Just saying hi, and looking to be pointed in the right direction!

Hi to you all,

Wow such a wealth of information here. I've seen some awesome setups here. It's rare to see such a helpful community on the net these days. It seems that everyone here is willing to share their knowledge and help to guide the newbies like me in the right direction, and lord knows i need it!

Was at my local cafe the other day and saw a guy vaping, intersted and intrigued I asked some questions and here I am!

I'm currently smoking a pack of 8mg 20's per day during the week and around 4 to 5 packs when I'm out drinking on the weekend,so that's around 9 to 10 packs a week and @ $17 a packet (ciggies are expensive in Australia) that's over $600 per month. I guess I'm sick of paying someone money to slowly kill me over a long period of time. I have to say thanks to that guy at the cafe otherwise I wouldn't be be writing this here thread, so cheers to you mate.

After reading and searching this forum I am still unsure as to what to purchase.
  • I'm initially willing to invest $400 to $600 on startup kits, hardware, cartos etc not including juice (hell that's still less than what it costs me to smoke a month)
  • I don't want anything that looks like a cigarette. I want to get away from those dam things
  • I'm not too self conscious about the size of the PV in public within reason
  • I'm leaning towards a tank that I can refill myself and that is clear so I can see how much juice I have left
  • 1 smaller or short stumpy PV that I can take out drinking with me and on the plane ( I travel a lot)

I guess I'm open to all suggestions here. I am able to stretch the initial budget a little further if need be but I'm sure that I will be well on my way to vaping with what I have allowed. I'm still coming to terms with all the lingo and abbreviations.

I look forward to becoming an active member on this forum and when I have more knowledge on this subject giving back and contributing. With so much information I'm a little lost, dazed and confused and look forward to your replies

First welcome to the forums, and congrats on taking up vaping. I travel a good deal myself, though never down to where you are, but I use an eGo-C w/ Vision tanks. That covers what you're essentially looking for. I don't think it will cost you near what you spend now.

As a step up from that, I'd recommend researching Lava Tubes or any of the kits here:
Buy Lava Tube | Get Lava Tubes | Find LavaTubes Carry Case and Accessories

Hang tight and others are sure to chime in with their thoughts.

Best,
Steve

Since money isn't an issue, I'd strongly recommend the Provari.
Here is a company right in Austrailia that sells them...

Provape Products - Vapebar

As far as out and about, they also have this....

GLV2 Mini 3.7v - Vapebar

I wouldn't get the regular size, as it holds 2 batteries. NOT a good thing.
This particular site also sells tanks.

FYI, you can NOT vape on a plane. You can carry your stuff in a carry on bag, but you can't vape.

Welcome to ECF!

Welcome to ECF :)

With your budget you should be able to set yourself up for a few months of worry free vaping.

I can't help you on the kits will leave that to the experts ;) Just wanted to advise you that you can import nicotine juice for personnel supply into Australia, you can't buy any there :(

I order from the USA and have no problems getting in 2 x 120ml bottles at a time. (Done that way to get the best postage rates to New Zealand). Limit is 3 months supply at a time, according to customs.

So the advice I wanted to give you was stock up with a lot of juice. You can get mixes with nicotine juice in them from overseas or import the nicotine juice and make your own mixes. There are a few good vendors in Australia that sell the mixes with out nicotine in them ready for you to add your own nicotine juice.

Good luck hope everything works out for you :)

I really hope your joking and wouldn't break the law and vape on the plane. Its actions like that, that hurt all of us in the vaping community. I use nicotine gum when I fly. Granted its not nearly as satisfying as vaping but its alot cheaper then the huge fine you will get stuck with if you get caught breaking the law.

A fine is the least of a person's worries. Deliberately forcing a plane to land due to FAA violations such as setting off the in-cabin (on some planes) or restroom smoke detectors (vape will do it) leads directly to arrest. If those alarms go off, all hell breaks loose. Plus there's the chance that you will be banned from domestic and international flight travel.

It has nothing to do with the vape community or a group of people getting a bad rap, a stunt like that is just dangerous. Regardless, it was a joke. An obvious one I thought, with a touch of dark humor. Guess I was wrong.

Great information there, I wasn't aware of the restriction. Does limit on nicotine apply to the pre-mixed batches? like 4 x 30ml bottles of a given vendor's product?

Start day one with a good bottom feeder, like a Reo Grand or a Bogger Box (if prefer wood instead of metal). I say this because it makes life simple and those models work great. No trying tank systems or carrying around a bunch of cartomizers/clearomizers, chargers and liquids, until you find a combo that works for you. With a bottom feeder, just buy a atomizer from avidvapor and extra set of batteries/charger, and some spare empty bottles and you are set. This is an advanced setup and will take longer to learn, but once you do you will be happy. They are american made and priced right...do a you tube search for bottom feeder, reo grand, and/or bogger box, learn what they are about and if its for you. Its worse when you have money to spend because I tired everything to find that perfect vape, until I really did when I bought my VV Bogger Box. I haven't touched my other mods since. A bottom feeder will save money in long run because there are no tank systems and/or cartomizers (10 a month I was) to buy. Unless cleaned(a pain), each liquid you try should have its own carto or flavors will mix, and as a noob you will be trying lots of flavors.

IF not a bottom feeder, buy something inexpensive like an eGo-T with USB passthrough for easy charging, and some Boge Low Resistance cartomizers. Learn the condom method for filling them. Then if you enjoy vaping goto an expensive setup. If you have your mind set, there is no doubt you will enjoy, this is why I recommend the bottom feeder. Beware of cheaper bottom feeders, they may leak or not work as well in general. If you decide on eGo beware of cheap copies, there are many out there, try and buy genuine Joye Tech. Cheap crap is no fun.

My honest opinions only. Don't forget the drip tips. BTW bottom feeders provide all that extra flavor of dripping without the pain of dripping, but yet can be dripped.

Welcome. What I use is an ego twist with either Boge carts or ego mega dual coil. Add to that an option for provari and I have an option to stay a little more discreet or bring the big gun.

You'll read a lot of options and pick the one right for you. My recommendation would be to read and read others opinions on each. I just didn't want to spend $130 one one item and knowingly end up spending even more on provari so I shot right up. Nice combo between the two.

The limit is whatever customs decides is the limit. I have imported 240 mls at a time with no problem but who knows with customs they are a law unto themselves. Most vendors realise the problem and label the goods as PG liquid with no mention of the nicotine.

Hope you find what makes vaping the best for you. If your looking for a electronic cig thats looks like a cigarette then I'll lett others offer excellent advice. You seem to have the $$ to buy a hi-end device which may save you money in the long run but I'd advise against it unless you KNOW vaping is for you. Again the best of luck to you and welcome to the ECF family.

Hi Kay, I was looking at these models that you recommended but wasn't really sure if they were a good option for a newbie. Thanks for the company link also will give then a call tomorrow to rack their brain a little also.

Cheers

Thanks for the heads up Yves. My cousin works for customs here in Australia so will ask him if he knows about any limits.
Very handy to know this because I was going to spend a fair bit on juice to find flavors that I like to vape.

Cheers

This is good to know I was under the assumption that the rule only applied to a handful of airlines. You just gave me a "get out of jail card" Kay

Welcome to the forum. I've been vaping for a month so I'll let you know what I started with. I've got a kgo and recently purchased a vision clearomizer. Great TH with this setup!

For juice you might want to try ecblend and get a bunch of samples. For a great tobacco flavor I like their New Red Box.

Cheers Bangtango will look it up
