So I just started vaping a few months ago. I did a bunch of ECF reading, and people raved about the base that comes on the Aerotank.

I went ahead and got one for every one of my Protanks; 5 in total.

I'm browsing the other day, and apparently I must have been reading old threads, because the newer base has been out for some time now.

I'm seeing two different newer versions and am wondering which one is the latest and greatest.

I currently have 5 of these:

This is a newer version that I have seen.

I have also seen this one, which the seller claims in the latest and greatest.

Maybe #2 and #3 are the same, just a different angle, but I'm not sure.

Regardless, are these newer versions better than the one I already have? I don't mind spending a few bucks on stuff that I use every day. I keep my ring about halfway up, so I don't have problems with the ring getting stuck open or closed. However, I probably wouldn't want to buy 5 of them again. They look nicer, but I wouldn't upgrade just for looks. If they do work better I would consider it though. They sell for about $8.50 a piece, or $7 each if you buy 4 of them.

I'm seeing two different newer versions and am wondering which one is the latest and greatest.

The first you show came out with the original Aerotank. It has a chrome finish which doesn't really match the Aerotank, but looks fine with Protanks. Some people had trouble with the ring sticking at the limits, and they could make a whistle depends on your setting.

The second came out with the Aerotank V2. Looks much better with Aerotank as it is stainless steel, and it doesn't stick or whistle. The adjustment ring is tighter than the Mega version which is kinda loose. It is a couple of mm taller than the first version. I upgraded all my Version 1 Aerotanks to this. This is still what you will receive if you order an Aerotank V2.

The third one you show is in the style of the Aerotank Giant and the Genie tanks. I have not handled one yet so I can't comment on the finish or performance. As far as I know they seem to be planning to release it with the Emow Mega kit (which comes with an Aerotank sized clearomizer, but with a more enclosed design). They have not switched over regular Aerotanks to that design yet.

Regardless, are these newer versions better than the one I already have?

Unless you have a sticking ring or annoying whistle, I would stay with the first version as they will look better with your Protanks, but any of them should work and will be a huge improvement over no airflow control.

I have a few of the older versions. I had to throw one away because it shorted out. Somebody here said he tore one apart and found the springs inside were corroded. I’ve got a couple of the newer ones ordered, but I’m still planning to use the older ones.

BTW… welcome to ECF. It’s always nice to see somebody else from VA here.

I have the Original and the V2. They work a bit different but both work well. If I had to say I would pick the v2 but by a very small margin. I would say it's not worth trading in your old ones as long as you are happy with them. Fasttech has the new genitank for under 15$ if you want to try out the latest version. Happy vaping

Thanks for the replies guys.

-Worksforme, There are vaping stores opening at an alarming rate in Northern VA. I think 3 of them opened in like a 2 month span, it's been crazy. I'll get juice in a pinch, but brick and mortars around here have extremely high markups on most things. I'm willing to support local business, but not when they are charging double or triple of what I can get online. Vaping is growing in popularity around here, but still at the point where older people ask "what the heck is that thing."

Anyways, the reason why I'm sticking to PT2's is because they take single coils without any modification. I hope they don't phase them out any time soon, because I've never tried a dual coil before, and it took enough practice to get decent at rebuilding singles. So no PT3, Aerotank, or Genitank for me.

The pace of how quickly these new tanks are coming out is pretty annoying. I like carrying 3-4 tanks on me at a time, so I don't like having to buy everything 4 times.

I know a friend of mine leaves his draw wide open. Is that the norm around here? I seem to be in the minority who keep their draws in the middle or nearly closed. Also, how easily does the V2 turn? I had to switch to a clicking twist battery for my backup because the original twists would wind in my pocket. Nearly impossible to see in the dark. If the ring moves on the V1, it'll still work. Is that true with the v2? The hole will just adjust?

I find the V2 stays put in my pocket but the V1 sometimes spins. I use PT2 single coils in all my Kanger tanks including my Mega. No modifications needed to any of them. You can't use the dual coils in the older tanks but you can use the older coils in the new tanks. Works for me:) hope this helps.

A lot of new ones have opened up in the Hampton Roads area too. Unfortunately, if the FDA gets it’s way, most of them will be regulated out of business in a few years. I’ve been stocking up on Protank stuff, DIY supplies and Provarii.

You would think that getting sales tax revenue from a new market would be good enough for the government, but I guess it goes hand in hand. An industry that brings in big taxes and that a large portion of the population needs (gasoline, tobacco / tobacco substitutes) needs to bring the government their share. As smokers convert to alternatives, the government loses out on money they counted on with traditional tobacco.

I read on multiple threads that if you put a single coil in the newer tanks, you need 2 rubber cups, one points in the opposite direction. I would try some of the newer stuff if It didn't require more expensive coils, more power, and more juice usage.

There's a lot more going on with FDA regulations than just taxes. You should check out the FDA Regulations forum if you haven't already.

I don't add anything to the coils. Just put them in same as the dual coils. Plug and play. I am vaping on one right now in my Mega and a PT3 with the V2 airflow base.

Yep. I second that. I have used genuine single coil kangers in Aerotanks without any modification. No problems.

Discount Vapers sells V2 for $5.29 a piece. If you want to switch I would go there first.

I'm showing $5.99 now, and it's sold out anyways. Also, shipping is $2.67, so it's about the same as the 2 for 15 shipped on ebay.

Just debating on whether I should buy a 5th aero base or if I should just go ahead and put it towards an EHpro Kayfun clone. Not quite ready for rebuildables yet, but will soon come.

I drilled out my airflow adapters out and been happy with them until one of them separated and once separated they will always slowly come apart. I just put the adapter between a couple sockets and tap the adapter back together with a small hammer with every time I have to remove it off the atty to clean. It might be a PIA but those airflow adapters on a protank work great.
