Hey guys.

Wanting to save some money on atomisers, I decided to try out a rebuildable atomizer which I know very little about.
I ended up get an A7 from empire mods, as it is reported to work with bottom feeder mods.

So I screwed it into my Reo Grand, primed it with juice and fired it up, but I got a really yucky burnt taste. Not like a dry hit tastes, but a real burnt flavour.

So I tried putting more juice into the atomiser and tried again, with the same result.

The attie and wick was not dry at all and I cannot figure out why it tastes so bad lol.

So should I toss this a7 into the trash and forget about it? Or is there something I'm missing, or need to do before it will work right.

Cheers in advance for any light you guys can shine on the subject :)

Not sure about yours but I just got mine out of the mailbox and it looks nice but my wick was a little moist,I dry burned it and it smelled like machine oil and left the wick brownish, So I'm going to throw out the included wick and coil and wash the whole atty with hot water and dish soap to get out any remaining oil and make a new setup. From the reviews I've read this is a really nice atty, Maybe yours just needs to be washed and rebuilt? Good luck.

As mentioned, make sure to wash off any possible oil residue.

Also, make sure that the loops of the coil are snug to the wick. Any section of the wire that is too loose around the wick may get too hot, and burn the juice near it.

Along those lines, make sure that no two loops are too close together, or that can cause a hot spot. Ideally, each loop should be evenly spaced from the next.

Lastly, make sure that the coil sits fully in the path that the air takes through the atomizer. In the case of the A7, that's dead center over the little center air tube, maybe an 1/8" above it or so.

For LR coils, I'd use 32 or 34 gauge nichrome 80. I usually end up with 5 loops of 34 gauge to get around 2.1 ohms on a fairly large diameter wick. The 32 gauge would require probably 2-3 more than that to hit about the same resistance.

Personally, I like Aunt Lydia's Bamboo Crochet Thread, size 10, natural color for wicking material. I usually use around 8 threads for a wick. Can't dry burn it, but it usually lasts me at least a couple of weeks before I need to change it.

Rebuild it :) The stock A7 wick and coil I got was pretty trashy too. I ripped that out after trying to vape it for 5 mins. It's running on 100% cotton + 32g kanthal now.

+ here. i have a nova and some stardusts that i rebuild. they have 100% cotton wicks and 32 awg nicrome wrapped 7-8 times for a nice 2.2-2.4 ohms. tastes awesome with lots of vapor

Thank you. My problem was my loops were too close together and were touching. However this was with the stock wire premade in my A7. I made my own and no more problems :D

PS: Sorry for ressing the thread. I just realized it is 3 months old. However this information really helped me and prevented me form making a new thread. Thanks guys!
