A few months ago I used to find these types of articles funny because of the absurdity of them.
Now I see them and I just get ....... Because not only are they garbage propaganda with garbage agendas, but also because seemingly thousands of ignorant folks are spoon fed this garbage and then regurgitate it back to other ignorant folks and when it's all said and done? We Vapers are portrayed as demons and degenerates and willingly ignorant or self abusive and only out to harm the general public and their precious babies.

I am with you on this Fishee! And the other edge on that sword is that all that misinformation prevents current smokers from trying ecigs, which could potentially save their lives.

I too am angry. But mostly this makes me sad.

After the initial anger I too am saddened. I work at a gas station and have numerous opportunities to tell folks about the awesomeness of vaping and showing them my different set ups and letting them know that there is so much more than cigalikes. I feel great about those opportunities. But when a smoker tries telling me about all the research articles he/she just read on how vaping is just as or more dangerous than smoking so "I may as well keep smoking" it really breaks my heart.

Well, if it makes any of us feel any better (and this may seem o/t but in light of all the BAD media Vaping gets, I did see this as a ray of hope):

My 13 year old son had some friends over last weekend, same ages. Both of his friends are very, very bright and observant. I turned one of their moms over to Vaping and she's now on week three without a cig (Gold Star on forehead :) )

Anyway, the other kid knows I *used* to smoke....while they were here I showed him my vaper and I asked him if he knows what it is. I did this so he wouldn't be curious or alarmed that I was using it for some purpose other than what I am using it for.

He said, "that's an e-cig." I said I'd stopped smoking over a month ago with it and he gave me a high-five (his grandmother died from lung cancer and his mother, a friend of mine, really hated it that I smoked). I asked him if he knew anything about it. He said that what comes out is only water vapor and that it is harmless.

I was taken aback, TBH. I asked him how he knew this and he said he learned about it in health class! At SCHOOL! I asked if the class said anything negative about it, and he said no, that it was a part of curriculum talking about alternatives to drug use (cigarettes being the "drug," I suppose).

I thought this was at least a little sign of progress.

Sorry to go o/t but I hope it makes anyone who reads this have a little hope.

Previously, anger would be my response. I absolutely loathe stupidity. Now I just try to take this stuff in stride and calmly inform people that from the current research that I have read, I feel this is the safest form of nicotine delivery available. And if they seem more interested, I offer to point them to some of the research that I have read. Just try to plant some seeds in peoples minds. But yes, I feel you. It is depressing when many smokers are convinced that e-cigs are more harmful. Darwin's law comes to mind...

I don't think any smoker REALLY believes Vaping is "as safe as" or is "worse than" smoking. That's something they say out loud in order to try to convince themselves and anyone around that it is true. Not trying to bash on smokers -- I was there once, too, especially when I was young and going to live forever. It's mental Ju Jitsu, cognitive dissonance, etc.

I didn't read this article today. I felt like it would make me get out my "reserve nerve" juice. I can't understand how people can say some of what I read without realizing how stupid they sound. It is a shame that the benefits of vaping is not reported by the media like they do if a Kardashian passes gas. Didn't mean to rant. Sorry. It is just vaping has become a passion for me.

I did see one good paragraph in the story.

Electronic cigarettes have proven to be helpful for some individuals who have chosen to quit smoking. I encourage you to do your research on the product you choose to use and continue in your effort to fully quit. My mother is 79 years old and smoked for all of her adult life. When she decided to give up smoking, she used a rechargeable, electronic cigarette in the process and found it helpful.

It appears you have reached Stage 3 then...

What I hate is the language the media uses these days:

Poisonings are skyrocketing! (What does that mean, exactly?)
Poisonings have doubled! (From what?)
A 200% increase in poisonings (From what?)

If 1 person gets poisoned and then one more person gets poisoned there is a 100% increase in poisonings even though it's only 2 people. These numbers and statements they throw around to alarm people are absolutely meaningless.

I've come to the conclusion that in the media percentages = propaganda.

:facepalm::D:vapor:
Percentages are a valid and important part of research when used properly and in context.
The problem with the media is they ignore both they "properly" part and the "in context" part for the purposes of sensationalism.

The morphing of news into infotainment could be a sign of many things...
None of them are good.

And put them on a graph with time and the graph is flat :) ie. "no change" in the poisonings. lol.
