Thanks for the kind words! You were one of the ones that helped me decide what to order, so thanks for that :).

Yeah, I gotta know this story, too!

@rob79 - I think we started the same day! I'm now officially 24 hours without a cigarette, and it hasn't been like I've been feeling like I'm missing out on anything. Had a bit of time today when I was getting that tight-headed feeling I get when I've gone too long without a smoke, but after a few good vapes everything was back to OK.

I'm with you - there's been a couple of moments when I thought I should have a cig, but there hasn't been a moment when I didn't pick up my PV because I preferred it. I am completely sold, and loving it.

And, I just got back from the local where they not only knew what a PV was, but they were perplexed as to why I was asking if they minded if I vaped. A beer, a vape and some writing all at once. Yeah, heaven.

I'm still waiting :p

Congrats on your 24 hours - not bad eh? I was just talking to a friend of mine who knows me as a chain smoker and she couldn't believe that I wasn't A) Smoking or B) CRANKY :p

E-Cigs are (to a smoker) the best thing since bacon double cheeseburgers IMO.

Damned awesome, in fact :)

I've been about 1/2PAD lately, pack on weekend nights. Has been more in the past. Tried to quit a few times, even made it six months once, but never, ever have I put down analogs for more than a few hours without getting seriously cranky.

Now I don't even want them? I'm feeling a little evangelical about it all. I vote better than bacon double cheese :)

It's so weird. I would make my friends pull the car over so I could get out and have a cig if the drive was more than an hour long. Now, here I am, 36 hours later, without even thinking about smoking. Boggles the mind. E-Cigs are literally a 1:1 replacement for tobacco but without the bad stuff. It's almost like "I can't believe it's not butter!" if margarine was as satisfying as butter :p.

I was like you 5 months ago and still smoked 20 cigs a day and vaped at the same time but as the weeks went by I found I was reaching for my E-Cig more than my smelly's. It was not my intention to give up smoking but to use the E-Cigs in places I was not allowed to smoke. Now 5 months later I have totally given up analog cigs. Glad you are enjoying the journey.

I was the same way. If we went anywhere on a trip, every 1.5-2 hours we'd have to pull over for a smoke break, which for long trips, just added to the time....especially adding in time that I had to air out.

Great to hear so many good stories.

I see you've only got a couple of posts, so I assume you're still wondering if you can make the switch. I'm still really new, so feel free to ignore me, but honestly: This is something I wish I'd tried a LONG time ago. Get a starter kit, ANY starter kit, and give it a try. You won't regret it!

So how did it go so far this today?

Conflater reports he hasn't had a cig since yesterday afternoon. Not only that, he's really loving his new toy. He even took it to the local pub!

As for me-- ask me tomorrow? :) I blame this bug I've got. My throat is swollen so I haven't been smoking much, but I've been using analogs when the craving gets to be too much. I'm not going to beat myself up over it. Just not the right day is all.

I just realized how silly it must sound: a sore throat as justification for smoking. :/

How did your day go?

EDIT: I also feel silly for talking about conflator as if he wasn't here. Sorry, man. I didn't see you come in!

I get it - smoking while sick. Also, I can see why it would be a bad time to switch - it's not as comforting if that makes sense.

That being said, if I were you I would not even think about your new toy until you felt better, then just try it out, and use it A LOT (I'm vaping more than I ever smoked - 18mg juice) for the first couple of days. I haven't had a full cig since we talked yesterday. I had a puff off of one earlier, even thought I didn't feel like it, just to see if I would feel like I was missing anything. Short story long, I didn't feel like I was missing anything at all. This ecig thing is amazing, even if it had cost $1000 it would have been worth it (VENDORS - DON'T GET ANY IDEAS LOL).

If you hate smoking, but are addicted to cigs, vaping is, as I said yesterday, a revelation. You get all the satisfaction that you do from cigs, but without the bad stuff. 'Nuff said.

You know what's nice? Vaping in bed with my tea and the internet. Yep, I started! Took a vape instead of my morning smoke (around 7am), then about an hour later thought I needed a cig. Smoked half of it and felt ill, so I put it out. Had a full cig at 11am, and that was the last one. So it's been 10 hours!

What I'm finding really interesting (and challenging) is determining if I vaped enough to get a nice nic hit. With cigs it was sort of a given that I'd feel sated for awhile after one. I have to *really* pay attention to how I'm feeling. Conflator says it takes longer for the nicotine to hit its mark, which I suppose is why I'm having a bit of trouble knowing when to stop.

Also have to get used to the dry mouth. It's a little unpleasant, but I can't imagine how it can possibly be more unpleasant that taking in burning, chemical-y tobacco. It's no wonder the taste buds die.

Apart from that, I feel really good about it. This evening I've had zero urge to go outside for a smoke, even though at one point I was feeling a big wiggy like I hadn't had enough nicotine. This vaping thing really does grow on you.

And you... well, you are doing FANTASTIC. Congrats! And thanks for taking the time to share. Between you and Conflator, I have all of the inspiration I need. :)

AWESOME! I've actually been wondering how you've been doing (as my one and only official ECF friendlister LOL). I *STILL* haven't had a cig since noon on friday. I really can't believe it, I'm super proud of myself to be honest.

Like you, I'm never sure if I'm vaping enough. I'm scared I'll overdo it and make myself sick, or under-do it and make myself desperate for tobacco. Like conflator said, it does take longer to get the nic into your system, but it stays in longer too. Just pay attention to how you are feeling and if you have a craving vape like crazy for 5 minutes. If you over-do it, you won't feel like vaping again until you're craving again. That's been my experience at least.

I've had a sore throat the last couple of days, so I've cut back but then I suddenly wanted a cig so I just sucked it up (took an advil and sucked on some antiseptic lozenges I had left over from last winter when I had a bad throat infection - they kinda numb your throat). Sore/dry throats are normal (apparently) for people who quit smoking cold turkey, so I'm staying optimistic that vaping is not the cause. If you have any weird side effects, read this thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...hen-quitting-tobacco-changing-ecigarette.html before assuming it's your ecig that's causing them. I was ready to say "This thing is making me feel terrible!" before I read that, now I know that my symptoms are just normal for anyone who quits smoking, using any method.

If you ever, EVER, want to talk about this stuff let me know. Conflator sounds like a smart guy, but sometimes it's good to have a second opinion from a stranger. Trust me, if I fall off the wagon for some reason I'll just tell you why. Is it fair for me to assume that I can ask you for the same honesty/support?

Have a good one!

EDIT: Just something I wanted to add. Personally, I *really* wanted to quit tobacco. Like I said, I was embarrassed to be a smoker. Not only did I hate being one of only 2-3 people in my friend crew to smoke, my father died of cancer in 2006 (when I was 26). Every cigarette I smoked made me feel like an idiot, and the fact that I couldn't quit even thought I knew exactly where I would end up in 40 years (dead) made me feel like I had no willpower. I've actually cried, more than once, when I talk about cigarettes. People reading this will probably think "this guy is crazy", but I'm not. I've managed to be successful, against all odds, in most aspects of my life. Cigarettes just had a hold on me like nothing else. I've often said: "Cigarettes are the glue that keeps me stuck together". I said that because every time I quit I felt like I was falling apart, in some weird emotional way that is hard to describe. Vaping might just be the thing that will let me live ten years longer than I ever expected to. I won't know if that's true for another 30-40 years (hopefully), but I know for sure, right now, that I'm doing better today than I was 3 days ago.

I have found the people here very helpful in all areas.

I had no idea about anything on e-cig and I can say that all I know now is from here. There is more information here than I can ever take. And specific forum for suppliers makes it all the more easier to get more info on their specific products on how they perform and also the specs that are missing from their website description.

My advice is buy anything, if you haven't already. Sure, if you make the wrong choice you will be back in a week, but you'll still be better off (and probably even save money since cigs are so expensive). Good luck!

That's been conflator's experience, too, pretty much. It makes sense.

You know, I'm used to feeling crappy pretty much all the time due to smoking, so I'm not going to fret over any little symptoms. In the past it's been relatively easy for me to quit for a few days because the physical withdrawal doesn't phase me much. (Unfortunately I have a huge psychological attachment to cigarettes which makes the long haul too tough to even contemplate trying, or so says my frustration.) I guess what I'm saying is that I'm pretty tough when it comes to that stuff. :) Also, I accept that there's pain involved in this process, and hey, you know what? I bloody well deserve it!

If you ever, EVER, want to talk about this stuff let me know. Conflator sounds like a smart guy, but sometimes it's good to have a second opinion from a stranger. Absolutely! I will do my best, anyway. ;)

EDIT: Just something I wanted to add. Personally, I *really* wanted to quit tobacco. Like I said, I was embarrassed to be a smoker. Sorry about your dad. And I can certainly relate to your frustration, although I may not suffer emotionally quite as much as you do. It could be that I'm older than you and jaded. :) The thought of being free of it fills me with immense joy, however. I look forward to feeling more in control of my life. Apart from the health effects, that's probably the part that bothers me the most-- being at the mercy of an addiction. I'm a strong-willed person, generally. I hate that there's this THING that has so much power over me that despite my good sense I still can't say no.

My mom's a big smoker, and her health just keeps getting worse. Her chest wheezes palpably when she breathes. She's tried every stop smoking aid there is-- except this one. So I'm doing this for her as well as me. I plan on introducing it to her this weekend, when I go up for a visit.

Update: I had a cigarette this morning, but I have no inclination to have any more today. The early morning coffee is just really, really hard for me. I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it, but I did enjoy it a little less than usual (it had a slightly harsher taste).
