Okay, so I posted here a couple of weeks ago asking for advice for a noob that wants to go from tobacco to ecigs, and got a ton of great advice. I spent a few days asking questions, and finally ordered a kit. I got 2 generic 1100mah ego batteries, 2 stardusts, 5 boge LR cartos, a kanger T2 clearo, 2 vision extreme clearos, and a 30ml bottle of RY4.

What can I say? I'm BLOWN AWAY. To be honest, I don't really like the ejuice I got, but the vendor I ordered my kit from had a limited selection (I've got 7 other juices coming in 10ml sample sizes, they just won't be here until next week unfortunately). Everyone said that most people will have to try a few times to find one they can "all day vape", and while this one is OK, I know I will be able to find something more suited to my taste with a little experimentation.

All that said, I had a couple of tobacco cigs this morning before the mail came and haven't had one for about 10 hours now (I'm a 1.5 pack/day smoker BTW). This thing is amazing - I can't overstate that. Also, I'm a bit bummed b/c my kanger won't work so I can't try it out (it won't screw on the threads all the way for some reason - it was a labour day free gift so I'm not going to complain), but I'm stoked about the rest of it.

I'm more confused than ever about why these things aren't HEAVILY promoted by governments/doctors as an alternative to smoking. My goal is to slowly reduce my nic level over the next 6 months to a year, and then just keep vaping for fun if I'm still into it. I've tried the patch, inhalers, gums, pills, you name it and I've tried it. I've managed to quit smoking for 1+ year at a time using those products, but I've NEVER experienced a product that let me just put down tobacco like this before. Even taking willpower into account, those other products were hard to adapt to. This is a totally different ballgame.

If anyone who is trying to quit smoking is still wondering if vaping is a viable alternative, do not hesitate to try it. Total game changer.

Finally, A HUGE THANKS to everyone who helped me pick the right kit to start out with. It didn't break the bank, and I have plenty of options. I never would have been able to figure this out without ECF, and probably would have ended up with a disappointing, overpriced gas station no-nic ecig that would have put me off the whole idea forever without you.

The FDA is an industry captive agency. Big pharma would not be pleased to lose their current sales for competing products so I don't expect to see any FDA enthusiasm for meaningful studies.

I couldn't agree more that vaping is the easiest way to quit smoking. I'm only a week in but have yet to crave a cigarette.

Congrats!

The thing is, I'm not American, I'm Canadian. With our healthcare system smoking costs taxpayers million (billions?) of dollars/year, so you'd think they'd be all over anything that could help people move off tobacco. It's a mad mad world where big money is involved.

Big Tobacco companies have billions of dollars to spend. E-cig companies do not. That would be my guess why they are not promoted more. Politicians are easily bought. Congrats on the purchase! You will want a vv mod before you know it! I made it 4 days on my normal ego until I went and bought 2 ego twists! I've got my eye on a provari now.

Agreed. I'm with you on already wanting a VV device. I don't really know why I want it, but I like to experiment and tinker with things so it just seems like the right thing to do. I'm going to jump right to a Pro-vari level device. Even when I first ordered I was thinking about how my next purchase (how crazy is that? Thinking about the next one before even trying the first!) would be an eGo twist. Now that I know this is a hobby/way-to-quit-smoking that I will enjoy I'm just going to save myself all the intermediate spending and jump right to something top of the range.

I'm one of those guys that smokes A LOT but actually hates smoking. I'm embarrassed when I have to go out for a cigarette, I hate smelling like cigarettes, I hate myself for not being able to just quit them. I'm taking the mindset that vaping is a new hobby rather than just a way to quit smoking. A nice side effect of my new hobby is that it's going to be something that takes cigarettes out of my life. It's actually pretty crazy to me when I think about it, but it all adds up so I'll go with it :).

Hey, there. My friend and I just got our kits today! Yours sounds pretty fancy (and awesome!)-- we just started with ego-Cs for simplicity's sake, plus a ton of small bottles as samplers from Jugheads.co.

Unfortunately I have a bit of a flu so none of the juices are really agreeing, but otherwise I am pretty amazed. Can't believe the throat hit/intensity (especially Halo Torque). I was kind of expecting it to be too tame. Honestly, my first thought after I took the first hit was, it's no wonder the big pharmaceutical companies and government don't want us to have these things. The tobacco/smoking cessation biz would be dead in the water. For me, it seems like nothing short of a miracle. A "totally different game", as you said. And it's only my first day.

Best of luck, rob79! We should check in on each other once in awhile, see how the other is doing. Cheers -

Hey wrenfisher, hope you get over that flu soon! Neocitran cold-and-sinus is amazing BTW, not only does it not taste too bad (well, it doesn't taste too bad if you can't taste properly LOL) but it will also knock you out so you can sleep through the worst of it :). I'm on the easy coast so it's not flu season yet, just hurricane season :|

That being said, I was looking on jugheads.co a couple of days ago and plan to order from them next time around, some of their stuff sounds awesome. Let me know what you like/don't like once you're feeling better. I ordered my juices from canadaejuice.com - good prices for someone just starting out.

Yeah, my starter kit is AWESOME, I got it from canvape.com so it was easy as. I realized after I made the post that it was a little misleading - the eliquid and cartos weren't included for free, I bought them extra. Also, the kanger T2 was a free labour day give away, so that's not normally part of the kit. Either way, still an awesome deal IMO and Tom over there is great to talk to (he'll answer any questions you email about right away normally, and he was really honest with me as a first timer about what I should buy. He actually recommended against me buying a more expensive 808 kit since I was a noob and I would have just wanted to go back for more in a week - that's the kind of service I want but don't expect from ANYWHERE).

As for the actual "throat hit" thing, I was worried too, but it's totally the same/better than a tobacco cig.

Yeah. Let's keep in touch about this, as people who started on the same day it could be fun to talk about our progression and stuff. I'll add you to my friend list here (if there is such a thing) :).

Take care!

Congrats to you, your friend, and rob79.

I, too, was amazed from the start. I've had cravings, sure, some very brutal ones. But all in all it's been much easier to quit tobacco than I thought it would be.

I've had cravings, sure, some very brutal ones.

Before I started vaping I read that it does not provide the quick nicotine hit that smoking cigarettes do so I planned accordingly. I made it a point to take at least a couple of drags from my e-cig every ten or fifteen minutes to try to keep my nicotine levels from dropping to the point I needed a quick nicotine hit. I carried my e-cig around with me like a security blankie for the first 2 to 3 days.

Also, I normally use 18mg strength juice but an hour before bedtime and an hour after I get up I vape 24mg juice to make up for nicotine levels dropping while sleeping. I haven't had cravings nor gotten sick from too much nicotine. Different strategies work for different people but this worked for me as a 2+ PAD smoker.

I read that too - about how the nicotine absorption is different. It's like tobacco is like an immediate hit whereas ejuice is more of a slow-release. I didn't know what nic level to order so I went with 18mg, and I was worried that it would make me sick if I vaped enough to satisfy my hand-to-mouth habit. So far so good though. That being said, when I used a nicotine inhaler in the past (god those things are gross BTW) I *did* make myself sick from time to time by overusing it. I think the fact that I actually see "vapour" coming out of my mouth when using the ecig is tricking my brain somehow.

Good advice on the 24mg to get a "big hit". I might actually adopt your stratagy if tomorrow morning is rough and order some 24mg on my next order since the 18mg. You're a smart cookie.

We ordered from Canvape, too! I agree with everything you said about Tom, and we also got a free Kanger. Other folks around here have said that Canvape and Jugheads are two of the best vendors in Canada, so we feel pretty lucky to have nailed it the first time around. (Of course we couldn't have done it without ECF.)

My friend (conflator on ECF) has been vaping since we got the kit this afternoon, and says he feels totally sated. I had a fun round trying out some juices, but since then I've been smoking the "stinkies" (as people around here like to call them). As I said, I'm feeling pretty rotten and just not in the mood to alter my routine. BUT-- tomorrow I'm going to start with the vape with my coffee and go from there. I've actually read from a few people here that if you start the day with vaping it's easier to stick with it.

All of that said, I was feeling pretty jealous of Conflator with his vaporizer as I sat there stinking up the air with my analog. I agree it's really gross and embarrassing and I hate it, as well. I've just had such a hard time getting off the damn things.

But maybe there's hope for us both, now, huh? I can't tell you how happy that would make me.

I didn't know you could make "friends", here. That's great! You are my very first friend at ECF.

Neocitrin really is great. Unfortunately I have none in stock and small town Alberta shuts down pretty early. I will have a glass of wine instead.

Stay away from those hurricanes. I hear they can't be trusted.

Have fun and keep me posted!

LMAO - no, hurricanes most definitely can't be trusted. Swirling this way and that way, you never know what they're going to get up to next :).

As for small town Alberta and the streets rolling up at 7PM - I know all about that. I lived in Athabasca for a few years, and it SUCKED. No offence to any Albertans, it's a beautiful place, but my opinion as someone who grew up in a more densely packed province is that there is nothing to do in small town Alberta. I mean, you can't even get a Tim Hortons coffee or a Big Mac unless you want to invest in a 4 hour round-trip commute LOL.

Also yeah, canvape rocks. Heard good things about jugheads too.

Finally, yeah, if I can make the switch you can for sure. I didn't go in with the mindset "I'm having this instead of a cigarette", I just was thinking "This is cool and fun!". I didn't even put pressure on myself to not smoke tobacco, heck I've got 3/4 of a pack sitting next to me right now and I haven't had one practically all day! I just feel satisfied by this fun new device I have, so why bother with the tobacco?!

I love it, actually. Almost all of my life since I was a kid I've lived in various urban downtown cores. I thought I'd always be a big city girl. But after my stint in Ottawa (living just off Rideau St near the university) I'd had it. Last year I came back to search for my perfect haven of peace and solitude. I think I may have found it in a little town near Red Deer. Although I have only been here 3 months... we'll see! It certainly does take some getting used to. Wintering on an acreage in the woods south of Ponoka was my crash course. This place feels like a metropolis in comparison.

I've always wanted to visit the east coast. Never been further east than Ontario (within Canada, anyway), so it's hard wrap my head around the idea of hurricanes. Tornados? Definitely. Athabasca - I've heard it's nice. Too far north for me, though.

Finally, yeah, if I can make the switch you can for sure. I didn't go in with the mindset "I'm having this instead of a cigarette", I just was thinking "This is cool and fun!". Well, I woke up too early (for a Saturday) and I'm still in bed. Don't want to get up because it means I'll start thinking about that cigarette. As you can see, I'm already putting pressure on myself with all of this head chatter. I need to relax, put it out of my head. It really is sort of a cool, fun thing, so it's not like I have to lie to myself.

Here I go, off to make some coffee.

Happy vaping! :)

So how did it go so far this today? When I woke up today I grabbed my eGo while the coffee was brewing and basically chain vaped for about 10 minutes straight. I definitely didn't get that "hit" that I get off a first cig of the day, but by the time I'd made my coffee and grabbed the paper I wasn't having any kind of major craving like I would have expected. Now, almost 4 hours later, I just sat down at the computer and I'm feeling fine. I'm still kinda freaked out by this. I went in with high, but realistic expectations, telling myself "If you want a cigarette, have one, don't beat yourself up over it...". Well, 24 hours later I haven't wanted one bad enough that I've actually lit one. So weird!

Big tobacco is very powerful, they are slowly getting into the e-cig industry and they will eventually make a big splash once this gets a little bigger and everything will change so enjoy it now! I love to vape and try new things all the time because for the most part things a fairly cheap compared to the $10.50 a pack of cigs in NYS. Good luck with quitting, I have been smoke free for 3 months after 20 yrs of smoking a pack and a half a day!

This was definitely a big consideration for me too. Smoking is just too expensive. It's $14.50 for a pack here, and goes up every year it seems. For me, that was $20+/day for tobacco, so it was just ridiculous. At $20-$30/week (once you get your initial batteries and stuff) for ejuice and maintenance it just seemed like a no-brainer. So happy I tried it.
