So I just got me a new Riva in the mail today! Woohoo! However, unfortunately so far I seem to be having some issues. In fact right now I am using a 510 to 901 thread adapter on it and using my 808 cartos with a drip tip stuck in the end of the carto. It does hit fairly well in this configuration and I have been using the same battery all night which is awesome.

I was however really excited to get to try dripping with the Riva. That's why I bought the drip tip. I only ordered the thread adapter because as cheap as they are I just figured if I'm going to own both models I might as well go ahead and buy the adapter.

The problem I am having with the Riva attys and dripping is a disgusting harsh burnt taste. I have done a little reading and discovered this is probably due to primer. I do not know how to get the primer off though. I tried to just suffer through it and add more juice and at one point it quit producing vaper at all. Then I tried filling one of the carts it came with and using that which actually did work somewhat but it's still harsh and not producing vapor like it should.

I geuss my question is: How should I proceed from here??

Yeah it's primer. new attys of any kind almost always have primer.

One way:

blow out atty into a tissue.
primer the bridge /\ with a couple of drops of juice and let it soak down to the coil
vape out without inhaling

repeat all 3 steps

Now prime again and see how it tastes - if still tastes bad, repeat the steps

Alternately you could try to burn it off but you could kill an atty. if you want to try that, don't point it at you face. Into a mirror might be good so you can see it. Blow if out. Then hold the button for no more than 4 second or stop sooner if you hear crackles or see vapor/smoke come off the atty. Do several times but stop if you se it turning orange or it isn't making vapor.

Just curious, why can't you have it aimed at your face?

because aiming at your crotch makes you feel alive!

lol...sorry, had to

Im a noob but my guess is it can pop out and now there is metal melted to your face

lol.   Not sure about metal but yes, it could spit something at you. Rare but evidently it has happened. To the op: I usually clean with H2O (hydrogen peroxide). It's easy and does a good job. Lots of folks don't like the though of it because they worry about vaping a little of the residue but actually H2O turns to water when heated.

Also, if you aren't getting any vapor, and getting a harsh burnt taste, you might have vaped your atty dry too, those are all signs that there isn't any juice in the atty. Heres how I clean out my attys.
I first blow them from the top down to the thread end, with something to catch the juice on the thread end (TP, or paper towels), then I put like 5-10 drops of some boring juice in it, like my tobacco juice and blow that through like I did the primer. Now your atty is cleaned out, and it is pretty dry too (depending on how hard you blew). I then put four drops of whatever I want to drip into it and let it sit in my hand for a minute or two, so it will all soak into the atty, it might leak a little out, that's why I wait too, in case I flooded it, it will just drain out and not be flooded anymore. Then when I'm done vaping that, I put 2-3 more drops in and VAPE again. Three will sometimes leak, two never will.
Good luck!

I had this same problem and found that if i soaked it in warm water and swill around for few minutes before blowing out contents did help a bit. I'm surprised you having this prob with atties Riva supplied as most of the new OEM atties that come inside the kit don't have the primer on, unlike replacement non oem atties which deffo need a good blow and a few drops of spare liquid to dilute the primer fluid. Good luck.

Re face and burning off attys - yes hot juice (or worse on used attys - hot little chips of dried juice) can explode off the atty. One guy got hit in the eye. So it's best not to point it at your face.

I got my Riva yesterday. I still have to deal with the attys and primer. So far all I've done is charge the batteries and brought one to work but just using my std resistance cartos on it. My LR ones are in the mail. I need a way to mark those so I don't stick them on my slim 510 batteries.

When I get done using my LR attys, I put them in a little zip lock baggy that is marked LR. I only have 3 different ones, and only one looks like the regular resistance, hence the baggy. It has helped me so far, although I found I like my Boge LR better then my East Mall LR atty, the east mall hits like a normal atty to me. But then again I need to invest in one of those electric tester thingamajigs, for all I know they messed up and sent me the wrong one, they did that with the drip tips.

I ordered Boge LR cartos. But they are going to look exactly like the Boge SR cartos I use on my slim 510. And I am ALREADY screwing up since I put a Boge black carto on my KR808D-1 too. That one is supposed to be my vanilla and I previously used a white V4L Coolcart and my black was always the cocoa tobacco on the 510. Twice already I screwed up and put cocoa in my vanilla carto. I need paint pens or something. But I worry if I would even look!

I wish Boge would make colored cartos.

Started with an Ego-t kit and really liked it except the fooling but still going strong after a month. Bought a Riva kit to try plus I'd have some more batteries. I've run quite a bit of juice through the 510 but the flavor isn't there compared to the ego. Is this normal? Tons of vapor but no flavor...except menthol which I don't like. Any suggestions

Which one aren't you getting as much flavor from, the Riva or ego-T? Is it your own juice in the Riva or prefilled carts?

The ego-t has plenty of flavor. The Riva tastes muted in comparison. I put my own juice in the carts and even tried dripping to see if it helped. Dripping was better but still not quite what I would say is acceptable. For comparison...I vape mostly caramel tobacco atm, I cant taste any caramel with the Riva. With the Ego-t the flavor comes out. I don't know...maybe its operator error.

I don't know, I'm not an expert or anything and it's hard to describe. With the tank, to me the vape was cooler and you got a little more of the actual taste of the juice so I agree with you about that. I didn't mind the cooler bit because I vape menthol so I sort of liked that part. With the Riva or ego without the tank I got a 'stronger' vape I guess you could say. That was my experience. A lot of people say the taste is muted with the tank.

It's like comparing apples and pizza if you are comparing them with different attys and different vaping methods. Their batteries should be near identical voltage-wise (depending on how freshly charged one is versus the other - batteries run a bit stronger right off the charger). You are comparing a tank on a standard resistance (?) atty to dripping on an LR atty?
