Just ordered a fortune clone. Any thoughts on these mods???

What are the thoughts on this mech mod? Can't seem to find much about it via google. The small size and clean look really attracted me to it right away. Just hope I didn't jump the gun and buy a piece of junk. Had my heart set on the penny mod but then this popped up, looked a lil smaller and free shipping from only like 60 miles away so less wait time on the vape mail! Lol

yea i have one and it works great, make sure to separate the magnet attachments before you install the switch.

i also made an insulator out of a piece of Delrin that came with some magnets i ordered and sanded it down & tapped it at 5/16th.....also had to put a spacer under the vulcan adjustable pin to keep it stable, used the tip of a Jooze syringe and sanded it down to fit.

May I ask what the insulator is for? is this something that is required due to a design flaw or something? This will be my first mech mod so am trying to learn all I can about it.

I did read that both magnets come in it and one needs to be removed so was planning on that, but the insulator I have not heard about. Is this above or below the battery? Guess thinking was the magnets came with that black insulator around them and the battery's wrapper would act as an insulator for the sides.

My atty is a tobh v2 and has an adjustable 510 pin as well. Hoping I don't need to make a spacer as the main reasons I went with this was the simplicity, its size, and the clean look of it. Adding insulators and spacers kinda takes away from the simplistic design if it's required for it to function properly and safely.

Thanks for the reply too.

the insulator is used for insurance against the battery making contact with anything other than the extended pin when in hybrid mode.

here is an example this one i made for the stingray x, top left

some will say an insulator is not necessary but i like to have a safety factor just in case

you screw the hybrid adapter onto the atty and then screw the insulator onto the extended pin housing, you might have to sand it down a bit to insure the pin still extends so it can make contact with the battery

the reason i had to put a spacer under the 510 adjustable pin on the bottom of the Vulcan is because after some use it would move back inward and i wanted it to be stationary and not move. all atty's may not require this, i'm just sayin...if your going hybrid you want to be as safe as you can be....good luck to ya.

I guess you didn't notice it comes with no center pin.

If you put the wrong type of topper on it, you get an instant short on the 510 connector.

You need a topper with a clearly protruding center pin

Yes I did notice that. When I picked out my atty I went the the tobh v2 because of the adjustable pin that stuck quite far down from the bottom of the 510 connector to prevent that short. With that in mind I thought I'd be safe without additional insulators.

Are there known cases of shorting and or failure due to not having an extra insulator in there or wad that purely for peace of mind?

I recall a few months ago a thread about a short in that type of situation with a direct 510 thread going down to the top of the battery in a mod.
It is a rig-a-ma-jig sort of situation, and in my opinion, that sort of thing shouldn't even be sold.

A proper hybrid connector looks like this:

The separation between positive and negative is very clear.

With that 510 thread going directly to the battery, the separation is usually a hairline, and safety is totally dependent on the user knowing the deficiency in design

Would using a flat top battery cause any issues in a mod like this as compared to a normal non hybrid style?

Has anyone checked the voltage drop of these hybrids compared to a normal mech mod?

Would the top cap to another mod be ok to use on the Fortune mod as long as the threads are ok?

Sorry for all the dumb questions but it seems the search function brings up so many unrelated threads when trying to search for something specific like that.

1: Of course; get any top cap that has the same threading.

2: I've found using google is the better way to search ecf than using ecf itself
