Heya everyone :) My name's Joe and it's nice to meet ya'all. I just picked up my first ecig 4 days ago and am at that place of alternating between ecig and regular cigs. Been smoking for almost 40 years and trying to make the change. Couple things I've noticed right away is that the ecig about wants to close my throat up....lol. It kind of hurts! It's not the throat burn....I actually like that. It's the heavy feeling I get in my lungs if I take anything other than a very tiny hit. My girlfriend says this will pass after a week or so but wanted to get some feedback. Also, has anyone noticed a heartburn issue with these things? My setup is a pretty basic bundle kit....kanger T3'D clearomizer, 1300 batt and USA eliquid 24mg. Any suggestions and feedback on getting used to vaping would be helpful. Thanks !!!

Welcome, Joe! I'm relatively new to the forum & new to vaping myself, but your issue sounds similar to what I experienced when I first started in the summer.

The nicotine level may just be too high; originally I had started at 24mg and, while I enjoyed the throat hit, it was just too heavy for me. I kept at it for about a week (finished the flavour) & then tried a totally different tobacco flavour at 18mg instead - it's been smoothe sailing from there. Consult & lean a little on your local e-juice vendor; if they want to continue doing business with you, they will help as much as possible to keep you happy. It could be the flavour, it could be the nicotine level, but you won't know until you give it an honest try.

Don't quit vaping; we're all behind you. Best of luck!

The PG ratio might be too high. Some people have reactions to PG causing them to have heartburn. The nic level might be too high for you also. Do you know the PG/VG ratio of your liquid?

Joe- Welcome to the forum and great decision to try and put down the analogs. You WILL get there. There are plenty of top-notch folks on these threads and we'll get you figured out soon.

I'm going to distill some of the info that's already been put up on your thread here:
1) Drink PLENTY of water. Vaping will dehydrate you a little bit and it also helps to keep your taste buds fresh for the next Vape.
2) Some folks have a PG sensitivity that can cause an irritation and/or drying of the upper respiratory tract (this is mostly where the water helps).
3) Adjust your ejuice PG/VG ratio as well as the type of juice you vape. Not all juices are created equal. I, myself, am very particular about what I will vape and I always error on the side of quality rather than anything else. I mean, we are effectively boiling some inert(ish) chemicals and then inhaling them. Surf the boards and you'll find out what most folks seem to like and feel safe with.
4) Your B&M store is there to sell you something and unfortunately they don't always have your best interest at heart. Be wary of them until you find one you trust. It may take a while. Or not....
5) Stick with it - AT YOUR OWN PACE. Most folks seem to get through an initial sensitivity and/or discomfort after a week or so and find that their "tolerance" improves. This is just your body adjusting to a new stimulus as well as you becoming more familiar with the technique.

This is your program and it's not a race.

If it takes you some time to figure out what is best for you and you have to smoke a few analogs until you find that perfect vape, so be it. Just don't give up on vaping and keep coming back to these forums for advice, stories, humor and news.

6) I haven't read anything about heartburn as a result of vaping, but I'm no medical DR. If it's persistent after a few weeks I would ask an actual professional... or more folks here on the boards.

7) Always ignore my spelling and grammar. It's atrocious and the spell checker changes all my mords abound (<- I did that one on purpose).

Welcome, my friend.
Nice choice on choosing better for yourself.
Stick with it.

I'll see you on the boards.

Congrats on starting to make the switch!

I found I was having trouble taking my hits on an ecig, too, until I read over the inhalation tips on these forums. The main difference that instantly helped me not have the throat burn, was that I was inhaling directly to my lungs in the beginning, but I found that by first bringing the smoke into my mouth, and then doing the actual inhale to my lungs when I was done taking the draw, completely stopped my throat from having that pain from inhaling. It's really a learning curve with vaping, because there's a different method to it than that of regular cigarettes. I'd highly recommend reading over the link someone shared on the previous page here. :) There's a short adjustment period, but it's so worth it, I promise.

Wishing you luck!
