Hey folks
I just took the first step. I got the sample nic from nude nicotine. 15ml of 100mg at 50/50. I ordered the dx 12 flavor sampler from the perfumers apprentice. Then I went to wizard labs and got 120 each of pg and vg along with some syringes and blunt needles.
How'd I do? Am I missing anything? Seems like a pretty good starter set. I figured I'd post because there are going to be a lot of people looking for a nice starter set.
Thanks

I think that will do well for a start. You can use old juice bottles to mix in at first. Once you get a few under your belt, you will have a better idea of what else you need. Without know what mg/ml you use I don't have any idea how far your 15 ml will go, but I'm sure you will order more shortly. Don't be disappointed if your first mixes don't turn out awesome and remember that steeping often makes them better :)

As I newbie last year, I learned the hardway, make sure you purchase several syringes/needles. Not all syringes are created equal. I end up purchasing 5 of each, 1ml, 3ml, 5ml, 10ml. Dedicate one syringe to nicotine only. Make sure only needle is inserted, nicotine removes details on syringe.

The black rubber in syringes have a tendency to pop off, while suckin up vg occasionally, now I just pour into 5ml syringe.

Flavors vary, from my short experience, I test each flavor solo at 2%, work up. Have fun diy

For dealing with VG, it makes it easier to syringe if you warm it up some. For my big ADVs I just pour VG into a marked bottle (close enough for me). For making smaller mixes I pour some VG into a squirt bottle and sit it in warm water for a while. I then squirt the VG into the top of a syringe to the correct measure and then insert the plunger to push it into my bottle.

Putting a piece of clear tape over the numbers/lines on the syringes will protect them from rubbing off. I do it to all my syringes before I start using them. Works a treat!

Yup, I've got plenty of 30 ml bottles and 3 100 ones. I usually vape 6 mg, but I'm thinking all make 5 mg. Easy math. I was thinking of making 20 ml of each of the 12 favors At 50/50. Then I'm planing on mixing some of those together in maybe 5 ml testers.
20 ml is a bit too much, IMO, might consider 5 or 3 ml testers for every mix until you like them.

Taping over the plastic/ink gradations on the syringe is a good idea. Clear varnish/polyurethane etc. or clear nail polish has an advantage of not peeling off (repeated washing's) like some clear tapes.
Could check out: Syringes and Needles | Oral Syringes They most always have (free shipping once a week) special sales/promos every day. You will have to sign up for their emails to receive the notifications.
Suggest you read up on steeping (1-2 wks min. to 4-5 or more).

I'm a syringe guy. I have about 5-10 of each. Banana is pretty corrosive to the inside of a syringe, I have found, so I ended up dedicating two syringes just for that flavor.

I got on Amazon and got plenty of 5ml bottles for recipe testing. I also got 10ml, 30ml, and 50ml plastic bottles. I bought 2 liters of 100mg nic and realized that it is stored in the freezer and continuously opening it is not good. So, back to Amazon and I bought glass bottles; 125ml & 250ml. I only vape 1.5mg now and I just filled a 30ml glass bottle for immediate use. It is not near empty yet.

I wash my hands before and after, just in case. I run my bottles, syringes, glass cylinders, etc. under hot water.

As to flavors, I have about 75 now. Seems like their are a ton of creams and then each brand has a version of other flavors. I am getting to the point of knowing what my recipes use a lot, so I will be ordering LARGE bottles of those flavors. I do have to say that the same flavor, from different brands, can be very different. If you don't follow someone else's super-rated recipe, brand-wise, don't expect to get close. Big thing to remember is that your taste buds are not like anyone elses.

I am meticulous about being exact on a 5ml test recipe. If I am off in my percents and/or 10th of percents with a 5ml bottle, it will only be magnified when I finally make a 50ml bottle.

I gotta say that the FDA is getting involved in regulating vaping stuff, whatever that ends up being. But, I suspect that, as a minimum, nicotine will be. If you think you will be into DIY, I would get plenty.

Good luck and have fun!

I started With syringes and then switched to mixing by weight and would never go back.
+1 on mixing by weight. Much more accurate and easy to scale tests to recipes.

Download a good recipe calculator for your test recipes and flavor notes. I highly recommend the "new calculator to try" found in this forum a couple of posts up from yours.
