and look at the volt. You don't want a 3 piece system either. That's old technology

The volt is a cig look a like but carries a nice punch. The batteries last about 3 hours. The cartomizers are awesome and can be refilled several times. Refilling a carto will cost you about 20-30 cents as opposed to buying new ones at $1.85. They also have the best customer service around with fast shipping. If you ask around, most veterans who don't even like mini e cigs will tell you if you are getting a mini, get a volt

You can get a kit for half the cost of the mall ecig, and it will be a much better product. They have a 15% off coupon that I can send you too if you are interested.

A race against time - it's best to get a replacement before taking the kiosk one back, it will be so disappointing for you to have to have tobbacco cigs whilst waiting for a new kit. I was in this situation fir a couple of days and used disposable ones, which are not very good, just about managed it but it was harder than it could have been!!!!! Well done on dropping tobbacco, stick with it :) PS I am a newcomer. Only been vaping for 3 weeks, but after smoking 30 tobbacco cigs a day for 29 years!!!!

Wow! didn't expect so much good advice so soon, I will be checking out some online sites. looks like the volt or ego may be a good choice. funny thing is i kinda figured out if i try to take two draws on it at once it seems to give off more vapor?... maybe thats the difference....

Ah yes, the 'Primer Puff'

A short primer puff gets the atomizer hot, so that you can do a long pull with max vapor from start to finish... I've been using manual batteries so long, I forgot all about that!

Happy Vaping!
