Hmm. You guys have successfully educated and then confused me. Knowing how great you are I will venture out on a limb and ask this:

I'm running a Ni80 alien x3 28g/34g @.28 on a 20700 Ampking (Mooch approved).

Well under in amps, voltage should be near 48-50w. I'm content with flavor and vapor.

Should I ditch this and be better served with a single coil SS coil at .5?

Keep in mind I'm still navigating mech builds.
If you are content with flavor and vapor, and the ramp time is not annoying, why would you want to change it? I don't have a 20700 mod, so I'm not used to the battery. In general, though, the lower the "heat capacity" Steam Engine shows the faster the wire will reach temp. From there, all you need is to find a heat flux you like and set your builds to reach it with the wattage you're going to get from your mech.

I'm running a single coil, 26 gauge, 3mm ID, 7 wraps, .5ish ohms as my "heavy hitter" right now. instant vapor, no ramp up time. its a beautiful thing. lol.

simple builds work best on mechs. I'm sure there's some "fancier" builds out there that might work, but not worth the hassle IMO.

I tried and it’s takes forever to even get vapor then with it gets vape it’s not a lot at all I understand how to use it safely but seems like there something that not working
i may have made assumptions about the build. ref @suprtrkr 's question. what wire?

I don't think you need to "ditch" anything. All of the math and physics are academic at least at some level. All good to consider but the bottom line is are you enjoying the vape? If you see something written that intrigues you, give it a try. If you like it great. If you don't great!, as long as you enjoyed testing it. Perception is everything. Some people like the taste of only certain wires. Some folks want some minimum battery life. Some folks like it hot. Some like it cool. Some like a lot of fog. How much is a lot?

What about 24 Nichrome 7 double wraps I seen on youtube on best Cloud chasing set up

What is it you want to know about it?
If you don't have a way to accurately measure resistance & check for shorts before firing on a mechanical, stop using it. Put it away until you do.

Mechanical's have no saftey features other than the one between the users ears.
In the hands of the inexperienced they can become dangerous in a blink of an eye.

If you are not using Steam Engine as your coil calculator, start. In the "results" box on the right, look for the "heat capacity" entry. The lower that number on a particular coil set, the faster the ramp up time. Hint: faster ramp times come with smaller wire.

Start with simple single wire coils around 28 gauge and learn to wick and airflow, then you can work into more elaborate coils. Lots of vapor requires good wicking and lots of airflow. If you're trying to chase clouds with a mtl style inhale you'll never get there.

Simple.

Single wire.

No thicker than 26 gauge.

Single coil.

Use a multimeter or a reasonably accurate regulated mod to measure resistance.

Posters in this thread have repeatedly steered you towards this, and you're still trying to stuff too much metal into too small a space.

A single cell mech is just not going to get you where you want to go.

I agree, mostly. For basically all tube mechs and multi battery parallel mechs (and the one the OP is using) this is true. There are a few series multibattery mechs like the noisy cricket that can handle them. The problem there is you don’t have 4.2 > 3.6w you have 8.4>7.2w which changes up the math amongst other things. The noisy cricket is well named. It’s got its own set of hard-to-deal-with issues.

A few tube mechs will accept 2x18350 in series this puts them in the same high wattage territory but with under 1k ma to deal with so they go flat very fast and you have to carry around a pocket full of (these days) expensive hard to find batteries.
